I have been to Germany several time and found some of the most interesting places to visit. The people there, for the most part, are very nice. As long as you try to speak the language, you will do fine and the locals don't mind if you make a mistake in your attempts. As long as you try! Some of my greatest memories of my travels have been in Germany. Germany, like many European countries, is a cross between the old country and the new all rolled into one. Something that most people don't know when traveling to Germany, is that in the southern part of the country they speak a different dialect then from the middle and north or even east and west for that matter. But again as long as you try, you’ll do ... read more

My first foreign trip was a school trip, after years of only doing UK trips to see usually relatives and often in Scotland this was by comparison very exciting. Bus from Banchory to Hull then the 'Norsun' ferry over to Rotterdamn. Drove thorugh Holland and deep into Germany to town of Bad Salzig on the banks of the Rhine. Included cruises on the Rhine and a trip to Phantasialand. It would be a decade before I made another foreign trip but at least I got to leave the UK and get a bit of a feel for a different culture.... read more

UK & Europe, May 1993 Return trip to Germany! Only two weeks ago we were in Bavaria on business, now we were back again and would be seeing other parts of Germany. We seemed to have rejuvenated our energy and set forth with vigour. Maybe it was the Rhine cruise that revived us. Such a pity it was only for a few hours and not a couple of days, but it gave us a taste of what it's like - beautiful scenery all around with some interesting towns that we saw from afar and once again we felt that it would be wonderful to return one day and tour through Europe at leisure. In Munich I could show Paul a bit of what I saw when I went there on my own for the day, while ... read more

Europe and United Kingdom Trip - May 1993 Family and everyday life took over for a while until we could combine a business trip with a holiday in Europe and visit family in the UK. This was the REAL thing! I was going to places that I had only seen before in photographs of other family members travels. A lifetime opportunity for us that we thought we would never have again. But I was torn between excitement and torment. This time I would be the one leaving someone behind - our young sons of about 9 & 7. It would be for an entire month. When I look back, I cannot believe I did that! Fortunately my sister, who sacrificed so much to do it, could look after them, and there is no one else I ... read more

Hello my fellow travelers! This is the first and only post I'll make about a trip to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein in July 1992 that I did together with my Parents, my uncle Roland and his wife Marie, my aunt Marianne, her husband Sven and their daughter Jenny. Despite travelling through five countries I only have two locations from which I have identifiable photos. The first of these is Schönwald im Schwarzwald which is a small town located in the south of Germany. There isn't much of note in this town as far as I can remember, except for the general plethora of delicious steakhouses of course. It is however the birthplace of the cuckoo clock which was invented by Franz Ketterer in 1730. I have very few memories of this place, mainly I ... read more
