So Happy New Year! I am getting so bored of saying that and typing it into every e-mail at work. Although, everytime i feel myself getting a little grouchy with my work computer i am reminding myself that it won't be long until i say farewell to it. I do secretley do a little dance in my head and sing a song to myself everytime i have this thought. Everyone now knows that we have booked our tickets and the reactions varied from shock to tears to total excitement for us. I know we will miss everyone just as much as they will us but i just feel as if nothing can stop us now! I'm sure i will feel homesick at times, like my Hubster said i too have been thinking about the things i ... read more

We found this fascinating. In a big shopping mall on the food court, we found healthy, fresh food. This is east of Greater London. I don't know if it's common in the UK. ... read more

Hello Sinners! It has been a while since we have done a blog as Fiona and I have been enjoying spending time at home. As you may recall we enjoyed our times at the intentional communities we visited in the States and we wanted to try one closer to home. So last week we headed off to Bradwell in Essex. Noted for being by the sea and by a nuclear power station! This has meant that although there is some lovely scenery there is not much development, as for some reason people don't want to live nearby? So off we went last Saturday, our bikes strapped to the car, and readied ourselves for a relaxing week. Some of you may not know that Fiona has got the cooking bug and will soon head to Duxford for ... read more

Hello everyone! Just though I would write our first message since you have all very kindly signed up! I thought I would update you all on our plans. We are currently planning to leave at the start of September. We decided not to book a round-the-world flight with set dates as we felt this would restrict us too much, so we are not really planning too much and booking too much in advance which is rather scary! We have a rough idea of where we want to go which is to head through Northern Europe by bus/train for a few weeks up to St Petersberg where we will start the trans-mongolian journey through Russia with a stop in Moscow plus some other Russia towns that we haven't decided on yet. This will go through Mongolia and ... read more

Dear all, Can you believe it, tomorrow we will have been home for a week. Life has been a busy of mixture of visiting people and sorting our lives out! We have been up to Huddersfield to visit family and we have now managed to buy a car. Things in the UK don't seem to have changed too much. Someone should have warned me that there are a load of new pictures on coins...I nearly accused two people of trying to give me foreign money!! Asda still make very good hedgehog bread and it tastes especially good with marmite on it! (my first meal when I got home!!) We have also been into our barn to get some things, my priority was getting some jumpers as this summer weather seems to be a bit rubbish at ... read more

After staying up late doing karaoke the night before, I was very tired by the time I got to London on the evening of the 14th. The bed at George's mums' was extremely comfortable following the futon in Tokyo and the cramped seats on the Lufthansa flights. Tokyo had been action-packed and I was ready for a rest day. Walton-on-the-Naze is the perfect place for spending a day doing nothing, as there isn't really much to do. It shares a lot of similarities with Waikanae, where I grew up - it's a smallish town filled with rich old white people, has some nice walks and a safe beach, and it gets boring after a couple of days. In the afternoon we went for a very windy walk along the beach. George spent much of his childhood ... read more

For Wayne's 40th Birthday we took a few days off work together. I had got Wayne a trial flight from Earls Colne. We flew all over Essex, past my office, over our house, out to Bradwell and along the coast turning down the Stour to Manningtree. Wayne flew a lot of the way, and really enjoyed himself - enough that he is thinking of taking up lessons. On Saturday we continued our adventure in Ashford, Kent at Landrover Experience. We both drove around the off road track in the Range Rover Sport. It was scary but great fun. We're going to Milton Keynes later on to do it again!... read more

This is the day before I travel. All my clothes are packed, although I still need to go into town to tie up the loose ends before I dissappear FOREVER. Or just over 3 weeks. I'm listening to elbow and I made this travel blog account. I'm hoping I will update this, but you never know. I'll try to put some pictures up of the me and the people I'm meeting up with before I set off tomorrow. A 10am flight from Gatwick. but still ... read more
