Nearly there...... house packed up (thanks to Dora, Ronnie and Colette's help!), car sold (thanks to ebay) and rucksacks packed (thanks to tardis like qualities!!). Tomorrow we will hand the keys over to Jennie and Greg to make their new home in our old home. As no beds left at ours, we picked up chips and are staying at Tony's next two nights. Coach from Poole at noon on Saturday, flight from Heathrow at 8.15pm Saturday - we will reach Buenos Aires (via Paris) Sunday morning. Adios amigos!!! xx... read more

A big THANK YOU to all of you who helped to make our Farewell do on Saturday so special! It was lovely to be surrounded by close friends and family although it did serve as a reminder for what we'll miss! :-( It all started to feel pretty real on Saturday and all very exciting - we know so many of you will be following our travels and that means a lot to us. We're also looking forward to a great "Welcome home" party in the Hogs again!!! (you have been warned!!) We've spent the week so far packing up the house and filling the attic, which Gordon pointed out that I'd emptied (of stuff!) only to fill it up (with stuff!) again! I'm sure I'll regret not being more ruthless when we come back! ... read more

For those of you that aren't completely fed up of hearing the intricate details of our trip, here is an outline of our plans; 10 April - 9 May - Spanish school in Buenos Aires. This will involve living with a host (Elsa, a 61 year old chef and Italian professor) in the Recoleta area of the City. We will be attending Spanish school 5 mornings a week, afternoons free to take tango lessong (yes, we are, despite Gordon's protests!!) and generally chill 10 May - 9 July - two months independent travel, planning to travel the length of Argentina to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego (look it up on a map!) then back up through Chile. 10 July - 9 August - voluntary work in Sucre, Bolivia with street and orphaned children, living in a ... read more

Saturday 26.12.2009 Day 72 Bournemouth It was our last day in the Lakes today so we checked out and headed to Bournemouth beat hotel. It is a bit run down but we got a good deal. The hotel is full of music stuff on the wall. The bed was very uncomfortable and the kettle had lots of stuff in it so we had to get a new one the lift was not working and we were on the 3rd floor so that was not fun. Then when we tried to get to sleep there was riot in the hotel with kids running while and screaming braking windows and doors down with fire hydrant this went on all night and was on our floor and the one below. So we did not get any sleep all night. ... read more

Weeks passed and we had planned on moving to Bournemouth to live with Grahams parents, Kate and Paul until we had saved enough money to buy our tickets to OZ. We started with selling all of our belongings from the bed to the computers. We sold many items to family and friends, we also sold the majority of our belongings at a boot sale on a very cold and wet Sunday morning. We packed our cars full to the top with our belongings the Saturday night before. We woke early on the Sunday morning around about 6.00am, Mum had stopped at ours the night before as she was helping us the day of the sale. We was half way to the grounds of the boot sale when we realised we had taken the wrong turning and ... read more

Having decided that we had enough of Olde London Towne, Ali and I hired a car and took off down to the country, but not before a quick trip to Greenwich to stand on the prime meridian and sychronise my watch. We headed down about 2 hours South West of the city to a lovely little town named Wimborne Minster, which is situated about 25 mins north of Bournemouth and Poole, two towns on the English south coast. We were staying in Wimborne with Tilly and her family - for those of you who don't know Tilly she met Ali's sister Steph while traveling and stayed with us for a short while in Melbourne and with Ali's parents in Canberra. After being frontloaded with a mass of local information from Tilly's family, we headed out to ... read more

It's personally cost me an arm and a leg, but better to spend than to get frost bite that's my motto. I've also been fortunate to have lots of kits left over from my trek to Everest Base Camp ( Everest Base Camp Blog) Over the months I've been diligently researching and going through hundreds of reviews on the internet to find the best kit. Ordering in equipment from Canda and the USA when the pound was strong, staying up till the early hours to win that golden auction on eBay. Without any equipment sponsorship, I've slowly purchased everything myself, and often this is one part of preparations that people do not see.....
