Tania, Debbie and I decided it was time we had an old fashioned girly weekend in Debbie's home borough of Essex! For those of you not familiar with the reputation of the area it is equivalent to partying in Elizabeth or Salisbury. We had a great time and a not so good hangover the next day. Mental Note:- never have a hangover when you have a 1.5hr bus, train and tube ride ahead of you. I have been working for an agency just off of Oxford St and the shopping at lunch time is sending me broke. We have been planning our multicultural xmas dinner over here and I have the pleasure of cooking a gingerbread house. Not sure about NYE yet its just too early. The job front is looking good but more on that ... read more

i was awakened by a call from my sister vanie, who was enthusiastically shouting something to me. it took a while before i realized that TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! i thanked her for calling and she apologized when it dawned on her that we are already in london time (oohh how great does that sound!) and it was about four in the morning here. darwin greeted me a sleepy happy birthday after the call and was disappointed that vanie beat him to it. this is the first time i'm spending it as mrs lim (i'm still and will remain an olfindo, by the way. darwin thinks it's cool that i'm keeping my name) and it feels deliriously weird and wonderful. we went back to sleep and an hour after, we were roused by the alarm clock. ... read more

two days after the wedding, darwin and i boarded the plane to singapore where we'd be staying for a day before high-tailing it off to europe. we have so much things from manila to unpack, mostly wedding stuffs and some provisions we bought from rustan's to use up the gift certificate we got from our ninang. then we have to pack the clothes we need for our honeymoon trip - cold wears for england, germany and france, summer clothes for italy and all the things in between. we had so much trouble with the manila immigration officers mostly because of excess baggage and i threw a fuming fit with the guard who wouldn't let us hand-carry the wedding portrait despite the plastic frame. but all's we... read more

Hi all, well, this is a new idea that has been brought to my attention from a fellow traveller at work. She's on her way to India, and I'm here at work trying to remember all of the things I've done so far, so I can let you know! Since this is my first entry, I'll keep it short - but just to let you all know that I'm having the BEST time, am trying to get to as many places as possible, in what seems as little time as possible :) Hope everyone is doing well and will drop you another line shortly! Cheers Span... read more

OK, OK People...I get it you want more pictures! Here a are a few more from my wandering adventures around this big city. I am making new friends pretty quick as all the aussies, saffas and NZ are pretty nice and welcoming. Afterall we have all done the samething leaving our homes behind. Went to a party in North London on Friday night. It was at the home of a millionaire guy that one of the aussie girls met! Nice place let me tell you. Did the National Gallery and British Museum and found myself talking to Mum all the time... no wonder I was getting these stupid looks from the tourists. I have to say that I have a few new fav artists now that I been up close and personal, but da vinci is ... read more

Hi Guys, I have finally got over my jet lag...I think! I am settling in ok. I am staying with a few mates in Clapham Common which is South of the City. I have been walking a lot and of course did the touristy things that one does, Picadilly, Buckingham etc. It is getting pretty cold but I have avoided the rain thus far. I am currently looking for a place to live and had a job interview today. It went really well and the recruitment company themselves (Hudson) offered me a position with them. I have the weekend to consider it which is funny caus I have interviews with 2 more recruiters next week. We celebrate Guyfawks day tomorrow and my mates have invited me to a party hosted by some rich chick. Her dad ... read more

It is admirable how after years of struggle, personal sacrifice and lots of arm chair strategy, the British Empire did succeed in becoming the strongest imperialist nation in the world. And when they did give up their claim over their ‘protectorates’ they left a mark in those countries forever - they left behind a judicial system, great infrastructure, tons of ideas for story -telling in years to come and they left behind - English. In no other nation, as in India has English succeeded to such an extent. Obviously it has - which is why half of the US is getting ‘Bangalored’ and Nat West goes out of its way to advertise ‘UK call centres’. But all Indians may well be living in a strange world of naiveté. For do we really know the language? Or ... read more

It was june 2003 and Asia was having Sars outbraek and the whole economy took a hit. You might be thinking what has Sars and economy got to do with a travel blog right? well SIA offered tickets to UK at half the normal price and that was S$800 and since i had an uncle living in Croydon, England, i thought why not pay him a visit as well. So armed with the ticket toghether with my cousin Sultan and fren Jahir we flew to London Heaththrow Airport on 2nd June 2003. The flight took almost 14 hrs and it was most uncomfortable in the economy class and i had running nose due to lack of smoke. Finally arrived in Heathrow Airport, and it was no way comparable to our modern and efficient Changi International Airport. ... read more
