Alright, so I don't know when Jen wrote that blog entry but I don't think I made it home in the "hour" she thought I was going to. Let's just say the travel adventures didn't stay in Italy. First, let me tell you a little about our last day in Italy. So we were staying in Rome, but since we had seen everything already we wanted to go to Pompei so see the ancient city, one of the most well preserved of the Roman Ruins. The ancient city was destroyed in the first century when Mt. Vesuvius errupted and bascially [View Full Entry]

Until we found the best restaurant ever, and they only charged us for one meal! PLUS, they put on special music for us AND gave us free cookies. They liked us. We also got asked out by 2 guys to go for some beers at McDonalds....classy. We declined. Shocking, I know. We opted for chocolate cake and amazing yogurt at the campsite. So, the original plan was to visit Pompeii today. Those plans were foiled by the terrible transportation system of Rome. You would think that in a city the size of Rome, the bus would come more than once [View Full Entry]

Traveling...
Ferry Ride

By Jen and Laura
June 16th 2007
I spoke too soon! Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
After the most boring ferry ride ever we made our way to the train station in Ancona, which happened to be about a 2km walk . . . keep in mind we have all of our stuff and I swear my pack is 10lbs. heavier now than it was when I started! We get there and walk right up to the ticket counter and tell the man behind the counter we want to go to Sorrento. He never asks for clarification just repeasts back to us something along the lines of Sorrento with an Italian accent, I say again, "Sorrento" and [View Full Entry]

My point of view...by Jen Sigh, we are in Rome. We have deviated from our original plans. We were scheduled to be in Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast in Italy. But we are in Rome. I HATE Rome. So, we have been traveling for a few days now. We took an overnight ferry from Santorini to Athens. Hopped on a train from Athens to Patras (port city for traveling from Italy to Greece). Then we took an overnight ferry from Patras to Anacona, which is in Italy. Then we again, planned to hop on a train and head to Sorrento, which [View Full Entry]

Santorini
Red Beach
Chocolate Cake!

(that title is for you, dad!!--Mr. English Teacher) Yesterday we went ATV-ing, in case you don't know what that means, it means we went 4-wheeling all over the gorgeous island of Santorini. We spent the day with a Canadian and 2 Texans. Fun times all around. We went to Red Beach, saw White Beach, Kamari Beach, Fira, Oia, AND we went wine tasting. 4 wheeling was super fun. Acutally, it was awesome (says Laura:)). Red beach, was cool, all the seaweed had washed ashore and dried out; if felt like we were walking on a carpet. We also had lunch [View Full Entry]

Lunch with a view

up until this point in our trip, my expectations of what this trip would look like were completely off. in italy, we spent more time running from sight to sight, and less time meeting new people. because we camped, we were somewhat secluded from the rest of the 'hosteling world.' but here it is different. Greece has been more of our relax and have lots of fun (not that we didnt have fun in italy, because we totally did, but it was very different) part of our trip. we sleep in, stay up late (nightlife doesnt shut down around here. Mykonos [View Full Entry]

So here we are about a week before we head home and I'm finally used to the whole live-out-of-a-backpack, sleep-in-a-different-bed every couple nights, and wear-the-same-5-shirts deal. It's officially life instead of a vacation . . . wierd!! Santorini and Greece in general are great! Very different from our whirlwind tour of Italy. Since the beginning of this trip I had the Italy travel book and Jen had the Greece one, I think that may have something to do with why we saw a TON of stuff while we were in Italy and we are relaxing in Greece. :) Jen and [View Full Entry]

You sure can and we got 'em! :) :) This place is beautiful, sandy/pebbly beaches, clear blue water and white washed houses. Yes it is beautiful, but there are a few things that de-tractions from it's beauty: #1: it's a nude beach . . . not just a topless beach . . . a nude beach (read old men with beer gut and other things hanging out. ew!!) We stayed clear of that "area" #2: It's one of the top Gay beaches in Greece #3: Every traveling North American (read high maintenance, party sorority girl) visits this beach, and puts [View Full Entry]
