Joggen en fietsen lijkt een plaag dit jaar. Binnenshuis liggen de winterse outdoorspullen her en der verspreid en opengevouwen kaarten van afgelegen noordelijke gebieden bedekken de tafels. De droogmachine draait overuren. We vullen de pulka met donzen jassen en slaapzakken, een 4-seizoenen tent, merino wollen sokken en hopen enthousiasme. De handbagage explodeert. We hebben een plan nodig om de strenge dame te omzeilen bij de check-in balies. Gelukkig heb ik een brede smile met grote tanden. I just experienced one of the best trips of my life. One week in Norwegian and Swedish Lapland with a bunch of lifelong friends. You can’t ask for any more than that. Day 1 Bianca, Kiri, Corrie, Autumn, Aaron and I looking lovely, fresh and excited met at Lund Station around midday to begin the journey. Autumn had Burger King and Aaron had Subway which made me jealous as I had packed banana sandwiches. We eventually boarded the first train of the trip to Stockholm and it was an absolutely beautiful ride. There turned out to be several of these transfers, but we didn’t really care because we were so excited and I heard the most hilarious story in the world: Once Bianca’s friend was dog sitting for her cousin. I started my new Swedish history course this week and it was quite interesting. Also im getting very very excited about my best friend getting over to this part of the world! March 5th is still to far away for me! :D Most weeks I have only three classes, 2 (l.25 hour) swedish history, and 1 (1.25 hour) biocomposite course. So I am not really on campus that much and end up having alot of free time. The professors encourage students to take this time to travel :). JOKKMOKK! So I was still recovering from my sickness but I had already purchased the ticket for Jokkmokk's Winter Market. So bright and early we all loaded onto a bus at 6am and headed to the small town north of the arctic circle. On the way we actually stopped AT the actic circle! It was extremely cold today and seriously I stepped out of the bus into -40 weather and it was instant frozen! Back in Lulea it was -30 but seriously that ten degrees changes many things! By the way the Arctic circle is about an hour away from Lulea to give you an idea of distance. Most of this week was quite boring. I spent most of my time just going to the city center with isabel and santi and walking around. I decided that the Microbiology class was way over my head and also worked on getting into a different class. Finally I was successful and dropped the Micro class and added a Swedish History course. So because of my not having to go to Microbiology I really only had one class this whole week! So it was....ehhhh boring lol. But we did see some very pretty sights in the city center, we also went to Storheden. Storheden - this was quite nice because finally i found a new pillow! A nice latex pillow much better than the stupid airplane pillow that i have been suffereing from. The only down side ... read more
