14 -15th November Pensicola We finally got to go swimming and spend the day on the beach. We got the skim board out and made Mum laugh. We made dribble castles (not very successfully). Our family game of soccer turned inot another riot. We all got sunburnt but not by nz standards. Everyone went swimming except mum and apart from the surgers in full wetsuits we were the only ones in the water. Come 1 o´clock we were the only people on the beach. Everyone came out again at about 3.30. Our favourite parts Blake- the beach was cool and I caught my first fish but ANton chucked it away. Mason - the old town was my favourite because all the houses were built onto the rocks and it looked cool ANton - I loved watching ... read more

My first day in Spain was a rather interesting and surreal experience, perhaps because I was deliriously exhausted from lack of sleep. The trip started well on the flight over. My seat-mate was a man from the Canary Islands named Michael, who spoke very little English. Combined with my lack of Spanish (though to my surprise I remembered quite a lot of helpful words - thanks Nina for all those conversations you had on the phone with your mom, lol) we turned out to have a very interesting conversation, full of many gesticulations to get our points across. It turned out he was a pediatrician visiting some friends in Miami and we talked about where he was from and about Spain. He gave me a heads up on how good the wine is here, which turns ... read more

This blog has been a long time coming as I got back from this trip over a month ago, but with all that happened on this trip I needed to write something to remember all the things that happened. Before I start I just want to say that this festival called San Fermin, better known as the running of the bulls, was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was complete sensory overload for 2 1/2 days. You see on most trips you go for a specific purpose whether to party, the culture, sightseeing, sports, or a small mixture of them, but San Fermin is everything to the max and to top it off some of the most beautiful girls in the world. It was really like being on a total high the whole ... read more

SAN FERMIN - July 6th till July 10th 2008 Just what is the significance of the color red in the San Fermin Festival other than it being particularly attractive to the eyes of the bull? The truth is, there is clearly no explanation as to why majority of the revelers in the San Fermin festivities wear red clothing or have red fashion accessories worn around their bodies. When you do decide to travel and participate in the Feast of San Fermin, you can bring with you your favorite red colored shawl as a symbol of being one with the festive community. As we have earlier mentioned, red denotes the peak of emotions, one that is clearly evident in the many activities of the feast. Furthermore you will be doing justice to your shawl's overall versatility and ... read more

We survived the bull run! It was a fantastic, tiring couple of days but completly worth it! I´ll mention what we got up to in Madrid first, not much at all really! Coming from Scotland where it had been raining and windy the whole time and hitting 38 Deg it was just exhusting for us two! The first day there we were buggered from the travels getting to Spain so we just foud a park and had a siesta for a few hours to get out of the midday heat. Still we had plenty of time to have a look around the city that afternoon and the next day and on the whole there wasn´t to much to see in the city. I have heard that it can be quite boring on the eye but the ... read more

WOW!! What an adventure in Pamplona! A group of us (9 total) went to the encierro... AKA the running of the bulls. No amount of study, knowledge, understanding of the culture, etc. could have adequately prepared me for the experience. It was absolutely amazing... something I think that every person should see at some point in their life. We left Salamanca on Friday afternoon as soon as classes got out. It was an interesting adventure getting out of town, but eased by the use of a GPS system that one of the girls brought with her. We traveled for about 3.5 hours through the most beautiful countryside I´ve ever seen. It even beat the scenary in Colorado! It was so incredibly green! The mountains were amazing, and we curved in and around them most of the ... read more

This past weekend, I had the amazing opportunity to visit Pamplona during the Festivel of San Fermin. The actual saints day of San Fermin was Monday, July 7 and that is when the festivel began with the first Encierro (Running of the Bulls). We were there Saturday and Sunday morning, so saw the very end of the festivities. On Friday ... read more

Well, well, well. It was finally here. The run of a lifetime and the reason Dave's made the trek to Europe. 'The Greatest Bullfighter' (as he'd been calling himself) was quite nervous to say the least. But before the run was to take place, we went to the opening ceremony where we were drenched in Sangria, water, wine and whatever else people poured on you from the balconies or sprayed at you in the crowd. Hilarious but soooo packed. 30,000 people crammed in to these little streets and main square. It went off though as you'll see from the photos. Anyway, on to the run...Brendan (Zoe's brother) and Dave had plenty of little discussions about tactics for this run especially after watching the first run which ended up being the bloodiest run in 50 years. Apparently ... read more

Well we survived 10 days with another 2500 other young ones. Pampalona for the Running of the Bulls or Festival of San Fermin has been quite an experience. Both Debbie and I think we slotted back into festival mayhem quite well. We came here last Monday to catch up with Ollie my youngest brother who seemed sure it would be an "experience" for us to see festival mayhem but the truth of it is that apart from a few "munters" it has been a relatively tame festival in terms of out right debauchery. Quite a relief given the talking up it had been given. Ollie as usual has landed on his feet here and worked out one of the best ways to have the festival experience. He is working as ground crew setting up tents, providing ... read more
