We initially thought to take a walk along the coast from the lighthouse to the castle. Given the hot temperature at this time of the day, we decided to take the car which was a sensible decision. We drove back near the entrance where there is a free parking place! I have been struggling to park the car myself since I began to drive this massive ship. I have even failed to reverse the car without asking A to step out to have a look behind. It is a very awkward situatioin for me, but I was dare not to damage the car. Despite having difficulties to judge from the driving seat, I finally parked within two parking space. I am sure that nobody will notice this since we were far end of the car park. ... read more

There were two purposes of visiting Cap Frehel. For me, it is another day of driving at the wrong side of the road which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a very hot day & we realised that it would be nice to avoid the mid-day heat. So we planned to drive to Cap Frehel in the afternoon. It took us almost an hour to reach our destination. Then we circled around for a while to find a place where we could park the car without paying. I did not think that it was a bad thing after all. The most of visitors had parked their vehicles by the side of the road and we did the same. We first launch our pre-planned mission to get a little plant into our plastic carrier. It was hard task, ... read more

We decided to cycle along the country lanes as the weather showed us a perfect day for cycling. We had such a lovely time while visiting this place, surrounded by only maize fields in the middle of the country. This place is now isolated in the middle of the country, in an old marsh on the edge of a forest. The Chateau de la Hunaudaye, was built eight hundreds years ago, but now we could see massive outer walls which stands impressively. According the information, we obtained from the ticket desk, this castle was built to supervise the river Arguenon that was used as a border between Pays de Lamballe & Pays de Dinan. To be honest, there is nothing special to see inside. What we saw inside, we could have seen from outside. Nevertheless, the ... read more

Today is a big day for us. Last night we planned to visit Dinan, one the most historical - well preserved medieval city of 13th century. We instead choice to go to Dinan because we could not get a ferry to St. Malo. We took a local train from Landebia, which is located not far from Little Paradise. It was another hot day. The absence of the wind made impossible to wait under the metal roofed waiting area. We must have been there for almost half an hour, the train appeared from the far end of the turn. We were hurried into the train, within a minute we were heading to Dinan. The train journey was very pleasant as it ran through the country side. The entire train journey was less than an hour. We arrived ... read more

Today we planned to go to Saint-Cas, which is one of the most splendid beaches in Bretagne. At the time of our departure, the sky was blue, and the sun was very bright. It was a perfect time to be on the beach. I am going to be behind the wheel of a very old family car. The size of the car was a bit of problem to me, but I was careful not to show my hesitation to anyone. My only worry was how quickly I can adopt the habit of driving the other side of the road. Mademoiselle kept reminding me that I should move this side of the road, then I realised that I have moved into the other side of the road. I drove along the country side while Nanu was sitting ... read more

The day began quietly and lazily at this side of Little Paradise. I was woken up by the sound of birds singing not far from my bed. I felt as if a group of birds made a successful invasion against Little Paradise. It was quite unusual beginning of the day in contrast to the sound of racing vehicles, and bin collectors. I had to open my eyes as the shutter in front of me went up with a wake up noise. I looked outside the window to see green fields and tall trees instead of the massive grey building in Paris. This certainly cannot be a dream! I am very far from the busy and noisy city of Paris. I was so excited to know that we will begin the discovery of Bretagne by this afternoon. ... read more

So we begrudgingly left Portugal a week and a half ago, you might have gathered we could have stayed there forever, but on to pastures new! We left and drove across Portugal and got half way across Spain, about 7 hours driving in 30 degrees (lovely!) and unfortunately just as we left Portugal our indicators stopped working! Sam had a fiddle and managed to get them working for 50% of the journey. Every time we wanted to change lanes we had to fiddle with the relay mounted under the dashboard which as i am sure you can imagine, got a little tiresome and was probably a bit dangerous! Luckily this seemed to work for the time being. We stopped for 1 night at a campsite in Tordesilla, Spain then drove the remainder of the journey back ... read more

Today was another travel day for me. I woke up early with Flore and her mother around 8 o clock in the morning and got my things ready to leave. Flore and her mother were making there way to the north of France to meet Flore’s father where he was working for the week. They were taking the car and so they dropped me off at the train station so that I could catch my train at 11:52 am. I sat and waited in a special waiting area inside the Dijon train station and read a lot of A Clockwork Orange. I must say that one of the best part about this entire trip has been my ability to read un interrupted. This trip is almost 85% relaxation, and because of that I have found ... read more

So today I decided that I would be ambitious and try to hit two places, Vannes and Carnac. I managed to get out of the hostel by about 9am and zoomed down to the train station to buy a ticket to Vannes. My thinking was that they should have buses to Carnac from Vannes, and at the very least I would see Vannes, as I had planned to. I got my ticket with three minutes to spare before the train left, ran through the station and made it down to the train to discover it FULL. I don't mean just all the seats were taken, but there were people stuffed into every nook and crannie of that train, so full that I would not even be able to squeeze my way on. Apparently they don't assign ... read more

Well, I made it to Rennes yesterday and arrived on what must have been the hottest day of the year. Rumour has it that it was 36 degrees yesterday.... The hostel is pretty nice, even though they have lockout hours from 10am to 3:30pm. I have two Canadian roommates (at least that's it so far) and they're both really nice. Marina is from Victoria and is anglophone, and Justine is from Quebec and is francophone, though her English is quite good. We've been conversing the whole time in English because Marina doesn't speak much French, unfortunately. After I dropped off my bags, hit a supermarket for my much needed water, and was able to set up my bed and everything, I went on a walk around town before meeting with Adé. The city is really neat, ... read more
