Day 58 It was really rough waking up this morning since we went to bed late last night. I had a hard time getting out of bed, because today was the first day where I didn’t wake up uncomfortably warm in bed; I haven’t turned on my heater, but spots in the floor are heated and makes our whole place feel summer. So being so at ease in bed was a nice change, but made it even harder to get out of bed. Regardless, I did, changed, then waited for the bathroom and changed. I got my stuff together when Isabelle came in and we had breakfast; we’re eating up the rest of my yogurt before we buy any more, I’ve got the cereal and she supplies the honey and cinnamon. Yesterday we shared one of ... read more

Day 57 Today was the first dig day in a while, so I got up at 6:35am, changed, washed up, got lunch together and Isabelle came over to steal some breakfast since she just got back last night. We left just before 7:30 and met the group at the docks. Everyone but one guy showed up and we were almost a complete group (for once)! The dig went smoothly; it was mostly cloudy all day with bits of sun popping in. I wore shorts because my bug bites are still itchy, but it wasn’t the warmest day. We got bits of sunshine and almost hot weather as we dug, but Ada and I were digging deep bulks in a big space so we had a lot of soil to move and got warmed up really fast. ... read more

Day 56: The Last Month in Poros This morning I woke up to my alarm at 8:55am, washed up and Jenn came over. We tried calling Lisa up but she was passed out from the sleeping meds she took last night and said to go without her. So the two of us walked to Neil and Gioria’s for breakfast with eggs, kiwi, banana, tomato and cheese in hand. We go there just past 9am and he started cooking right away. We started the morning off with savory cheese, tomato and bacon crepes, then finished our meal off with a banana, nutella and kiwi crepe each. It was delicious and very satisfying. After that Jenn and I helped do the dishes, then walked back to our place to rest for an hour before we went out for ... read more

Day 55: Halloween This morning I got up at 8am, I couldn’t sleep any longer, and with the time-change I gained an extra hour of sleep! I skyped with my boyfriend for a little while, until 9am, when Jenn came up and we left for Neil’s. He was making us French toast for breakfast and I supplied the eggs. We were the first to arrive, then Lisa came after spending the night at Jerry’s, and Gioria woke up. We waited for about half an hour for Geoffrey, then started frying them up. He made them with eggs, cream, nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar, so we didn’t even miss not having maple syrup, which Geoffrey was suppose to bring but never showed up. Regardless, breakfast was delicious and Neil invited us over for crepes for breakfast tomorrow morning. ... read more

Day 54: 26km Walk to Skala This morning I got up just past 8:30am, washed up and changed, then logged on to skype with my boyfriend before he went to bed and I left for my day-walk. I had breakfast as we spoke so I could digest it properly before the walk. I also boiled an egg, sliced oranges in soccer slices, packed a 1.5L water bottle, granola bars and my camera for the day’s trip. At 10am I met Jenn and Mae downstairs; Ryan was hungover, Joe was too tired, Steph was too busy and lazy to come out, and Sara bailed because she had scholarship applications to start and due in 2 days. So it was just us 3 girls, it was a nice and small group. We headed out and Penny, our golden ... read more

Day 53 I slept in till about 10am, then got ready for a run with Sara B, Jenn, Steph, Mae and Joe for 11:30. We ran up and around the Oceanis Hotel, for a change of scenery from yesterday, got a little lost but found our tracks again. It’s all residential so we were never really lost, just disoriented. We got back close to 1:30pm, and Jenn came over to have the leftover pizza, that I brought home from last night, for lunch with me. After that we met the same group for grocery shopping, since I had planned to make chicken pot pie with Sara, Lisa and Jenn tonight. I got a little souvenir shopping along the way with the group, and unfortunately it was so close to siesta time that we only got to ... read more

Day 52: Ochi Day This morning I got up close to 8:30/9am. The power was out and the cleaning lady started on my floor, so I got up, dressed, washed up and got some breakfast together. She came in and I took my juice outside while she cleaned, since I didn’t want to sit in the dark while she cleaned and our kitchen/common room area isn’t big enough for too much hustle and bustle. Close to 10am the power kicked in again, while the power was out I started to read more of my book, ‘The Odyssey’, which I haven’t touched since I got off the plane. Today was ‘Ochi Day’, where the Greek leader said ‘no’ to Mussolini’s invasion. He didn’t win the entire battle but he did win this one for a short time. ... read more

Day 51 I woke up at 10am this morning because we were granted a rain day and the dig was cancelled. Instead we did more pottery washing, even though the weather took a turn for the best and was sunny up until 1pm. Isabelle came over for breakfast and we headed down to class together (for the last time in October!). My group had to stay later than the others because we were 1 man short (Ada took a sick day), and we have a lot more pottery than other groups. We left just before 1pm and it was pouring rain! I was the only one with an umbrella so we huddled together and walked back to the apartments. When I got home, Isabelle was on her computer in my kitchen (as usual) and I quickly ... read more

Day 50 This morning I got up just after 6:30am; it was really hard to wake up and I really didn’t want to go digging today. But I pushed through and got all my stuff together. I chatted on skype with my sister and boyfriend for a little bit, while Isabelle came over for breakfast and we got ready for the day. I boiled us eggs for lunch, like yesterday since we haven’t gone grocery shopping because of our Athens trip and the weather’s been too dreary to venture out into town after the dig, and I packed crackers and my last orange for my lunch. We left our place just before 7:30, and made it down in time. There was only about 10-13 of us, and the rest of our group, 2 girls out of ... read more

Day 49: Monday October 25, 2010 We got up this morning at 6:30am, I went back to my room, boiled 2 eggs, one for each of us for lunch, and changed for the day. Isabelle and Jenn came for breakfast; we’re trying to finish Isabelle’s yogurt in the next few days because it’s close to expiring, so we ate up my first box of cereal with her honey, cinnamon and yogurt. We left for the dig, I packed an apple, cookies and the eggs for lunch. I figured it would have to last us until we had time to go grocery shopping, maybe after the dig today? And I also packed an entire roll of toilet paper, that was given to me at the hostel after my bubbly-nose fiasco, and I kept for the ride back ... read more
