Well, differences between Lulea and Maryville abound, but I am going to go in depth here about them so hopefully when I am through, you will understand what I mean. First off, Lulea is a coastal city. Much of the year, they have ice breakers to break open the ice and let ships through. Lulea is also spread out over the archipelago. This means there are different islands that are connected by bridges and roads. The school is on Porson. My home is in Bjorkskatan. The city center with the airport and such is called Centrum. There's also Gammalstad, the old churchtown that is the historic start of Lulea and still standing with traditional houses and the Kyrkan-the church. There are others, but I haven't been to many of them yet. There is a lot of ... read more

Ed: Our weekend to Sweden began with a 4:30am alarm on Saturday morning in order to get to Heathrow in time for our 7am departure. Luckily, no dramas on this occasion, such the expert travellers we’ve become. Tim and Greer were supposed to have joined our flight, but dreaded an early start so cheated by booking a flight the previous night and staying at the Sheraton! We arrived to a snow covered Stockholm late morning and headed straight for the town to meet Greer and Tim at their hotel. After dragging them out of the warmth of the hotel and the spa, we headed for the shopping district (Matt needed thermals, Greer wanted a beanie, and Tim wanted a jacket. I, as usual, just wanted the alcohol for the long train ride that lay ahead!) After ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 25. Sweden 28th June 2005 Heading north along the Baltic coast The eight hotels in the small town of Tallberg (pop 400) on Lake Siljan fill up with tourists each year for the few weeks of summer. Even the Japanese come here on their four day tour of Europe we’re told! Hans Christian Andersen came here once too, in 1850 (did he come by horse-drawn carriage?). It was his record of the beautiful hilltop views across the lake and the charismatic traditional dwellings that put the village on the map - though it’s my belief that it comes nowhere near Stow-on-the Wold or Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds! Nice though, and the craft workshops were fascinating. They were busy cutting the grass and dressing the Mid-Summer pole for this weekend’s celebrations. Bright red ... read more
