For the first time in many years it has snowed and settled down on the south coast of England. What an opportune time! Someone asked me today whether I would be training outside. Well kinda! I went to the train station, couldn't get to work, came home. Oh and then 5 minutes ago, having been wearing my hiking boots all day I thought I'd test out my hobbit feet. It was cold! ... read more

Dear Travellers.. Finally I have started exploring United Kingdoms. I am not going to write long essay about my journey but I would just like to give you glimpse of it. I been to Bournemouth (16-18 Dec 08) Most interesting things about my journey are as under: 1- I booked ticket on Megabus.com from Coventry to Bournemouth at cheapest price (1 pound only) Yes!! I haven't forgot to add zeros ;-)) 2- The weather was unusaul on 17th.. same like Snow in October this year. It was purely clean and bright blue sky in the middle of the Winter. I believe God has given me X-mas gift :-) Thanks! Almighty Lord.. 3-The German Couple (my Host) whom I met online and who opened their Cozy home to this unknown traveller from India. I'm Thankful to my ... read more

Butterfly Belly is prob the best way to describe how we are both feeling right now. Such a surreal feeling, like the feeling you get before you go on holiday but even better!!! 5 weeks to go and i must admit i think we are both starting to feel the pressure........not owning up to it of course. Been so caught up with everything, especially our fun times, that the time has just flown by and now we find ourselves with weeks to get everything sorted. That is to finish off all the work in the flat so that it's ready and sparkling for our new tenants...pack and store all are worldly possesions and sort out packing for the trip. I have to admit i think we both think its going to be worse than it is ... read more

It's one thing deciding to travel it's another funding the trip. We were looking for something we could do together for the summer ideally while living in our Hymer Camper van. We responded to an ad, met Tony and Jenny and were soon appointed "campsite wardens" We worked in the New Forest at the Holmsley campsite. Gordon the warden spent his time straightening taps so the swans all faced the same way and sniffing the air for illegal campfires. Sue occupied herself by covering reception in post it notes. We met and worked with fellow travellers Phil & Gill and Mike & Tracy and will be meeting up with them again further into the blog. As the money came in we spent it on tickets (thanks Mark) jabs (arms like pin cushions) and visas (why is ... read more

Kris While we were still in Madrid we arranged a job in England for the summer - working for EF International Language Schools in Bournemouth. The draw of this, other than money was the free accommodation and the fact that, unlike other language summer school we didn't have to look after kids between lessons. Anyway, the way the summer schools system works is that lots of people from around the world come to study English in Britain for the duration of the summer. Some of them even stay for a whole academic year, but there's a particularly high peak in the summer months. As a result, language schools that cater for this need a lot of temporary staff during this time. Which is good for me and Kate. Think of Bournemouth. What springs to mind? Personally, ... read more

The ferry back from Bilbao to Portsmouth gave us far more than we had bargained for. Our ears pricked up when shortly after departure we had an announcement on the Pride of Bilbao (our ferry) from the ships Wildlife Officer that he was imminently to give an introductory talk on our whale watching opportunities in the Bay of Biscay. We keenly clambered up to the top deck and listened hard through the noise of the ships engines and sea breeze to understand how to be a successful whale watcher. Enthused and clutching our hired pair of binoculars, putting our expectation levels to zero, we set about spotting the largest creatures on the planet. Stood amongst what appeared to be a fairly seasoned breed of whale watchers and a forest of telescopes we were not alone in ... read more

Getting out of Oxford didn't proove to be super easy. We booked a cheap bus called 'Megabus' that picked us up on the opposite side of town. So we packed up our tent and took a series of buses to get to the stop. When we got there the bus was an hour late! This particularly sucked because we were trying to get to the only hostel in Bournemouth before reception closed at 6:30! Needless to say we missed it, and ended up spending the night in an expensive (but rather questionable) hotel. Well we have made it to the Bournemouth Backpackers hostel now and are enjoying it. The people are really friendly, and us Canadians make up the majority of the guests! Funny how that works. Tomorrow we are heading toward Exeter. But on the ... read more

So we thought we should explore some of the English coastline, Rob did a bit of research and thought that we should go to Bournemouth. We booked our coach tickets and had to wake up at 5.30 to make our way to Victoria Coach Station for our 7am departure, not fun! The bus trip was pretty comfortable, it takes about 3 hours to get there including a boring wait at Heathrow airport. We arrived and the weather looked threatening, and it stayed that way for the whole weekend! It wasn’t so much cold, more so irritating sprinkling rain that doesn’t warrant an umbrella but is just enough to make your clothes damp! We stayed in a nice apartment a short walk from the town centre and we were lucky enough to get an early check in ... read more

Well guys, Its that time again. I'm off to South Africa (again) tomorrow! While I was at Moholoholo over Christmas I looked after a baby vervet monkey which I named JJ (long story why lol). I've attached some pictures for you all to see :) The day before I left Moholoholo JJ went to Bambelela wildlife care centre in Bela Bela which is about 2 hours away from Johannesburg. Well anyway that is where I am going this time and I can't wait to see JJ again :) Bambelela mainly rehabilitate vervet monkeys but, they also have Meerkats which I am very excited about seeing as they don't get Meerkats in Hoedspruit so i've never seen them before other than in a zoo. They have a lot of wild game on the farm too. Well still ... read more
