Tuesday 19.1.210 day 97 Tarragona We went back to Tarragona again and got a Tarragona pass that got us into a lot of the Roman sites for free it was 10€ each but was not worth it the main site I wanted to see was the Roman Circus it was fantastic and very well preserved it cost 3€ to see that and the other sites we got in was the wall but there was a lot of wall you could see without paying for it. The pass also got us in to the Amphitheatre that we had seen from out site the day before and we did not see any more by going inside so it is not worth paying to go into that. We also got to go in to a few houses which ... read more

Monday 18.1.210 day 96 Cambrils Today we decided to go to what we had been told by our resort was a little fishing village close to our hotel. We drove though the village but it seemed more like a tourist destination about 10% of the ships in the harbor where fishing boats the others where luxury sports boats and game fishing boats. The place was full of 4 and 3 star hotels and the beach front was full of upmarket restaurants with seating all along the beach front. We drove along the beach front and too our surprise came across out town it turned out that the two towns are next to one another. We then keep going and drove by the coast to Tarragona where we had a look around it coast. Between our town ... read more

Sunday 17.1.210 day 95 Salou beach We slept in today and then we had to sort out some problems with our unit is had not been cleaned properly before we moved in and there was a few things that where broken that needed fixing like we could not lock the door to our balcony. After we got most of it sorted we then went out for a walk along the beach. The Mediterranean is very blue and Salou has fantastic long beachers. We had Ostrich steaks and local fresh veggies for dinner tonight. I have never had Ostrich before it was fantastic. ... read more

Saturday 16.1.210 day 94 Spain - Salou Cosra Daurada We had a good sleep in and then headed to the Roman part of Tarragona. There was settlement in the region by the 5th century BC, the Romans up a military base in 218 BC and over the next 200 years the entire Iberian Peninsula was conquered from this base. In the 2nd century BC a great wall was built around the city. The wall was original 3,500 meters today 1,100 meters remains and we got to see a lot of this it still forms part of buildings that are in use today including the coffee shop that we had coffee at in the local forum. It was the hub of the daily life in Roman times and still is today. While we where there was a ... read more

Well, it turns out I do have internet on this farm. But there is a password and I have this feeling only the parents get to know, so I haven't asked for it yet. And I'm pushing my siesta a little bit, so this will be relatively short (although I've noticed that every time I say that the entry just get's extra long). I am in a town of about a hundred people, called Les Piles. This is a family farm. The dad is one of a long line of farmers and the land is passed down through generations, which is pretty cool. The mom is a nurse in a hospital in a neighboring town, and there are three kids (ages 10, 8, and 6). No other WWOOFers, which is too bad, but I have a ... read more

Ola, I arrived in Tarragona around 830 or so, and not much was open yet. The city was founded in 217 BC by the Romans, and it was one of the most significant Roman cities in Spain. I wandered over to the Forum and took some photos before heading along the waterfront to the well-preserved Amphitheatre. I enjoyed wandering around the site because there was no one there and I had it all to myself. I then walked past some of the Roman walls and up into the tower that used to be part of the Hippodrome where races were held. There were many statues and underground cavers that had been present in the structure and it was quite atmospheric. I had purchased a multiple entry ticket which got me into 6 sites for 5 euros ... read more

Rosemary rang at 6.00am this morning to let Bernie know that the email has now been sent???!! We thought that was what she rang to tell us at about 4.00am on Tuesday morning?! Anyway, when Bernie logged on he found that he does now have the link. Now he just has to make the time to do the test before the end of the week. It is a nuisance really as it would have suited us for him to do the test yesterday morning while we were killing time waiting for the welcome session! Ah well, c’est la vie, I am sure we can find an hour before the end of the week for Bernie to do the test. After breakfast we caught the bus into Tarragona to have a look at the Roman ruins. When ... read more

New Zealand Immigration have turned down my work visa application, resulting in me loosing my job in Wellington. Why? Because of slightly raised liver enzymes on my blood tests. I think it just shows that my liver is working, more work = more enzymes. Anyway I'm now on a strict(ish) weight loss regime and drinking only minimal quantities of ale. So i headed off to Spain cause Ellie was there for Xmas and new Year and I wanted to take a break from sitting at home in damp boring suburban Hampton and do something fun. We went to the bar on the first night and 4 rounds for 3 people came to around £12, result! We spent a day in Tarragona walking round the street market and roman ruins. It was great, there were baby chicken ... read more

What a holiday! Coming within a hair-width of our lives, Leo and I needed the rest of the holiday just to recover from the flight there. Meanwhile if I was going to be in recovery mode anywhere, what better than your own apartment within a minutes walk of the beach under the warm Spanish sun? The flight started well, and Leo and I were doing our usual banter about flying in cheap plastic planes, no doubt putting off most of the other patrons, rather than ourselves. Which was all very funny until about an hour into the flight when we hit a severe thunderstorm, turning our sturdy plane into a loose bouy bobbing around in stormy seas. They had to kill all the electrics, as we were being repeatedly struck by large lightening bolts - a ... read more
