The day started with Corey's delicious waffles and maple syrup. We decided since it was a wonderful day outside wouldn't it be nice to spend it inside at a distillery! So off we went both the Corey's and I hopped on the bus to Midleton, a 25 minute bus ride out of Cork. We stopped for lunch at a cafe styled restaurant to re-fuel before we hit the distillery. We walked down the main street taking in this beautiful small Irish town, actually I don't know about the boys but I did. We reached the front gate of the Jameson Distillery and a huge amount of excitement hit my belly! I couldn't wait for the free tastings! We arrived just in time for the next tour, so we quickly browsed the shop gazing at the different ... read more

This awesome Jazz week of October 2011 started with our very first pumpkin carving on the Tuesday 25th. Corey and I were very excited to carve pumpkins for Halloween. Not know what to expect we made our way downstairs to our very good friends Mariah, Corey aka sexy bottoms and Amy's apartment. We cracked some drinks and got the music pumping as we drew our designs on the pumpkins. I was going for a happy pumpkin where Corey went for a more scary looking one. We started to hack into the pumpkins carefully carving around our designs and scooping with out hands the insides of our creations, saving the seeds of course for my room mate Sam's grilled pumpkin seeds - which surprisingly tasted really nice and salty! After a few drinks and more craving we ... read more

After a rush to the bus stop at 9am in the morning after sleeping in from watching an amazing band called Cellar Door from the night before at Cyprus Avenue in Cork we were on our way to Kinsale. We had visited the small seaside town only 2 weeks ago but we desperately wanted to visit Charles Fort! After the 50 minute bus trip and a long read of our Music & Film magazines we were finally there. We walked the small brightly coloured streets that were filled of pubs, cafes, small arty shops and the cliche tourist shops for about an hour with a small pit stop to the supermarket for some late breakfast - which was a delicious sausage roll for me and a minced pie for Corey. After enough discussions and disagreements we ... read more

We decided last night to book another nights accommodation and do a day trip down to Blarney Castle and Cork. We figured if local tours could do it... so could we! We were up at about 8am and left for Blarney/Cork at about 9.30am. We stopped off at a superette to buy some lunch along the way, we have taken to 'make-your-own' lunches which is quite nice. We arrived at Blarney Castle at about 2pm and went straight in. The grounds are massive for this place. It has a castle as well as big walking tracks, gardens, caves and another house where people still live in. We walked up Blarney Castle and on each of the levels we were able to stop and read about what used to be there. There was a place called the ... read more

Day One: San Francisco Why is it that no matter how much time one has to plan and pack for a trip the last day is always a mad scramble to get to the airport? This year we are blessed with Victoria our beautiful volunteer chauffer who gets us to the gates on time. A celebratory glass of wine, a stroll to pre-stretch out our legs to get ready for a 10 hour flightand we are up in the air right on time. By 7PM we are above the golden pink clouds and rolling fog: the Golden Gate Bridge peaks out, and we are on our way. Let me tell you straight up that Premium Economy Class ROCKS! And it's not just the leg room—we actually have some—there is the sparking wine before take-off, the hot ... read more

Geo: 51.7064, -8.5233Woke up once last night, but at least it wasn't 2:00 a.m. It's so quiet here, and my room was really dark too, so I slept very well. Decent water pressure in the shower this morning, but only about a minute's worth of hot water. It's really amazing how cold cold water can be; it's not invigorating either: it's shocking! There were plenty of choices for breakfast, including scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with cheese, scrambled eggs with fish, and several fish dishes. I opted for the buffet and just got soda bread, cheese and a rolled up crepe thingy that had ham in it. Tasty. We all met at 9:00 to go on our walking tour of the town with Don Herlihy. We walked essentially the same route we walked last night with Declan, mainly because ... read more

Geo: 51.7064, -8.5233Woke up at 2:00 a.m. again, but I got back to sleep fairly quickly. Also, I did not spot any more vicious eight-legged monsters. Phew! We left the hotel at 8:30 to start our journey around Ireland. Our bus driver's name is John Scott, and so far he doesn't seem to have a lot of personality, but he's nice enough. (In fact, when we got to Kinsale and he took everyone's bags off the bus, he put up all the handles so we could just start rolling. I thought that was a nice touch.) The Irish bus is different from the European buses I've had on tour before. The seats do not have footrests or net pockets, nor are there seatback trays, which is too bad because I used to use downtime on the ... read more

Driving in Ireland is different kind of rush. Thoughts start spinning around your brain like, "How hard can a right turn be?" to "How the hell do I get around this round-about thing?" to "A couple inches and I would have taken off that guys mirror!". Sadly, I only survived a grand total of 20 minutes driving into Cork the next day and had to relinquish the job to my sister, who actually had experience driving in Europe. So we shifted the seats around in our little CRV and I became the unofficial navigator. Turns out I'm actually pretty good at it. Bring a good map and always be 1 step ahead of your driver when you navigate in Ireland or anywhere that you're not used to driving. When you drive into a city like Cork ... read more

After our 16 hour bus trip to Cork we arrived at 11am and headed from the bus stop to our apartment with no idea where we were going!! After a 5 miniute walk we spotted our street and our apartment building! I could feel the butterflies in my tummy and the thoughts going through my mind thinking that this is real!!! After a 20 minute wait we finally got in contact with the landlord Alicia who showed us up into our apartment! We were the first to arrive so we had the place to ourselves! Which was good for a change! It was alot better than sharing a room with 8 other people! After dumping our bags and a well needed shower we headed to the supermarket - Tesco where we grabbed some essentials to get ... read more
