Hello all I"ve finally arrived in athens after a bit of a horrific trip. 3 missed flights and an overall delay of 10 hours....so lots of sitting around, lots of stress and not alot of sleep...and lost luggage...so now that that is over, hopefully my luggage will show up shortly and things can only get better. The hostel is very nice and if you are ever in athens definitely check out athens backpackers....great little place.... now i'm off on my next adventure of finding the bus station and getting to tragana where I will spend the next 2 months...weeee It will be nice to be in a "home" and out of this transtition mode.... that's all for now HIllary ... read more

Hi all We very sadly left Santorini yesterday morning (at some ungodly hour) after our R&R break, which we lapped up!! Santorini is my favourite place on the planet, apart from home, and is famous for its sunsets! Arrived in Athens and set off on foot to check out the Acropolis, Olympic Stadium (from original Olympics), changing of the guards at both the Presidents house and Parliament House and the Plaka area which is the old town. Had a great time last night, decided we should get into Greek dancing for our last night in Greece. We found a restaurant which had dinner and show, but had a Yeeros downtown then on to the show. Yesterday we didn't have too early of a day. We got off the ship around 8 am and went to try and fetch a taxi. Getting at taxi at the port is not fun because everyone wants to try and screw the tourist by charging and arm and a leg and still expects some haggling. All the drivers also wanted to give us a tour, but we didn't want a tour. Finally we found someone who was willing to take all of us in his cab. It was not a comfortable ride at all and once we had been in it for a little while he decided he was going to increase the amount he was charging us by 15 Euros. Not cool. Steve (my bf at the time), Alice (Steve's sister) and I took a fabulous 25 day trip to Greece ! We planned the trip so that we would split our time between an islands vacation and time to spend with Steve and Alice’s family who live in Greece . Our flight landed in Athens and we spent 2 days there, took a ferry to Ios for 4 days and took another ferry to Santorini for 4 days. We then flew from Santorini to Salonika in the north of Greece and rented a car to drive to the village of Mikrokastro , where Steve and Alice’s maternal relatives live.
