A mi kis birtokunk pont a legszebb ilyn köhordalékos helyen van, tehát éjszaka is hallani a kongó sziklák közt a víz dübörgő ... read more

Hello everyone! I have returned to Germany for another year for all the Pretzels, Beer, Wurst & Sauerkraut! My time back in Australia was well worth it but seemed short while I was out having fun with longtime friends and catching up with family. The flight back was awful! It was a 14hr flight to Abu Dhabi with a guitar, laptop, bag, plus 2 Bundaberg bottles I picked up at Duty Free. Etihad was so much better than China Airlines though, worth the extra $100 or whatever. To all those who I didn't get to see, I'll post more another blog with some funny stories and pictures. How is it to be back in Germany? Well I can still understand German which is good, but jetlag sucks and waking up at 3am, then 4am... then 8am ... read more

This morning we skipped breakfast, checked out of our hotel, and set out early for the drive to Regensburg. During the drive it started POURING rain outside, though luckily it was while we were safe and dry inside the car. It was about a 2 ½ hour drive to Regensburg from Salzburg and we stopped at Pentling (just outside of Regensburg) for gas and breakfast (apple strudel and bad coffee… yum!) before making our way to Europcar to drop off our beautiful (and very fun to drive) Mercedes. So sad to let it go…sigh. The car drop off location was easy to find and only took a few minutes to take care of. They called a taxi for us and then we were off to the city center to check into our hotel ( Eurostars ... read more

I'm just starting to feel as though I know what I'm doing as a language student this week and of course I finish on Thursday. Friday is a public holiday, the 12th Day of Christmas commemorating the visit of the Three Kings to the Christ Child. Student numbers have increased again after the Christmas-New Year holidays. We received a few new students into our class including, for example, a young Italian uni student who needs to improve her German for a difficult exam. So she's here for two weeks. As with all language classes, we must always introduce ourselves to new students , saying where we come from and why we are here. So I have been reflecting on why I am here. The primary reason is the same as before I set out....to improve my German ... read more

I was glad to return to my cosy room at the Horizonte Language school, tucked away in the centre of the Medieval Town of Regensburg. It is situated on the northernmost point of the Danube River, where it turns south east. It was a very prosperous trading city during the Middle Ages. These two weeks, over the holidays, the student numbers are quite depleted. Lots of people have gone home. Our class of 8 has dwindled to 3! But that makes for even more practice and individual attention. The pace of the class is really intense but very pleasant. The school is a smallish, independent one, started about 20 years ago by two men, one of whom still serves as director. It is very high quality and generous. The teachers are very caring and helpful. Staff ... read more

Christmas Eve about 15 of us enjoyed a wonderful feast from different countries. My desperately chosen contribution was Christmas Pudding, the recipe for which I actually have in my computer having typed it out for a friend a couple of years ago. As soon as we had finished we hurried to the cathedral for Midnight Mass which begins here at 10pm. It was very crowded and we had to stand in the side aisle where we could still glimpse proceedings but had a better view on a large CTTV screen. Then back to bed and up early to the station. It was very quiet in the snow covered streets, but really busy at the station. The train arrived on time but there were various annotations on the departures board about delays. It should have been a ... read more

Well..I'm pleased to report that it has just in the last half hour started snowing quite heavily. Just as well as I had to bury the ice cream to go with the Christmas Pudding in the snowdrift outside my dormer window! Although we have small fridges in our rooms, they have no freezer compartments. Those of us still remaining in the dormitory are having a multicultural feast tonight prior to going to Midnight Mass at the Cathedral. It is only about 5 minutes' walk from here. We have been warned to wear everything we own. Not only is it a Medieval stone building with no heating but people keep wandering in and out and opening the door! I have spent the morning making Christmas pudding. I had prepared the fruit last night and soaked it in ... read more
