So my girlfriend has gone back to Panama and I finally have a plan, visas and an itinerary, at least for the first 2 months. I will fly to Ethiopia (via Dubai) on November 2nd with my good friend Panos, who will accompany me there for 4 weeks. Then I'll fly to Tanzania, where I will stay for three weeks. On the way bak I will be shown around Dubai by two friends who live and work there. I will have to work during Xmas and New Year's in Peru, Bolivia and Chile, but I'll have 5 free months to travel around after that, during which I will probably visit New Zealand, Tokelau, Samoa, Japan and China, hopefully with a stop in Panama and perhaps Venezuela. Let's see how this works out. All I know is ... read more

Athens, like a titillating treat savored for a moment on the traveler’s cycle. It’s a city oozing with the sweets of today’s past, circumnavigating the present world; and with continuous force, persisting to inspire the evolution of mankind. Locked in a prison of Socrates’ mind, the city is that grain of rice, that morsel of bread, that last lick of ice cream to those who choose to linger and explore the many flavors of Athens. From the headaches of navigating the souvenir shops within the alleys of Plaka, through to the markets of Monastiraki and into the culture of the Athenian as Omonia Square revolves into the urban sprawls of various ethnicities. To savor Athens for as many grains, as many loaves, for as many licks of experience as possible is one to leave the insatiable ... read more

I am still in the process of formulating my itinerary. It was originally supposed to be 9 months with the following route: Ethiopia-Kenya-Tanzania-Iran-Turkmenistan-China-Japan-Myanmar-NZ-Samoa-Tokelau-Colombia-Venezuela Since I met this Panamanian lady, the plans have changed a bit, I won't be leaving till Nov 1st, which means a couple of countries weill have to be rejected. The Latin American part will probably have to be tranferred after Africa, as I will have to go back to Cuba for work over Xmas and New Year's. I think I will have exact dates by the end of the week. Meanwhile, here's a photo of the Panamanian goddess. Yorgos... read more

The little Aussie battlers Nad and Ped left London (after their North American and Jamaican legs of the big trip) a little tired and hungover but after a few gyros' for breakfast, lunch and dinner they soon warmed to the Mediteranian sun and were up and about seeing all sorts of ruined buildings. The hospitality of the Greeks is well known and the young couple took no time getting stuck into the wine and local beer "Mythos". End result = "It was nice"... read more

Hi everyone! We know that you have been waiting to see our next blog so here it is...enjoy! The riot police heard we were coming to Athens and they were ready for us! They wouldnt even let us down the road so that we could see the Acropolis! Little do they know that we are smart people and we just went on the bus a different way!!! Seeing the Acropolis and theatre of Dionysis was as amazing as we had imagined and hoped it to be. It is a great feeling to be amongst buildings that we have been looking at in pictures for so long. We had tried to catch a taxi there but we couldnt work out how you get one to stop and pick you up! We soon worked out that you just ... read more

So, Again, it's been a while since i've had a chance to update this blog, but I can assure you, i'm alive and well and well travelled at this point. So, where to begin. We've been doing the usual route, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Italy again...you know...it actually gets a bit boring, I can't believe I say things like...'what, we're in Livorno(Pisa/Florence) again...weren't we just here...I wish it could be Rhodes or somewhere with a beach...' This is what it's like to be spoiled when travelling too many times to the same ports over and over again. I'm getting quite excited because since I'll be getting off at the end of next cruise in Barcelona, flying to London, hoping to meet a friend there and then I head off to Paris to kick off a well ... read more

We began our trip to Greece by getting up at 3:30 am to catch our 6:00 am flight. This was followed by a 60 Euro ($100) cab ride to the airport that I don’t think I have quite gotten over! So anyways we arrived in Athens around noon local time and were greeted by + 30 degrees weather. Being from Manitoba +30 in October seemed truly unnatural. We found our way into the city and to our hostel easy enough, got settled in and went straight out to start some sight seeing. Our first stop after the tourist office was heading straight for the Acropolis. It was very hot and it was quite the climb to the top but it was worth it. Seeing the Parthenon up close was cool (even though it was covered in ... read more

Figs ripe and taken to gravity remained like impermanent fossils upon coarse stone steps. Their seeds lay scattered under foot, a purple skin flattened as an insect on the windshield of a desert crossing. Leafy boughs and thick trunks rose from the neighboring courtyards. Wrought-iron fences above waist-high walls bordered the properties’ perimeters. And in the early morning, few wanderers searched for the entrance around the base of the Acropolis. There were only the slanted sun, the cool air and the stirring noises in Europe’s oldest city. Tucked through small Turkish alleys, I searched in an area of Athens known as Plaka. I had arrived via ferry from Rhodes. Considering the 430 km distance, the fourteen-hour journey from sunset to sunrise was a quick sleep beneath a row of seats. Albeit, within the first hour in ... read more
