Breakfast at 6.30, on the road by 7.30 as we had to be at Oswiecim by 8.30. You may not recognise that place as that is the Polish name, most of the world would know it by it's German name - Auschwitz. It was a sombre, moving experience that we will never forget. We were actually quite late arriving as there were road works and we had a take a large detour. The bridge that Topdeck usually go over was under repair and could only take traffic weighing up to 8 tons... our bus was 18 tons (without luggage and people!) We arrived at 9.30 which meant we had 1 less hour which wasn’t a problem because Auschwitz and it's neighbour Birkenau were emotionally draining and I know I couldn't have taken another hour. We started ... read more

So to finish up the day from Friday and after I missed the train... I stood at the platform for about a minute. I spun around in my head the options, there being not too many, and I kept going back to how the taxi driver could've been wrong -- he had looked at my ticket and said it would leave at 14.04, why did it leave at 14.00?? Then it dawned on me. 14.04 ≠ 4 minutes after 2 pm 14.04 = 14th of April Why do I always get the illiterate taxi drivers. Anywho. I was kicking myself. But looking on the bright side... oh, there was none. I had to go back and buy yet ANOTHER ticket, this time paying the penalty and a new reservation fee. ... read more

I want to skip the irrelevant details of my flights from Mumbai to Vienna. but this being an account of my travels and all........... Ok so I reached the Mumbai airport really early. the guy at immigration had so much time to spare that he was even showed me the UV light and how to detect fake passport. Thanks to him, now I have enough information to start a perfect passport scam(I know how to avoid the loopholes). Austrian Airlines is quite ok. food and service fine. I reach Vienna airport really sleepy. Transit is nothing to brag about. The seats were so uncomfortable I sat on the floor on cross legged position and went to sleep for 1 hour on my backpack!! I awoke quite rested and then a policeman told me to sit on ... read more

That's what Pedro said as we we sat in the kitchen supervising Miguel cooking dinner. After four relaxing days I had made myself quite at home in the green apartment on Dobra street. Yes, I had become, "just like family." Vilnius, Lithuania was not the travel destination I had hoped for. I arrived in a snowstorm and the biting cold kept me couped up in the hostel most of my time there. I saw a few churches and one of Europe's largest shopping malls. But besides the big Christmas tree lighting we went to in the Old Town square, I was disappointed in the vibe of the city. I felt like I should have stayed longer in Riga or skipped Vilnius entirely. The downtown area was too big and complicated to navigate. The hundreds of churches ... read more

Ola peeps! Glad you liked the photos. Thought we'd let you see some more while we have the ability! Had an exceedingly nice day yesterday, pehaps inspired by the glorious weather. Discussed the finer points of the famous composer "Chop-in" with Ben, persuaded him that the Polish beer Zywiec is pronounced "six" and I myself (Dan) uttered the words-"sorry I dont speak foreign" to an innocent Polish woman asking for change. Apparently I also laughed in a nuns face but I do not agree entirely with this. Apart from that we had a lovely walk around 'old town' which was completely rebuilt after its distruction during world war 2. It is very pretty indeed as i'm sure you'll agree from the picture. Today we went up the Palace of culture for a panoramic view of Warsaw ... read more

Hi from poland! It's Warsaw today after a 6 hour train ride from the german capital. Yesterday we rounded off our Berlin sightseeing, visiting the Olympiastadion, host of the 1936 Olympics and designed by Hitler. I'd nagged Sam and Dan since we arrived in Berlin that we should go there as it's the ground of Hertha Berlin a German footy team and holds 85,000 people - Ben (footy geek) Also carried on our tradition of going up things - despite Dan's fear of heights - went up the enormous TV tower and the Reichstag. First impressions of Warsaw are good, looks pretty in the early evening dusk, its a very neon dominated cityscape, every building insists on having a large glowing sign attached to the roof. We're staying at a hostel called Nathan's Villa and we're ... read more

The time has come for me to move to Warsaw, actually to Komorów. I was waiting for that moment for quite a while. Now I am a bit scared but will not retreat. I am staying at Ula's brother-in-law's house. He doesn't need it now 'cause he's in New York with his family. The house is quite big although I occupy the first floor plus the second-floor bathroom. This is when I decided to run this journal. I have left everything behind me, my jobs, my loves, my bad lucks, everything. Now I wanna start a new life.... read more
