I think that porridge with banana and Maple syrup may become my new favourite breakfast dish as I had it again this morning. After that I was catching up on emails and FaceBook posts in my room when I was startled by what sounded like a Racoon running amok in the shower. Not that I'm actually very familiar with the sound one would make in such circumstances, but I've seen YouTube videos of them getting into places they shouldn't, and they seem to be excitable creatures, and the analogy jumped into my mind. Cautious investigation revealed however, the window cleaner attacking the thin Victorian glass with a stiff bristle brush! Order restored I ventured out to start the day. I quite often listen to the Radio 4 comedy quiz programme 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue', ... read more

Without the need to find a new parking space at 9am meant that this morning was a more leisurely affair, which is just as well because, unusually for me, I slept in in till 8.30am! Yesterday's large breakfast had been a bit overfacing, so this morning, after cereals, I just had a 'Queens Hotel bagel' - a toasted bagel filled with a suasage patty smothered in cheese, bacon, fried egg and all dressed with sweet chilli jam. Around 10am I sauntered out and after retrieving the car, drove a couple of miles to the Fairhaven sandhills, parking not far from the house in which George Formby lived for many years until his death in 1961. There is a blue plaque on the gatestone explaining this. Dressing up warmly in my big coat I took a wander ... read more

Today is a sort of 'slow news day' which probably sums up most days in Lytham St Annes (LSA). Breakfast turned out to be surprisingly good with plenty of choices on the menu. I started with Banana and Maple Syrup porridge and followed it up with the full English - bacon (two rashers) fried eggs (two) black pudding, sausage, tomato, mushrooms, baked beans and fried bread. All washed down with orange juice and tea. A jolly good start to the day which meant I didn't need topping up until late in the afternoon. Free car parking is at a premium in LSA. I had parked on the visitors car park across the road from my hotel, which is free between 6pm and 9am, but that meant I either had to pay from 9am or move it. ... read more

For quite a number of years now, my mantra has been 'when was the last time you did something for the first time?', probably born out of an increasing realisation of advancing years, but also from the understanding that as a youngster, most experiences were 'for the first time', but with age comes a foreshortening of horizons, and there are far fewer 'new experiences'. However, an unexpected set of circumstances have contrived to ensure that I am not missing out on a 'new experience', that is, taking a holiday in December! Now this won't be anything unusual for many people, but possibly their winter holidays involve an exotic sun-soaked location or the glittering slopes and après-ski delights of Klosters or Bad-Zermat. For me, however, it is the wind-blown mudflats of Lytham St Annes. But at least ... read more

Hi there We awoke and had a hearty breakfast then Davey came and picked us up. he took us to Blackpool and showed us the sights and history of Blackpool, we went up the tower and did some shopping, it was too cold and windy to go on the ferris wheel or rollercoaster so we just did a drive around. went back to the pub were Fiona's Mum and Dad were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, it was nice to meet them all. We went out for steak with Dave and Fiona it was a great night such a shame that it was only 1 day... I now have two daughters that love Chocky Pom. Our motorhome wheels are rolling again, it was lovely to get into our warm, cosy van and start on the UK speed tour! Woolly says – it was great to get in and find my friends, Spot and Hodge waiting for me, I had so much to tell them but they fell asleep! Our home on wheels (still nameless!), is an Autotrail Cheyenne, 6 berth (we know this is big for two adults and a mammoth but we wanted to extra space so that we can relax in comfort. It has a separate bathroom and a full cooker (very useful if we ever get round to using it all), there is also a large rear garage for our bikes, stores and the other three million things I need to carry round with me, it’s also quite ... read more
