If someone had told me a year ago that I would be living in Germany in a few short months I would have looked at this person and said "Really? Awesome." I had been looking for work abroad for some months and it was about time something came up! Anywho, my move to Northern Germany was swift. I was interviewed, offered a position and relocated in about a month and a half. It was my first "real job," I had very little experience and I had not spoken a work of German in my life. I had never even heard of Kiel until I got an e-mail asking for an interview. I hadn't even remembered I had applied for a position there! But here I am, doing what I've always wanted. I have wonderful students, I've ... read more

Saturday evening in Rendsburg, Germany and I am writing this sitting at the kitchen table at Gabi and Christine’s house after a day at the beach in Germany……..a day at the beach with a difference compared to a day at the beach in NZ. Anyway I’d better start from yesterday which was a very early start in Paris as we had to be at Paris North railway station at 5.40am for our 6am train to Germany. Up at 4am to shower etc and complete packing as the taxi we had booked was due at 5.15am and with the cases etc. to get down 5 flights of stairs it was going to be a two trip mission at least. We tried to be very quiet as we got ready but at 4.45am there was a knock on ... read more

Deichspaziergang, 13.08.2011. Man muss höllisch aufpassen wo man hintritt. ... read more

Hafenfest in Husum, 12.08.2011. ... read more

Husum, 11.08.2011. ... read more

After a relaxing day cruising through the Kiel Canal, we changed clothes into our Formal wear for the Farewell dinner in the La Fontaine dinning room. Laurieanne had "cooked up" an event for the dinner. Five people (including John) were going to enter the dinning room wearing masks and see what the reaction would be. I was the official photographer for the event. Laurieanne had previously bought the masks at the Vasa Museum in Stockholm. So we met in the lounge outside the dinning room and they, Barb, Jean, Lynn, John and Laurieanne got their masks on. I took the required pictures and we all entered with me taking pictures along the way. The reaction was laughing and exclaiming!! Everyone liked the masks and enjoyed the laughter. Then we sat down and had a lovely dinner ... read more

Right after breakfast, I went up to the top deck to view and take pictures of the approach to the Kiel Canal. There were already people (with chairs) along the rail so I found a space and took pictures between people. The whether was good - clear and sunny. The Kiel Canal, the world's busiest artificial waterway, links the North Sea with the Baltic Sea. An average of 250 nautical miles are saved by using the Kiel Canal instead of the way around the Jutland Peninsula. During its building stages, naval strategies were important (the German navy wanted to link its bases in the North Sea with the Baltic Sea instead of having to sail around Denmark) - Today the canal is used for trade between the countries of the Baltic with the rest of the ... read more

PURE EXCITEMENT Time passed quickly and here we are now: excited, nervous and braindead. So much to think about but by now we sorted out almost everything I guess. Backpacks are packed and we 're kinda ready to go. And all three of us can't wait to have the time of our life.... read more

Heya everybody, this is our first blog entry Since it's all three of us who created this blog, we will always type our names above a text, if it's going to be a personal comment or perspective. Here we go. Preparations One week left and then we're off to Southeast Asia. After planning this trip for over half a year now, we managed to get the money together to make our dream become true. We all left Zermatt with mixed feelings: Excitement, pleasant anticipation and already arising longing for beloved people we will leave behind. But I guess the predominant mood is joy at all the adventures and impressions that are waiting for us. Friday the 20th we will meet up at London Heathrow airport. Our flight goes to Jakarta with one stopover in Abu ... read more

Germany - Kiel On the way to Kiel we saw lots of dear more then we have seen any were else they do not look so well I do not think that they are coping with the 2m high snow everywhere. All we have seen for the last few days is snow piled high everywhere we have been. Before we got to our hotel in Kiel we stopped at a supermarket and got some supply getting lots of German food like German sauga, strudel, chocolate, bread and wine. We also got some French wine that we had with dinner. Kiel is on the Baltic Sea. ... read more
