Hello Folk's, This is our first blog. So with one week left and an abundance of alcohol and inflatable animals as decoration our leaving party was ready. All our friends and family turned up to suitibly give us the "be carefull" and "come back in one piece" warnings whist also dancing like a pissed John Travolta to Saturday Night Fever, it was beautiful. It was a night of first's; with my 15 year old brother Tom's first drunken experience, suprisingly composed for his first piss up?! Also the first ever recorded dance off, in that village hall, between a 26 year old man (me) and a 6 year old girl (the camera busted during the previous dance off between us). Overall, as I think is pretty obvious in the pictures the party was a success thanks ... read more

Wednesday 27th May As we prepare for England,Grahame is pickpocketed!! Another beautifully fine day dawned and we prepared for the flights to Stanstead ,London via Dusseldorf with Air Berlin with a departure just before 1pm.We thought we should give ourselves 4 hours to walk to the station to pick up the #13 bus to the airport and then do the checkin etc at the airport. We planned on three quarters of an hour to walk to the station which was a straightforward flat pavement all the way. Our stay at the Acme Hotel has been a very good one with excellent facilities in contrast to the hostel in Moscow, although to be fair, the experience of living amongst the locals in Moscow was certainly worth it all. The local people we have interacted with in St Petersburg, particularly the ... read more

2nd Briefing Weekend Our second meeting as Team Russia was in Chingford, Essex from the 3rd - 5th April. This was our opportunity to take our planning a lot further and make solid plans. We now each have our own training sessions to plan, badges to sell and fundraising to continue with. Although we still don't have much information from Russia, we are going ahead and making plans which can be altered accordingly if need be. So far we have 3 possible destinations where we will be camping for sometime. These are all in Southern Siberia - which apparently is suprisingly warm in the summer! Our training sessions will be on the following topics: Recruitment, Retention and PR (Anne and Rachel) Leadership, Development and Training (Jill and Susannah) and Healthy Lifestyles, Songs, Icebreakers and Games ... read more

As we were settling into to our plush Air Asia X seats eagerly awaiting our take-off the captain came over the PA with all the usual pre-flight info: names of crew, expected altitude, weather and wind (strong head-wind) and flight time dooor to door: 14 hrs. What, 14 hrs? For some reason Meg and I had thought the flight would be in the range of 6-8hrs; perhaps because neither of us bothered to look at a map or calculate the time difference of Kuala Lampur and London (8 hrs) plus the ETD (10 AM) and ETA (4PM). Oops! After our long, long flight, which actually wasn't bad at all (apparently SE Asia had made long travel in a comfortable plane seat with movies seem easy compared to some of our other modes of transport) we tottered ... read more

For my pre Birthday celebrations I decided to hold a Murder Mystery. Everyone really pulled out the stops with the costumes, and the evening was a great laugh. The food went down well which was a relief, and I think everyone had a fun night. ... read more

Hey everybody! Well, the past few days have just flown by and it's nearly 2 weeks since I updated so here goes. My weekend of the 21st included a trip to Salisbury Cathedral by coach tour. I got to see an original copy of the Magna Carta (which I originally thought was a place, not a document) and viewed the gorgeous city of Salibury enjoying lunch with a few other tourists from the trip. We moved along to Stonehenge where I went to back in the day of Longleat but this time I entered the grounds and got a bit closer to better pictures. So, it was a neat 40 minutes walking around the circle of stones but after seeing Macchu Picchu, it's got a long way to go! Haha. Anyhow, it's famous around here and ... read more

07:30am Sunday 25th March 2009 "You got any rizzlas geez?" says the sunglass wearing fella in a hoarse voice that suggests he's made the most of his Saturday night. "Sorry mate, don't smoke" comes my reply. It gets me thinking that my hoodie, beanie hat and tracksuit bottom combo might be giving off the wrong impression of me. (Good thing I decided against the Burberry cap at the last minute before leaving the house!) Now this probably isn't the typical conversation you'd expect to have on a train with somebody at 07.30am Sunday morning on the way to Dartford. Then I suppose given the choice, most people wouldn't be heading to Dartford at any time of the day, much less 7.30am on a Sunday! I should probably start at the beginning (It's only an hour earlier after ... read more

We had a lovely Christmas period, Christmas day after a fried egg sandwich and opening our presents we visited Wayne’s mum and dad to say Happy Christmas. We went over to Braintree for lunch and spent the afternoon playing Worst Case Scenario trivia with my parents and Aunty Mary. We got home tired and full of food. After a rest we tried some of the new Wii games out before heading to bed. Boxing day was Christmas dinner 2. We went to Wayne’s parents where his brother and family joined us for lunch. First however we exchanged presents. The two boys spent over ½ hr being tormented by there tubes of money. Baby Alicia liked the Hamilies bear Wayne got her. Dinner filled us up to bursting and after a chat we made a quick escape ... read more
