Another Great Escape from miserable early winter weather at home. First to Munich, Germany for a very brief look then on to Barcelona (which we had not visited in our 6 weeks in Spain 2 years ago.) Then the Transatlantic repositioning cruise to Puerto Rico, 16 days. Stops included Palma de Majorca, Malaga, Cadiz, Funchal Madeira, Santa Cruz & Arreciffe Canary Islands, 5 days to cross the Atlantic, then Tortola BVIs, St. Thomas US Virgin Islands and finally Puerto Rico. Been walking. Been driving. Now it’s training time. And that’s not training but TRAINing. Big day tomorrow as we choof chuff from the grand and grandiose St Pancras Station. I shouldn’t use choof chuff as no longer are those adjectives or onomatopoeiadic sounds associated with trains like the Eurostar. Despite the fact that St Pancras does have a platform 9 and 3/4 I do t expect any steam powered locomotives to depart from any platform. The station is a magnificent mix of old and new. It performs well as a major international departure and arrival terminal and blends the functionality expected of modern terminals with the ornate and intricate architecture of an era well gone. Oui, je suis toujours en vie! Mais je n’ai pas vraiment rien à dire de mes journées ici qui serait différent de tous les autres blogs ou sites web. Mes photos ne sont pas bonnes pour 2 raisons, la réalité d’ici : les endroits magnifiques sont soient trop grands, ou trop près des buildings voisins. Ville pas du tout photogénique quand nous ne sommes pas équipés des meilleurs matériels. Les couleurs des tuiles sont magnifiques et à couper le souffle. Mais avec le soleil, on ne voit pas bien sur pellicule. Bref, allez sur le net! Côté bouffe: parmi une rue de 30 bars à tapas offrant une variété impressionnante, le SEUL végé est l’omelette aux patates SANS goût. Ils ne semblent même pas avoir encore découvert le sel et poivre. Aujourd’hui est le jour J : ce n’est pas tant d’aller à Barcelone, mais surtout de quitter Andorre! J’ai pris un café au bar de l’auberge avec la gang. Ils étaient tous autant déçus que moi de mon départ! Les touristes qui restent plus de 2 jours, y’en a pas! Ils étaient habitués à ma présence. Moi aussi. Bref, ils m’ont offert tout ce qu’il faut pour la route, et j’ai eu droit à mes «colleux». C’est qu’on s’habitue aux petites bêtes qui squate les cuisines avec tv... Arrivée à Barcelone vers 16h. J’ai marché doucement jusqu’à mon auberge, à environ 25 min de la gare d’autobus. Il fait très beau, surtout grâce à la brise de la mer! Barcelona 9th April Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and Spains second largest city. Everywhere you’ll see the ornately works of Antonio Gaudi, 20th century Modernism emblematic constructions declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. I make no apology for this Travel Blog turning into a food blog but you cannot come to a city that prides itself on its cuisines, with many different styles including Catalan.
