Hello all! Alyssa and I are doing well in London. We've now got a place of our own, well sort of. We live in a house-share, which is a flat of our own (a room: bed, closet, fridge, desk, tv) and share 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. The place is nice, it's located in western London, in the North Kennsington/Notting Hill area, yeah...just like the movie. It's in a little cottage type house, made of stone, ceramic, roof, and a little fenced in garden, oh...how cute. So now we're in the process of trying to find jobs. It's proven to be a bit difficult this time of year, but we're working hard at it. Yesterday we walked around all afternoon and handed out our CV's (resume) to just about every retail store we could find that ... read more

Hi everyone! Tom and I are staying in tonight since last night was pretty crazy, so I thought it would be nice to start the Blog. We've been in London for a few days now and are pretty well accustomed to how things work around here. The tube system is so simple and efficient. Everything is super expensive, which is the biggest downfall of this city, but so far we're liking it a lot and I think we're going to stay here for the next 2 1/2 months. It's nice being here not on such a strict time limit, like we have been on all of our other trips abroad. We've seen Big Ben and Parliament, walked around the big shopping areas and Piccadilly Square, which is the "Times Square" of London. We also set up ... read more

what a week... and unfortunately mostly not nice :( last thursday jaya and suhi started on their rabies injections (of which we need 3... and have to pay for!) when suhi was going to work she felt so unwell that she had to go back home and her parents had to take her straight to A&E... because she had an allergic reaction to the injection. It was very very bad reaction and it scared the hell out of everyone. Fortunately she only had to stay for one night and she is almost fully recovered now but it does mean that she cannot have any more of those injections obviously. So me and jaya will have to keep an extra close eye out for rabid monkeys and dogs and kick them out of suhi’s way! On the ... read more

Well thats it then, back in Blighty. Cor blimey govnor that holiday went quick. 14 weeks, 8 countries, 14 airports, 40 odd hotels and guesthouses, countless bottles of water (environmentally unsound i know), taxis, tuk tuks, rickshaws, bikes, hundreds of I wonder what that tastes like, hmm sweet. Thousands of photos and look at thats and we are back in the London and the cold, safe and sound. Dubai gave a slight warning of the weather to come as it dipped to around 15 degrees and on a trip out to the desert it got even colder, but it still came as a shock. Overall it was a brilliant experience which we would like to repeat asap. Hi All, Well its that time of year again and the crowds in Oxford Street are enough to give anyone heart failure. I have been working hard and shopping hard and of course attending the odd party or 2 or 3. I had a lazy day of strolling through old london town today as the sun was out and it made for great pics. I also went to see the theatre show Romeo and Juliet and had a great time in the beautiful Playhouse Theatre. We are planning a big Chrissie lunch/dinner at Tania, Carlos and Jesses' place. There will be more food that we know what to do with, our mothers taught us well! I hope you all enjoy the pics as much as I did taking them. Love Tania P.S. Mum I promise I ... read more

there is exactly 1 month to go now... first we should introduce our trio as all you reading this might not know all of us! we all met at seven kings school. jaya and suhi have known each from year 7 and manjit joined them in the sixth form of the same school- so at least one good thing came out of that place!! we have been friends ever since even though we all went to different unis and studied very different subjects… so in alphabetical order is some more detailed info: jaya- I'm not sure who i'm writing this or addressing it to; is this the world? (unlikely), our relatives? (maybe), or just the three of us? (definitely). Not sure what to write, have been told that thinking about an introduction for a weblog for ... read more

It’s arise time. Television here is terrible. Half the channels are foreign language - either Chinese or French. The other half are BBC something or another. There are no good news or sitcoms on. We plan our day: see Harrods and Buckingham palace and relax/get acquainted. Both Harrods and Buckingham Palace are within walking distance of the Park Tower. Harrods at Knightsbridge was the first stop. This department store reminds me very much of Marshall Fields in Chicago. It’s a local store with literally everything. You can come here for your dry cleaning, fine jewelry, fresh foods and fruits, Prada/Gucci bags, electronics, men’s and women’s ware, artwork, musical instruments and everything in between. They have multiple restaurants inside. The escalator “shaft” is themed after Egyptians. (666-672) I find a travel book that says the Changing of ... read more

Boarded an United Airlines jet to Washington Dulles (IAD). Arrived on-time (546 - sunrise in-route to IAD) and met mom. Traffic to Dulles, said mom, was terrible. She made the international flight to London Heathrow (LHR) with just 20 minutes to spare! The flight to LHR departs on-time. Service onboard is fabulous. Breakfast consists of yogurt, a croissant, and french toast filled with maple cream and oranges. Lunch/dinner starts with a salad and nuts. Filet is served with potatoes and asparagus. Due to fog and low ceilings we circled the field for a half-hour. Still we arrive into Heathrow twenty minutes early. Clearing customs was a breeze. ATMs are as easy here to use as in the USA. I extract £100 at the exchange rate of $1.9426 to £1 pound. (eg it costs $194 to extract ... read more
