This is the first time I´ve had any sort of length of time on the computer. Please forgive me. 2 more things. 1. I haven´t been able to hook up my computer to the internet yet, so no pictures 2. I have no idea where the apostophe on this keyboard is, so I´m using the accent mark. I think you can get over it. Hokay sooooo.... I almost missed my flight in London. My flight from Dallas was delayed, and then I went to the wrong terminal, and then when I was in line to go through security, they told me I could only carry one bag, and that my purse counted as a back. So I had to get out of the line and check my carry-on bag, get back in line. I got through ... read more

After what seemed like 6 days, we finally got to Madrid. Sicne I was so tired from coaching soccer camp, I was able to sleep most of the flight which I think helped with my jet lag a tiny bit. We walked around Madrid for probably 4 hours. I was exhausted. It helped meget a feel for the city though. Pretty, but not as pretty as some of the places I saw in Italy. A lot of the buildings downtown have graffiti on them--kind of interesting. We really didn't get a chance to see too much because our teacher was hardcore power walking, but did run into a GIANT gay pride parade--which was fun/funny. hah Everyone doing the program seems very nice. I love both of my roommates so far. We went to 2 bars and ... read more

Hola, 24 JUNE - Sunday • The bus from Barcelona got me back home at about 1900 hrs. I decided that since it was early, I'd go grab a bite and take in a movie. (Funny how I used the word 'home' above. Honestly, I did feel very 'at home' both in Madrid and in the neighborhood near the hostal where I was staying. More on that later.) I bopped it on over to Calle Fuencarral and had a bocadillo de calamares and a sidra. I definitely hadn't gotten sick of tortilla española in my sandwiches, but I thought I'd just have something different. I'm a huuuuge fan of the alcoholic cider for which Spain's northwestern provinces of Galicia and Asturias are well-known, so I had to drink me a couple of them. It helped ... read more

SpainKirsten Sheppard 8 days but only 1.5 days to explore. These are the challenges of travelling on business. You get to go cool places, but have to work harder than you play. As a result, I can say that I visited Madrid, Alcala de Henares, Toledo and Pamplona...but I barely saw Toledo... of course, I got to speak espanol and dine as I imagine Queen Sofia does. Madrid It would be easier to do this if I actually wrote it when I was there. But I truly did not have time. For anyone reading who is romantacizing the life of business travel, all I have to say is 8am-11:30pm. Those are the working hours. The biggest disappointment for me on this trip was learning that siesta doesn't happen anymore. Oh, there is a break in the ... read more

We've been in Spain for three days and so far, so good. Weather has been picture perfect and we are enjoying the wonder and glamour of old Europe. Did the double-decker bus tour the first day and saw some bull fights that night. To us Westerners, it's a rather odd mix of pagentry and brutal violence, but it is the culture. Visited the town of Toledo yesterday (30 minutes away by train). It features all the old-world charm you would expect to find in Europe, with its narrow cobblestone streets, romantic plazas, and delicious bakeries. Today we visit the Palicio Real (Royal Palace) and a couple of the big art museums. Then tomorrow we head to India. Some interesting notes thus far. 1) I find it ironic that TSA found it necessary to confiscate Rachel's ... read more

This weekend one of my classmates hosted a pot luck dinner at her apartment......I ate way too much. I had the opportunity to meet several people who were attending my school. I really like the fact that everyone is from a diffrent place. Paris, California, Arizona, Poland, Australia.......you name it... there is a student here. It´s interesting when you speak with a diverse group of people you realize how similar we all are. I think Robert Kennedy said it best when he said that ¨no matter what color you are or what region of the world you are from....we all have the same underlying needs.¨ ( Well....he said something like that (lol)). This morning, I had the chance to visit Retiro Park. One of the things that I like most about Spain is the parks. ... read more

Hola otra vez, 14 JUNE - Thursday • The bus ride to Madrid was split up by a stop in Zaragoza, Spain's fifth-largest city. It's probably best-known for its cathedral, which we visited. It was a really enormous cathedral, constructed thanks to the riches brought back from the Americas, but the Plaza that lines its south side is no doubt one of the biggest I've ever seen, if not the longest. After the visit, we had lunch, which was... an adventure. Our waitress had issues with counting the number of different dishes we ordered, and as a result one of the girls didn't each her entire meal. Many restaurants offer you a full meal for one price - that'd include one plate (soup, salad or maybe some pasta), a second plate (fish/meat and potatoes) a ... read more

Well I came here to improve my spanish speaking skills and I can definetly say that I´m accomplishing that goal........every minute of the day .....spanish ....spanish......sppanish ! I´m enrolled in an intensive 4 week program and it is kicking my butt. I am not complaining but I have a lot to learn. I have to have a drink after class every night ( no joke). I love the school and my teachers are great.......but learning a lanugage for several hours a day can make your head explode. I can´t wait until the weekend. I really want gto see more of the city! I´m still elated to be here! Chao Jennifer ... read more
