Well monday i had my last Biocomposite course. Nothing to exciting. To finish the class all i have to do is complete one more assignment and turn in a lab report. YAY! I am still trying to get my online Fronter (access to my classes) to work. My academic advisor has added me to the swedish history class but I cannot access the powerpoints online and my Microbiology class is still listed. UGHH i hate all of these online formalities when it comes to college. I do love my swedish history course! It is very interesting and I am trying to come up with serveral ideas of where to go! One thing is for sure my hunt for a Dala Horse has been unsuccessful thus far but i will prevail! On Thursday Isabel, Santi, and I ... read more

I started my new Swedish history course this week and it was quite interesting. Also im getting very very excited about my best friend getting over to this part of the world! March 5th is still to far away for me! :D Most weeks I have only three classes, 2 (l.25 hour) swedish history, and 1 (1.25 hour) biocomposite course. So I am not really on campus that much and end up having alot of free time. The professors encourage students to take this time to travel :). This week has been uber boring....seriously i had two classes and thats about it. Sorry not to much to report :)... read more

Most of this week was quite boring. I spent most of my time just going to the city center with isabel and santi and walking around. I decided that the Microbiology class was way over my head and also worked on getting into a different class. Finally I was successful and dropped the Micro class and added a Swedish History course. So because of my not having to go to Microbiology I really only had one class this whole week! So it was....ehhhh boring lol. But we did see some very pretty sights in the city center, we also went to Storheden. Storheden - this was quite nice because finally i found a new pillow! A nice latex pillow much better than the stupid airplane pillow that i have been suffereing from. The only down side ... read more

JOKKMOKK! So I was still recovering from my sickness but I had already purchased the ticket for Jokkmokk's Winter Market. So bright and early we all loaded onto a bus at 6am and headed to the small town north of the arctic circle. On the way we actually stopped AT the actic circle! It was extremely cold today and seriously I stepped out of the bus into -40 weather and it was instant frozen! Back in Lulea it was -30 but seriously that ten degrees changes many things! By the way the Arctic circle is about an hour away from Lulea to give you an idea of distance. So after a brief stop and some very cold pictures we got back on the bus and went the last 45min to Jokkmokk. Upon arrival we parked the ... read more

So basically i spent all this week in bed....getting sick is never fun! Isabel went out and got me some cough medicine and after plenty of rest I was ok. But there are a few differences between getting sick in the US and getting sick here. First and foremost....no chicken noodle soup.....i cried. Seriously when I am sick and cold i just want my awesome campels super salty chicken noodle 90cents a can goodness....but not so much here. Actually its hard to find any soup here! Most of it comes in powdered form or has fish in it :-/ Second big problem (as i am sure many of you know) is pharmaceuticals here are quite different. There is no cough syrup, NyQuil, DayQuil, or any sort of decongestant. Instead you can find several forms of ecanacea ... read more

Sat Jan 28 2012 SLEEPING IS AWESOME! Especially since I went to bed at 5am blah! So after such an eventful night I pretty much just slept, relaxed, and read a couple of books! A good day! Sunday Jan 29 2012 I turned 23 today :) Again i slept in and spent most the day reading my book and relaxing! But around 7:30pm I met Isabel, Santi, and Charlen down at their apt for some dinner. I made salmon, garlic green beans, and potatoes! While Santi and I were washing dishes the lights go out....in walks Isabel and Charlen with a birthday cake with lit candles and all! So they sang me happy birthday and we all had cake for dessert. A simple birthday but it was a very good one! After dinner I got to ... read more

Friday Jan. 27th Had class from 1pm to 6pm JOY. On the upside i did get to sleep in! So after class went and met Isabel and Santi at the City Center. We needed to get some wine for the evenings festivities! Basically we decided to have an international dinner night. So Isabel and Santi were going to make a spanish dish (a spanish omlet), Charlen a french salad, Jenifer (this is a very nice girl from Hong Kong) and her other friend would make a typical chinese dish (cola-chicken), Nikolas from sweden was going to bring a very traditional dish (Blue Pudding), and I volunteered to make dessert! (RICE KRISPIES!) At the city center we picked up several bottles of wine to make Calemocho and also stopped at the coop in town which is a ... read more

Ah thursday....one day closer to friday! Got to sleep in this morning YAY! Had class at 1pm till 4:45, my Micro class obviously since no other class lasts this long lol. So we had another lecture...and I must admit my mind wandered a bit but for the most part it was the same ol same ol. We had a break abour 2pm and most the class actually just stayed and we began to chit chat. Elsa (swedish girl in class), Landon (guy from US), and my professor Tommy all talked about politics. This is one of the first real conversations I have had about the political system of Sweden. Tommy and Elsa were both inquiring about the differenes in health care and why the US is so....stingy. We also talked about the quality of education. I ... read more
