So it's pretty windy and cold here, but when the sun comes out it's not bad at all. We walked around the city for a while, it's really cool. It almost feels like a set for a movie, and all the buildings are so intricate the kinda look like miniatures. There are really great shops everywhere, i'm sure I can get some good shopping done... and of course there is the historic part too. We went to the church of St. Nicholas, which was built in 1320. They say Columbus must have worshipped there. Oh, also the tap water is contaminated in Galway, so we have to use bottled water to brush our teeth. Yum. So thats all for now, we'll be going out for a pint soon and dinner after!... read more

Having loosely organised to meet a friend (Noel) from my overland trip to China, I came to the realisation that all I had was his e-mail address and the town he lived in in Ireland (Moycullen, Galway). Following frantic writing of e-mails without reply I decided to track him down. All I will say is that I am glad I was in Ireland where everybody seems to know one another!! Admittedly I thought Moycullen was in the centre of Galway, but how wrong I was. Starting off with a trip to the Tourist information Office in Galway, I was surprised how helpful they were when I said:" This is a long shot but I am looking for a friend in Galway by the name of Noel O'Neill. I told them that he lived in Moycullen, but ... read more

Having arrived in Ireland just over a week and a half ago and survived my first hangover in Waterford, I subsequently progressed westwards towards Cobh (pronounced Cove) where the Titanic was to set sail from on her last journey. In a former life when things got tough, the superiors used to call it character building. Well I can honestly say that I have been doing some character building stuff during this past week and a half as I have never experienced so much shitty weather as I have done in Ireland. It has rained absolutely every single day, oh apart from one day on the way up to the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast, where we had a little sunshine but I was cycling into Gale force winds. You can't have everything I suppose! ... read more

Connemara I had originally planned to join Dirty Boots Treks for a three day hike in Connemara National Park but it was sadly cancelled due to lack of numbers. I didn’t want to miss out on the whole area though, so I headed to Clifden from Galway to spend a few days in the Connemara countryside. I didn’t do any wild hiking but it was still beautiful. On the bus from Galway I met a French girl called Benedicte who was planning to stay at the same hostel. When we got to Clifden we left our packs at the hostel and set off on foot along the Sky Road, a 15km loop track that takes in the coastline north-west of Clifden and includes Connemara Castle. It was a lovely walk and we were accompanied the whole ... read more

I need to come up with some better names for these entries don't I!! Welcome to Ireland where it has rained 60 days straight...luckily it only rains for a little while then the sun comes out, but none the less still worst June/July on record! Like as in EVER!! Are you hearing me people...what happened to Summer. I didn't bring enough warm clothes with me! Ireland is so much better than London and the people are so much nicer and I just love their accent. I can't hear the words three and thirteen enough, it cracks me up everytime! And the kids when they talk is just too cute. I spent 2 days in Dublin which was nice, did the touristy things and went to Temple Bar at night to hear traditional Irish music and mingle ... read more

WOW Ireland. It was Claires choice to come here but boy I'm sure glad she did! It is beautiful. Im still amazed that after all the traveling i've done, the scenery i've seen and architecture i've gawked at, i can still be amazed by a new country. The countries across europe are so completly different from each other. All separte worlds of history. Ive so far experienced Dublin city and Galway. Dublin is wonderful! The Irish people so friendly and helpful, quiet a contrast to the Spanish. We took some timeout the first day to catch Harry Potter at the movies. And then like everywhere in Europe, discovered that Ireland too is having a massive retail sale, so we all went shopping. I had to get another bag to pack all my new stuff and ... read more

OK know im being slack with the 2nd possibly last blog but havent had time or opportunity to write! Began the city of lights (Pary) on a bicycle, wich i hadnt written since i was a young teenager, through the major sights of the city, absolutly great way to get around, bit harrowing with the traffic but survived to tell the blog (went on the last scene of Carrie an Mr Big in SATC on the bridge) an saw the eiffel tower in full sparkle mode on the little river ride. Next day met mum an dad in the train station who i was meeting up with for a couple of days, so was terrific to see them an experience a city with them. After going to their hotel, bit of sleeping envy there!!, explored the ... read more

Hi Everyone, I took the train early this morning from Dublin across Ireland to Galway, about 3 hrs. As I'm sure you imagine, it is very green, very pretty, flat/rolly land; beautiful landscape pictures. The weather is mixed-some rain, cloudy, overcast. The train ride was relaxing. Galway is a very nice smaller city/town-a pedestrian mall, waterfront, pubish, shopping area that was busy with all kinds of people. The hostel was much nicer than the one in Dublin; no matter what, I'm not a city person. I settled in, walked around, met some people from the hostel from the states and chatted. Walked around some more; checked out a few pubs. ... read more

Rachel: Well... we stopped off at Galaway for a quick breather and to see if we can find the internet. Our trip is winding down and only two more nites here in Ireland... Rob: Sigh...only two more days left as we round Galway and move on to the Burrens and the Cliffs of Moher. Had a great day in the Mountains going around the Twelve Pins...at least that's what I think the map called them, and Kylemore Abbey. Then drove out after dinner and had a great veiw of the ocean off the sky road in Clifden. I don't know about Rachel but I'm going to miss this country. Well that's all that I have for now. See ya all soon. ... read more
