Scott and I had a frantic start to the weekend in Norway as I had just flown back from Krakow after being there all week for work. However, we were having better luck than the guy in front of us as we entered security checks at Gatwick, who heard the one thing you dread … ‘Sir, you’re at the wrong airport’. Oh dear, that guy didn’t have a chance in hell making it to Luton for his flight home, what a nightmare! Given the time of year it wasn’t dark when we arrived around midnight, there was still some light in the sky so it felt more like 9pm. We had a semi-sleep in until 9am and then enjoyed some pickled fish for breakfast, before heading off to have a look around Stavanger. It was spooky ... read more

Godag! ... read more

J'ai un ... read more

We woke up the next morning to rain - nothing terrible but it was coming down steadily. By the time we finished breakfast it was raining hard. We decided to play some cards, read, take naps, and hope it cleared up enough to attempt later in the day. At 3pm we were back to reading (and writing TravelBlogs!!) and the rain was still a problem. The weather forecast predicted a narrow window of clear skies between 7pm and 10pm and we were hoping to head out then. Remember that daylight is not a factor this far north! By 5pm it had stopped raining and we thought we’d give it a shot. The lodge was super cozy - like a mountain resort - complete with panoramic views, couches, tables, and a lit fireplace - but we’d come ... read more

I made it to Stavanger! The cycling in Norway has been tough, to say the very least! Looking at the map I figured that the south would be the easy part seeing as the terrain wasn't even barely hitting the first contour at 300m. Well it turns out that the south of Norway is a huge mass of 299m mountains and I yo-yoed my way for 4 hard days to Stavanger when the direct motorway route is only 250km. The scenery has been totally amazing of course. A million cute Norwegian villages buildings all in white or red wood, huge cliffs, beautiful lakes for swimming and I could go on on. You'll see from all the pictures. But the first two days especially were so hard. I think by the third day I'd got used to ... read more

I'm just back from Preikestolen. This is Norway's number 1 tourist draw. An amazing bit of rock that sticks out above the Lysefjorden, just over an hour cycle (plus 20 mins on a ferry) from Stavanger. Yesterday, after a lazy morning, and the first rain whilst cycling since Germany (I waited it out in a bus shelter which there are loads of) I hoicked myself up the 300m climb to the end of the road at Preikestolhytte and was greeted by a huge car park with a mix of campervans and cars and a long queue to get out as the barriers didn't seem to be working. Haha. Well I had intended camping wild again, but a) they have special no camping rules for this area, b) I saw the lovely hostel overlooking a lake at ... read more

This weekend I traveled to Stavanger to visit Kristine. I took a five hour bus ride, through tunnels and on two ferries. After I arrived, Kristine and I walked out along the ocean to a nice spot to watch the sunset. It was cloudy, but still beautiful. Saturday morning we headed into the city center. We walked around the shops, and listened to the music that was around town. Stavanger was chosen as the cultural capital of 2008. There were three stages set up around town for various performances. Kristine had to go to work that afternoon so I opted to stay in the city and catch the bus back later. I watched a few of the performances on the main stage including: a song from les misarables, a Congo band, and a hip hop dance ... read more

Hi again, I was really excited to discover Norway for the first time in Stavanger. I had a transit in Amsterdam and was amazed by this beautiful airport, the nicest I have ever seen since I travel. Huge and quite a nice dynamic and atmosphere. I saw a great quote on one jetway and discover it on the photo slide....you will understand how women are so important on this earth !! LOL I was there for a business meeting which went really well and finalised a great interesting project. As it finished not too late, I had the opportunity to visit a bit the city. That's so cute, so different and the houses seem tiny. With my colleague Carolina (would have loved to be there with Daniela, my dearest colleague), we went to walk in the ... read more

Finally, also der letzte Bericht!

Bergen to Stavanger We took a scenic ferry ride from Bergen to Stavanger. It was typical of any coastal ferry with lots of islands and little towns along the coastline. Once we arrived we boarded an all night train back to Oslo.... read more
