Alex and i woke up early to catch the bus into shepards bush to pick up some sleeping mats and drikns for the weekend, after that we set off from east acton into the london equivelent of spencer stree train station for our hour train ride to banbury. once a banbury we waited in line with hundreds of others for the 'happy bus' to northhamptonshire areodrome for the gatecrasher festival. the whole trip took us about4 hours but once we got there we quickly got in the mood as we walked in the gates. We picked up our free tents on the way in (we pre-purcheced a package that included a tent) then tried to find some of our friends who drove in with all the heavy stuff (beer!) it took a fair while as the reception was terible but it was worth it as they had resereved a large area so we could send up all 10 tents in the same spot. We eventually figured out how to set up the tents n cracked open afew beers n the festivites began. We decided the djs we wanted to see on the first day, n left the camping grounds to go
see the first dj.
We first went to the closest tent, the gatecrasher tent where we saw a few minutes of mario Picotto's set which was ok, but then moved on to a smaller tent to see Digitalism. They were pretty mad, but most of us thought it would be a good idea to get a good spot for prodigy so we left early. Prodigy ripped it up on the main stage, sick as always, lost half the group though, so mainly it was me, alex, lach, damo and Tanya. After Prodigy we made it back to the Gatecrasher tent to see Paul Van Dyk. I wasnt really into his music before this event, but I actually thought He was one of the stand out acts. After Paul Van dyk we saw some no name dj for a bit and walked back to the tent where we attempted to get some shut eye. Difficult to do at 3.30am when there are like some 30000 people still partying just 100 metres away...
we woke up early morning to the tent shaking and terential rain. we all chatted thru the walls of the tents for a few hours, lach
me
waiting for the prodogy to come on stage and damo were sharing the tent next to us... they definatly kept us amused as the invented their own drinking game with the little tools they had inside their tent. They eventually called it the penny game... very inventive i know! it involved naughts and crosses, rock paper scisors and hangman with the flip of two coins determining which game they played and drinking when you lost or guessed what the coins came up wrongly damo came out of this better as lach really sucks at naughts and crosses and rock paper scissors... it kept hem amused for several hours anyway! once the rain cleared we got everything together for the nights festivites n the gang headed in for me early sets. Al and I went in a little later to meet up with people, we went in to the Gatecrasher tent again and caught Chicane which were really good, but it was when we went to the main stage for Chemical Bros that we learned that the stage had been flooded thanks to the rain and all acts had been cancelled. Also, another tent had been closed down so alot of acts were also cancelled or redirected to other
tents. We couldn't find the group so Al and I went back to the camp ground to wait for them, and also to wait for Paul Oakenfelds set. Whilst at the campsite we met up with Tanya and Elyse, and we all went to see Oakenfeld who turned out to be pretty average. He seemed more interested with chatting with some guy behind the dj booth than mixing some music so we all left haflway through he set. We met up with lach and ryan, and went to see another Dj set, but both of them were pretty worse for wear and we decided to leave the and head back the campsite around 2.30. With all the cancellations and the weather being crap, Sunday wasnt really a standout... but the weekend was alot of fun overall...
The trip home was a very quiet one... we were woken up by some random guy opening all of our tents to tell us we had to be off the campsite by midday. we waited for the rain to stop n packed up our tents n trugged thru the mud to the bus to get home.
showers were in high demand once
we arrived home... a much deserved pizza and movie night followed...
