Welcome to my first entry with Travelblog. I am in Europe on business and my first 3 nights are in Madrid. The first day I arrived exhausted from 18 hours of traveling from Madison, Wisconsin. Today, Tuesday, my goal for the day and the whole Madrid stay was to see Guernica at the Reina Sofia Museum. Turns out the museum is closed every Tuesday. A slight oversight but now I don't think I will have any time to see the museum before I leave. I have appointments tomorrow at 830 and then I fly to Barcelona in the afternoon. I could take a taxi to the museum after my first appointment run inside to see what I need to see and then catch another taxi to the airport. That could be the only way. I ... read more

On Sunday Beltran took me to Mejorada del Campo just south of Madrid to see a Cathedral that Justo Gallego is building. OH MY GOSH!! very very impressive the guy has done an unbelievable amount of work all for the love of the Virgin Mary. Justo was studying to be a priest in the 1940´s when he encountered turberculious and had to leave the monastery. All his life he has been in awe of the Virgin Mary and wanted to build a chapel in her honor, then he thought why not a cathedral. So he bought books on "How to build your very own Cathedral", one of the early releases of Timelife Books; never did sell very well. I think you can still purchase a set at Klindts Bookstore, Phillip cornered the market on Cathedral building ... read more

I watched the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona this weekend. My classmates and I took the 6 hour trip by bus and stayed up for a full 24 hours. Everything that I have every heard about the festival is true! The party never stopped. This is definetly something that you must do before you die ......but honestly, I never need to do this again .... read more

Spanish people stare. A lot. And they don´t look away when you look back at them. Today, on the subway, there was a guy sitting across from me. When I looked at him, he was looking at me, and didn´t look away. So I just stared back. We had an unofficial staring contest. (Just so you know, I won) But it was the weirdest thing. Yesterday, the school threw a party at a bar/club in Sol. Free drinks for 2 hours. Well, free sangria and beer for 2 hours. We got there early, and walked around the streets nearby for a little while and got a glass Sangria (gratis tambien) from another bar before we went in. The first free sangria was good. The stuff in the other bar, no era muy bueno. So yeah. Today ... read more

Every trip seems to have an overriding theme, unfortunately, its starting to be quite apparent that this trip is going to revolve around transport, and perhaps the lack of it. First stop of the day was to Madrid’s train station to join the long queues to sort out our trains to Pamplona… but the return trains were all fully booked… so we reverted back to our trusty buses instead - better than a bridge collapse I suppose. Now with half the day already wasted, we could finally start our sightseeing… We spent a couple of hours in the ‘Museo del Prado’, the Prado Museum, which houses some great sculptures and paintings from the 12th to 19th Century by various artists including: Goya, Rembrandt, and Rubens etc. Next stop was the ‘Palacio Real’, the Royal Palace, and ... read more

After finishing work today we jumped in the car and headed up to Preston. Jason and Kirstyn arrived in the UK yesterday and were at Bernie and Shaun’s when we arrived. We awoke to another wet and miserable UK day and headed out to Liverpool airport which was at high alert due to the recent terrorism threat. Mick managed to talk the staff at the airport bar into putting on game 3 of the State of Origin and we watched the first half with a beer before boarding the flight to Madrid. There we were met by a rep who took us to the motor home place and, after some paperwork and a stern warning from the girl there about taking the home into Pamplona, we were on our way. We immediately got lost and ended ... read more

This is the first time I´ve had any sort of length of time on the computer. Please forgive me. 2 more things. 1. I haven´t been able to hook up my computer to the internet yet, so no pictures 2. I have no idea where the apostophe on this keyboard is, so I´m using the accent mark. I think you can get over it. Hokay sooooo.... I almost missed my flight in London. My flight from Dallas was delayed, and then I went to the wrong terminal, and then when I was in line to go through security, they told me I could only carry one bag, and that my purse counted as a back. So I had to get out of the line and check my carry-on bag, get back in line. I got through ... read more
