Not sure if you were aware, but I had a very adventurous childhood, including a stint living in Spain with the family. So, of course, when the parentals came for a visit in November, it was time to get that part of the family living in London (ie my bro and I) together for a trip back to our old stomping grounds. My brother, his girlfriend and I flew into Malaga, on the Costa del Sol in the South of Spain (how posh does that sound?) and met the parents, who had already had some time in Spain, brushing up on their Spanish. Pablo Picasso was born there, but other than that and as an entrance to the Costa del Sol, I'm not sure I see much to recommend it. Accordingly, we headed off pretty quickly ... read more

Last night I watched peanuts for an hour and a half. Laurel and I heard about this Valley style (by Jesuit) movie theater where they play older or underground movies for 2 euro. (Which, deceptively enough is not just two dollars.) We looked up the movies online that were playing there, and found we had a choice between a Spanish documentary on Woodrow Wilson and some animated movie called "Gritos en el Pasillo." For obvious reasons, we took our chances on the latter. We got to the theater right as the movie started, and so missed out on the first couple of minutes on the movie, so you can understand our confusion when we saw a bunch of dressed up peanuts on the screen. The humor was reminiscent of Thumb Wars (a spoof on Star Wars ... read more

¡Buenas Dias! Wow, I cannot believe it’s November! Time has flown bye, and I get more and more excited to see you all. It’s one thing to be away for a long time, but another not to be able to hear your voices and see your smiles. I have to note that while I was in Santorini last month, I saw a blocked off area in the water just off the coast, and I recall a cruise ship had sunk there some time ago within the last 9 months or so. That was the boat Ruth, (my Grandpa’s companion) was supposed to take off the island, so the passengers ended up borrowing a ship from another county… how crazy is that? I’ve had the opportunity to explore Spain a little more and develop new friendships within ... read more

Sant Joan, Ibiza, Spain Almost winter in the village! The birthday boys (all foreigners in their 50's) just came back from the famous Benirras beach, having enjoyed the sun and a few beers, happy to be alone in paradise...not at all like the almost 3000 (!!!) on a certain drumming Sunday in August!! Winter indeed! there is hardly any parking and the sun is shining, while some of us are sitting in the Vista Alegre, connected to the world with Wifi and good conversation! The tea and the excellent café con leche cost 1,20 euro's and the chickpea soup (filled to the brim) 4 euro's...some quick and easy sustenance! There are fewer people, despite the parking shortage, so the contact and communication is improved, parties are private affairs and we are going Paintballing on Sunday! People ... read more

Hello to all! The weekend has come! It was a pretty laid back week, I just got over a pretty horrible cold, which has been going around here like the plague. I'm feeling much better now, though, and am able to sleep all night without waking up with intense coughing. Last weekend me and a few friends were able to make it out to Aranjuez, a small town located south of Madrid city. It didn't take long to get there, and there was a really cool palace that I was able to tour. Luckily since I have my student card I'm able to do things like this for half the price as an adult. The coolest part of the adventure, though, was seeing the royal gardens. Wow, the park was so huge! There was even a ... read more

Wow. Paris is cool. Our three day weekend was amazingly well spent considering the last minute plannage that went into making it happen. We managed to see and do a lot considering how little time we had there. I really enjoyed it and immediately fell in love with the city regardless that it was only sunny for about 5 hours total during our trip. We also managed pretty well considering what little to no French we know and everyone we met was very friendly and willing to help out. I want to try to keep this as short and simple as possible due to the amount we did, so I've broken up our trip into our three days. Being concise about my adventures though isn't really my style, so bare with me if I dive into ... read more

Sorry I have not blogged in a while but, I have been so crazy busy, but in a good way, I just never have access to internet for extended periods of time. Anyways, so about two weeks ago, I went to Paris for the weekend. I was visiting my friend Mathilde there and it was absolutely wonderful! She has a great apartment in the center of the city. So, I arrived on Thursday night and it was obviously so great to see her and we stayed up late just catching up on everything. So, on Friday and Saturday Mathilde had work during the day so I just wandered around by myself. It was so nice to just walk around Paris. I was not sure what I wanted to see so, I just walked to the Pompodou ... read more

How beautiful it is to do nothing and then rest afterwards... ~ Spanish Proverb Hola people! Welcome to our Spanish travels...and as if a trip to Spain was not enough, a very special added bonus was that we stopped off in London to see my sister and Andrew's cousin, and then checked in on my brother in Kuala Lumpur on the way back home. In Spain we predominantly spent time in enchanting Andalucía in the south, but could not resist a few days in Barcelona as well. I have to apologise for the delay in uploading this travel blog, we got so so so caught up in the places we went to that sitting at a computer was not very high on the agenda, but I did manage to write about 80%% of the blog while ... read more

La Mussara Sixty kilometres north of Tarragona, Catalonia. The mountains of Prades: an amazing, vast, green and rocky landscape with small villages perched on top of hills and cliffs. Over a thousand metres of altitude. I stayed in the friendly refugio La Mussara, which is also the name of an area marked with several houses in my climbing guidebook. I quickily offloaded my bike and took the way to the village hoping to find an open market, maybe also a bakery... To my surprise La Mussara is a ghost town! Judging by the size of its ruins, a church and several stone houses, what remains today can only murmur in your ears imaginary stories of a busy, lively and even wealthy past, high up on a cliff overlooking mountains, little villages and the sea all the ... read more
