Day 20 I got up around 9:30am, logged onto Skype and found my boyfriend online! It was about 12midnight for him, but I made him stay up till about 1:30am with me :P I missed him so much and there was a lot to catch up on. Once he went to bed, I got some chili leftovers heated for sloppy joe sandwiches for me and Isabelle for lunch. We had it with cheese and it was delicious!! After lunch we decided to go into town and do some slow-walking souvenir shopping, since her knee was still not 100% yet. So we changed and ventured out with Lisa and Esther at about 11am. We lost those two because Isabelle and I were walking at a much slower pace, but we got tons of souvenir shopping done! I ... read more

Day 19: First Rainy Day in Kefalonia I had a nice sleep-in day; woke up at 10am well-rested and ready for a slow day. I slowly got out of bed, changed, and had some breakfast. Isabelle came down around 10:15 saying she couldn’t walk very well so she wouldn’t be coming with Lisa and I grocery and souvenir shopping because her knee was acting up for some reason. So I wished her a quick recovery and Lisa, Jenn and I left at 10:30 to do some grocery shopping. It looked like a gloomy day so I wore a t-shirt and jeans; it was still warm but looked like it might start to rain. Once we started walking, luck would have it that it started to rain then pour! So I bought an umbrella (I forgot to ... read more

Day 18: Argostoli I got up at 6:20am this morning, even earlier than a school day!!! But it was worth it because we were going to Argostoli! We met up with everyone (13 of us) at the apartment stairs and headed to the bakery before we walked to the bus stop (less than 10m away from the bakery). One girl went to the ATM to take out money, and we were suppose to meet her at the bakery; but the bus pulled up while we were at the bakery doors, so in a panic we bolted for the bus. We all made it, except for the girl at the bank. At the bus we asked if it went to Argostoli, and the bus driver signaled us to jump in. Fortunately, the bus looped around and made ... read more

Day 17 I think I’m getting used to the early mornings; I’ve been getting up a few minutes before my alarm, but I don’t get out of bed till it rings. I give myself a few minutes more of sleep; I’m used to waking up but I’m still tired! And I’ve been getting hungry at 7am now, so I think my body’s getting used to the change too. Unfortunately I didn’t judge my time very well and took about 15 minutes to hangup my laundry outside; the cold air in my apartment didn’t let my clothes dry very well so I had to take them down, hang the string outside and re-hang them all on the line. By that time I hadn’t had breakfast yet, so I scarfed my yogurt and cereal down, packed my lunch ... read more

Day 16 Our prof delayed our meeting time this morning because a lot of them stayed at the bar for a while longer than my group did. So I had time to skype with my boyfriend and sister at 8am, have a leisurely breakfast and meet at the docks for 9:30am. It started to rain as we walked down to the bus, but it was still a nice and casual day; we stopped by at the hardware store to pick up more handpicks, hand brushes, gloves, knee pads and other site tools/necessities. By the time we got to our site, the rain had stopped. We unpacked the storage shed, set up the chairs and got our sites ready for the day’s dig. Everyone was a little slower and mellow today since we had all gone out ... read more

Day 15 At 6:50am I woke up, got ready for the day (sunscreen, lunch, shoes and all), then met up with everyone at the bottom of our apartment stairs. It was our prof’s birthday that day and we had all pitched in and bought him 2 apple pies in celebration. So the plan was to meet at the stairs all together and walk down to the docks singing ‘Happy Birthday’ when he was in earshot. He was surprised and pretty choked that we did that and he started to blush. It was a nice reception and we brought the cake with us to the site. At 10:30am, our regular break time, we had lunch and the pies as desert. Our prof went back for 2nds and there was still a giant piece left! We saved a ... read more

Day 14 Again, I woke up at the usual 6:50am, got ready, ate breakfast then headed down to the docks for our dig. We had to wait for this one girl whose alarm never woke her up; she was about 25mins late, but my prof wasn’t too mad and we left the dig site at 1pm as usual. It was a good dig day; we go into our own trenches and started to remove the topsoil. In our trench there’s quite a bit of boulders, roots and ant-hills, but it was pretty fun and we got through a lot of the work (in our 1x5m starting line). By 1pm we were pretty tired and dirty, but we had had a good work out. Driving back to Poros, Vasili did a stop by the shops so we ... read more

Day 13 (Sunday, Sept 19) Since the glass bottom boat trip was sold out, the day started out leisurely again and stress-free. I got up around 10am and skyped my boyfriend again. He was just about to get to bed…considering it was about 12midnight for him. When I got changed, Lisa came knocking and asked if I wanted to go down to study with everyone at Pantelli’s. The plan was to go down, grab some breakfast and study Greek; but the Greek work wasn’t very successful. I had yogurt with honey and fruit (kiwi, nectarine, banana and apple) and it was delicious! Once we broke open our books and laptops (Pantelli’s is an internet café too), then the servers came by to try and give us a hand with our remedial grammar exercises. Of course, sitting ... read more

Day 12 I skyped my family and boyfriend at about 7am, then went back to sleep till 10. I was pretty tired from the week and needed a good sleep. When I woke up again, I went onto the patio to see if Lisa was awake and take down my swim stuff (we’ve been going to the beach for a good few hours everyday so far!); luckily she was awake, so we decided to get ready for the day and grab Isabelle and Jen. We all went down to grab some filo pastry lunch at the bakery, while stopping by some souvenir shops along the way. I bought some souvenirs for my extended family and my mom; I hope she likes it because I sure do! At the bakery I had a cheese pie which is ... read more

Day 11 This morning I skyped my family and boyfriend at about 7am my time and got ready for the day. We met at the docks at 9am and Vasili drove us to Assos. It was about an hour drive. Once we got there, our prof showed us where the restaurants, bathrooms and souvenir shops were, and also motioned to us where approximately the Venetian castle was. We all first took bathroom breaks, then 5 of us decided to venture out to see the castle. Apparently it has only recently been opened to the public, so admission was free. The only catch was that it was about a 2.8km walk up to get to the fortress walls! (which we didn’t know until we came back down.) On our way up some Austrians ran past us; all ... read more
