The day after returning from Berlin Belinda and I headed off to the island of Föhr. By car it takes about three hours to get to the town of Dagebüll where the ferry departs from. We had decided not to take the car to the island because it would have been very expensive, so we parked the car at a large parking and caught the shuttle bus to the ferry terminal. We were so early that we still had enough time to have a quick lunch with some real Northern German beer: Flensburger, one of my favourites. The ferry ride took about an hour and we arrived on the island in the kind of weather that is so characteristic of the area: The sky was grey, it was very windy, and from time to time it ... read more

Today we start what is a long journey across Denmark through Germany,Holland,Belgium to get to Connelles near Giverny,France where we have a couple of nights before taking Peggy back to Peugeot and flying off to Ireland for a week. We aren’t attempting to do this journey of over 1500km in a day but rather with two stops along the way making it three days of driving. The day has dawned, like yesterday, beautifully fine and sunny although we expect that won’t last and the ‘typical European summer day of 2016’will return before long. And dark clouds were soon to roll over the BBA V3! It was a typical start to the start, breakfast first and a cleanup of the place as we do before we depart for the next overnight stop. As usual we went through ... read more

Today is going to be all about a dash across Germany all the way to just short of the Danish border. We were a little more with it this morning and Wim and Diny were ready with the coffee (Wim is great at coffee making!)and huge slices of raisin bread crammed full of fruit (None of your skimpy Tiptop bread in Holland) for breakfast. We watched a bit of BBC with breakfast as England wondered what had happened to their football team against a team they considered easybeats.Although I must say the man in the street reaction is not quite as bad as one would see when the All Blacks lose to weaker opposition even though this happened for quite some years. So the football result together with the Brexit vote outcome now starting to hit ... read more

Today's final comedy word: Erklärungsnot (n.): This is nothing to do with a running nose but the state of having to quickly explain yourself.Erklärungsnot (lit. Emergency explanation) refers to the exact moment you are caught with your hand in the till and forced to think on your feet. Unless you're a good liar, the results of Erklärungsnot are usually unbelievable and silly, like the old favourite: "My dog ate my homework" Only use this excuse if: a) you have a dog and b) he's a bit partial to Maths or History GCSE coursework!! From St Petersburg we headed straight down the Baltic. The day after St. Petersburg was a day at sea or as they refer on board, a navigation day. We did see land briefly around tea time. This would have been the Swedish Island ... read more

... read more

It was now getting time to leave Sweden and head to the southern shore of the Baltic, and then leave the Baltic through the Kiel Canal. Our last stop was an overnight in Sandhamn, Sweden which was a very laid back stop. It was nicely situated on our trek south and offered a very well protected harbor. We will be sorry to leave Sweden as it has been an enjoyable stay, but time is marching on and we plan to over-winter Tsamaya in Lelystad in the Netherlands so must keep moving. We had a very good weather window for our crossing passing the southern coast of Sweden and across the Baltic heading for Heilgenhafen, Germany. We had been there earlier in the season shortly after entering the Baltic so knew it was a comfortable distance to ... read more
