Hi all, after a fiasco at the Como train station this morning with the tickets, we were sold tickets for the train that was leaving as I was paying for them. So, a two hour wait for the next one to come along. Arrived in Locarno at 3pm, mowst 0of the day shot to pieces. Tomorrow we go to Brig, via Domodossola, and return to Locarno via the Gotthard Pass. We have a few hours in Brig, long enough to look around and do lunch at the Hotel Du-Pont. More news tomorrow. Byee.... read more

Today we went on our little trip that the usi students planned. I kind of had a hard time sleeping last night so I was pretty tired, but it ended up really being really fun. we took our first train ride to Locarno. Ignore that I look terrible.. I was sleepy! We arrived in Locarno and we ate lunch, I ate with allie and her room mate stacy who I really liked. I like that they are taking things seriously and not wanted to go to chains and do things a little off the beaten path. I’m happy to do things as a group and have organized things to do (especially in the beginning) but I’m getting over the whole tourist akward American thing! I want to blend!! So we went to a little sandwich shop/convenience ... read more

10:05 p.m. (American Time) - Today was a good day. For the most part We got yelled at by Brinberg for being loud at night, that was the only bad thing. Michelle and I are watching "French Kiss" right now. I love this movie :) Anyway, we had a group trip today. It was a trip to Locarno. It was gorgeous. I rode a train for the first time. The trip began this morning around 11 a.m. 4 students from UZZI (our school in Lugano) came and picked us up. They were sort of our chaperones/guides for the day. Their names were Regina (from Brazil), Nick (from Geneva), Patricia (from the German portion of Switzerland) and Ufok (from Turkey). They were all very nice. In Locarno our group split. Half of us went ice skating. I ... read more

Last night's fondue trip was interesting to say the least, but in a good way. We walked about 20 minutes in a direction where we had no idea where we were going. There was about 12 of us I believe. I was getting a little nervous because I felt that we had been walking forever and had seen buildings start to disappear. I felt like we were in the middle of nowhere almost. Jackie and someone went into this hospital to get directions while Liz stopped a car, which almost got hit. A lady in the car gave Liz directions. We just had to keep going a little ways, so we did. We finally made it. I don't remember the name of the restaurant but we told them we had 12 and they couldn't seat us. ... read more

Today went with some of the Usi students to visit Locarno. Some of us went to the top of the Madonna del Sasso (the sanctuary of the Madonna) while other people went ice skating. We took a cable car up to the top of the mountain and then spent a few hours up there looking around before we headed down and back home to Lugano. ... read more

The past two days we have truly felt like legitimate backpackers. This is mostly because we unwittingly took a train ride and then a bus ride towards the middle of south Switzerland nowhere. We started to get a bit nervous when the bus continued to unload passengers at stops that still weren´t ours.....a gang of tan teenage boys in oversized sunglasses and white tees hopped off, followed by women with brown paper grocery bags overflowing with leafy vegetables and long loaves of bread and still, we sat and waited for our stop until we were the only ones left save a lone woman in a floral housecoat. Finally, we were there, wherever there was, neither of us knew. We hiked in the wrong direction through a random subdivision where women glanced up from there gardening ... read more

Ok, sorry everybody for making it so short, the internet place is going to close soon so I wanted to have all this posted b4 tonight. We arrive in Ascona Switzerland, from leaving Fussen, South Germany yesterday…leaving at 3:30pm and not arriving until 11:15 pm it took longer then what we expected..but it was worth it…on the way, we passed through Austria, literally for one roundabout, & time for a pic…..upon arrival into Switzerland from Austria (including Austria) were amazingly beautiful mountains…or shall I say Giants!!! Our jaws were dropped the entire 3 hours drive we had through them….the gigantic rock configurations are phenomenal & I truly don’t feel that pictures can amount to share a slight portion of their beauty, but ill try….i got some good ones. Where we are staying, Ascona in Locarno ... read more
