hullo faithful readers! well my golly its been quite a gap between these thrilling posts, but not to fear.. Lockie is alive and kickin and causing a veritable riot all over europe. well not really actually, 'stoic' is the word that more comes to mind, a sloth tirelessly discovering the new world. crikey. haha ok so where did i leave you? i always forget. Madrid! i see. Well lets see.. so upon leaving madrid, in the now more preferred mode of travel (sprinting the last 500 meters the bus/train/ferry terminal) we got to Barthelona (the lisping capital) and stared staying at a very cool hostel called gothic point, with little individual cells that u could climb up into and have little parties if you desired. It was great. We saw a whoooole lot of Gaudi art ... read more

Ola Bo & Dud, Another action packed week. Last Sunday we moved just to the north of Cadiz on a site at El Puerto de Santa Maria. This is within the Sherry triangle, so guess what - a visit to the winery of Tio Pepe owned by Gonzalez Byass. Sherry is something that I’ve only ever used in cooking and it’s usually been something like Harvey’s Bristol Cream - not really my tipple. This visit however has introduced my taste buds to something completely different. Wine has been made on this site since 1835 and is still run by the Gonzalez family who still make and age their wines in the traditional way. It was interesting to find out that wines have been made in this area since before the Romans settled here. The chalky soil ... read more

After a nice day Thursday in Valencia, we arrived back in Barcelona this morning and bid farewell to our Ship. Valencia is a beautiful city, althought we didn't get to do much shopping since Nov 1 is All Saints Day in Spain and virtually everything was closed. The holiday also gave alot of people a 4 day weekend so Barcelona today looked like the day after Thanksgiving - which it probably is for shopping purposes here. There were more people on the streets than any of us have ever seen in one place. We toured a good part of the city by bus this morning, did some shopping this afternoon and tomorrow we are taking a 4 hour bike tour of the City. The weather is beautiful - sunny and 70! We've had a great time ... read more

Hola! As many of you know, we returned last weekend from a 5 day trip to Spain. The first week back to work after the break has been quite hectic so that's why it has taken so long to put up our pictures! Thursday was a LONG yet pretty good day of parent-teacher interviews from 11 am - 8 pm. We were completely knackered by the time we got home! Anyway, let's move on with sharing our adventure to Spain with you! We spent most of our week in Barcelona, but our hotel was about 50 km outside of Barcelona in a small town called Vilanova I La Geltru. Each day we walked about 3 km to and from the train station just to get to Barcelona and then back to our hotel. Once in Barcelona ... read more

So as promised, at the first opportunity I got, I went to visit my Grandmother in Andalusia. As it was a puente, and Stephanie had never been to Malaga, we decided to make a road trip out of it. So, after dropping my worldy possesions off to my third flat in the month of October (the flat I found after our Columbian disaster had turned out to be a virtual OCD library) we headed off to grab our bus to Madrid, and then our bus to Malaga! Thanks to my trusty Carnet Joven, our return tickets were 20% off! Costing each of us around £20 for a 6 hour return bus ride! Deal or no Deal?....uuh what do you reckon?! So at this price we were fully expecting a cramped and rickety coach, hurtling its way ... read more

Happy All Saints Day! Today is a national holiday in Spain--All Saints Day. From what I gather it's like the spanish version of memorial day--people go to cemetaries, announcers on the radio talk about famous singers who have died, etc. A lot of impromptu flower stores have popped up in the past week. A few weeks ago (my apologies for the massive delay) was the excursion to La Granja & Real Fábrica de Cristales, both relatively little-known places in comparison with other major attractions that Spain has (such as a Roman aquaduct in Segovia!) and only about 15 min. away by bus. Honestly, there's not much to La Granja (which means "farm")--but don't let that make you think any less of it. It's acutally a summer palace with a huge labrynth of gardens, fountains, and even ... read more

Hello November. Crazy. One .5 months down ... time has flown by. The last couple of weeks have been a rather uneventful blur, but things are going to start getting pretty interesting, I can feel it in the air. Now that October is over, I have 'unofficially' moved into my new, 'permanent' apartment. I HAVE KEYS! It's a weird feeling leaving something I have become very comfortable with and entering a new place. It's exciting too as now I have my own room and space that I can decorate however I please and feel 100% settled. I am only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the girls I have been staying with so needless to say I am sure I will still call my Ocotober piso a second home and visit frequently. Yesterday we celebrated ... read more

Hey everyone! Sorry this post is so late, I just finished midterms here so this week has been crazy with all the studying, etc. But here's the dish about my latest weekend trip - Madrid! I went with my friend Alex, who goes to Tufts and met a girl in last year's Tufts summer program who was studying English there for the summer. She were born and raised (and still lives) in the city of Madrid, so she was an amazing tour guide! We flew into Madrid on Thursday night and checked into our hostel, which was the first floor of an apartment building, therefore it was in a greaaat location but was very very small; we had to share a room just big enough for two bunk beds to be squeezed in, with two girls ... read more

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy halloween! It's a pretty relaxing week for me, because I have Thursday off since it's a holiday here in Spain. This means I have a 4 day weekend! Plus today I only have 1 class. I got paid from one of my companies today, so it's nice to have some extra spending cash! Tomorrow night my friends and I are all having a big halloween get together sort of thing. we a We are beginning to make initial plans for Morrocco. We have bought the tickets already, but now we all must plan where we want to go and what kinds of things we would like to see. We'll be there for 10 days, so I think that will be suficient time to be able to see a lot ... read more
