What about me? Ok, I'm a canadian boy born and bred in a northern mining community called Sudbury...nickel capital of the world and the world's tallest smoke stack...then moved to the T-Dot (toronto for those not in the know) when I was 20. I went to college and then worked in Corporate sales for 7 years...then got out because of the bullsh*t. I have been working as a server in a high end casual restaurant called Milestones...it's a chain from BC, and I love it. The idea to travel the world came to me after my Mom died of breast cancer a year ago(2005)...and figured that life is something we should really cherish and live everyday...and make it an adventure. So, I will be leaving March 30th, 2006 for my biggest adventure yet...my trip around the world which begins in London. I'll be doing a bit of work along the way...working on a Princess Cruise Line for 6months along the way...but that also involves some travel...and making lots of cuba libre's I'm sure (it's a rum & coke btw)...

I don't really think I realise what I'm getting into...but it'll be interesting to say the least. I hope that my future postings and observations will be somewhat funny or at least informative...if they're not...then remember that I'm on vacation and you're most likely at work...so who's laughing now...

Cheers,

Neil

So, Again, it's been a while since i've had a chance to update this blog, but I can assure you, i'm alive and well and well travelled at this point. So, where to begin. We've been doing the usual route, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Italy again...you know...it actually gets a bit boring, I can't believe I say things like...'what, we're in Livorno(Pisa/Florence) again...weren't we just here...I wish it could be Rhodes or somewhere with a beach...' This is what it's like to be spoiled when travelling too many times to the same ports over and over again. I'm getting quite excited because since I'll be getting off at the end of next cruise in Barcelona, flying to London, hoping to meet a friend there and then I head off to Paris to kick off a well ... read more

Hi everyone, I'm really sorry for not having written for such a long time, but it has been a very busy few months on ship, along with the fact that I can't log in from the crappy internet cafe on the ship. Anyway, Europe is amazing, and I highly recommend coming here ASAP if you're thinking of it....there are just so many things to see and experience. Things that I've recently seen that have amazed me...Rome...all of it, it's just one amazing work of art, architecture and fashion all one after the other, it's just too much to take in one day...which is why I've been there 3 times now. Also, watching a tiny volcanic island off the coast of Italy at 2am erupting like a fireworks display on Canada day, along with burst of flame ... read more

Wow, I didn't realize how long it has been since I last posted anything. I have to really sit here and think of everything that I've done so far...I'll try my best and if I miss anything, I'll mention it later. Well, I've been to Pisa and seen the leaning tower, I will have to say that it's much smaller than I had imagined, but it was still impressive all the same. I did resist taking the really cheesy photo which everyone takes there. Position yourself just right, and you can make it look like your helping push the tower up on your own. The funnies thing is to take pictures of these people without the tower in view...they look like a bunch of idiots. I did however lay out on the park lawn next to ... read more

It's been a while since I last wrote an entry, and I'm sorry for keeping you waiting in suspense. We have now crossed the Atlantic ocean and the weather was quite good and the boat didn't rock too much. I finally got off the ship in Gibralter, a British colony on a peninsula attached to Spain and only 8km from the coast of Africa, you can see it just across the channel. It was an amazing day (ok, only 3.5hrs, but it was still amazing). It's known as 'The Rock', since it has this very tall and sharp cliff face which is full of monkeys. I avoided the usual tourist traps as all the passengers from the ship would be visiting the same places...I needed to get away from them for a while. I just strolled ... read more

Hey there, I hope that everyone back home is doing well and enjoying seeing land everywhere they go. Don't take this for granted, please. I've been at sea now for 4 days straight, and although it's been great so far, I do miss the feeling of being stationary and on solid ground. We've been having great weather since we left Florida, and we are now heading over to Casablanca in Morroco with a stop in Medera (Portuguese Island). The sea has been quite calm and I'm quite thankful for it. I will have to say that we have to change the clock one hour forward every evening until we get to Europe, so it's cutting down on my sleep time, which is already cut short when I've been in the crew bar until 4am every night ... read more

Hi all, I'm really sorry for not writing sooner, but it's been a crazy 4 days since I left Heathrow airport. I finally had some good luck on the plane ride over to Chicago, I had a 2 sear section to myself, and I swear I've been taking showers daily, so it's not because they didn't want to put someone near me. I gave out some mini-chocolate bars to the flight attendants, and it was basically just to be nice to them, since they have a pretty tough job. before we landed one of them dropped a bottle of Brut in my lap, a small gift from the crew. I think I'm going to keep it for my 30th B-Day coming up in July. Anyway, I was going against the clock coming back, so I was ... read more

Hi all, My last day in Budapest was just relaxing with nothing exciting that went on. I was going to go a traditional Turkish bath and try that out, but when I got to the building, I was more in the mood to explore the city, so I did just that. I ended up walking the length of the Danube River, which is getting higher every day. At one point this thing is going to recede and reveal the entire 4 lane street and pedestrian walkway to the world, but right now, those are lost in a sea of water. It started to rain in the city today, so after satisfying my urge to explore with no new discoveries, I headed back to the hostel and ended up going out for dinner with a few other ... read more

Hello all, Since my last update, I finally had my luggage arrive, but then the same night I got a case of mild food poisoning that kept me up all night. So I guess I take the good with the bad. After not getting a good night's sleep, I decided it would be time for me to just relax and visit the mineral baths and relax. To be honest, I didn't really have much energy to do much other than just float around in water. It turned out to be the best thing I could have done...since this Cancerean is a happy boy when he gets into a pool. The building again was this vast, antique concrete wonder with too many artistic details to mention, and it brought you back to a time when all people ... read more

So, I asked my hostel pals to call the delivery service here at the Budapest Airport to find out where my luggage was...it was still in Frankfurt apparently, on the second day after I arrived. Apparently, the planes were too 'full' to take on my single, solitary backpack. I should have known this would be the case after reading the Luthansa baggage claim letter stating...'after 5 days, if you have not received your luggage, please contact our head office my mail....'. 5DAys!!! wow, it looks like they put a priority on this kind of thing. Anyway...I'm still happy and chilling here in Budapest. So I basically did some more walking around the city, this time in the opposite direction of my first run, this time towards the famous baths. I actually rode on the original subway ... read more
