After we leave Mont St. Michel we drive southwest to Rennes (the capitol of Brittany). On the way we see old style windmills that are built on the reclaimed fields overlooking the bay where Mont St. Michel is located, and our first Menhir (standing stone) . Our next home exchange is in St. Jacques-de-la-Lande, a suburb of Rennes. This home will be our base for the next few days. Ploubazlanec on the Cote d'Armor was one of the places I looked forward to visiting purely because of its name and the towns you have to pass through to get there. PLOO-BAZ-LAN-ECK. PLOUBAZLANEC. On the way and surrounding are Le Cabaret, Pleudaniel, Squiffiec, Ploumagoar, Lezardrieux, Plouagat, Plouisy, Plouadis and Plouadat. Way to name your bourgs Bretons! Diving into the life of a bonvivant began with dinner at the Ferme du Kerroc'h. Nathalie was expecting a meal in ramshackle rural farmhouse. The ferme Kerroc'h however was a farm which had long ago been converted into a cosy local eatery and therefore wasn't set in a patchwork of fields but plonked on the side of the main road into town. Sunday, July 26 Mont St. Michel, Menhir du Champ-Dolent, and St. Jacques-de-la-Lande When we returned at night to our room, we are assailed by the fragrance of the cheese we had bought at the market in Bayeux. Since we have a wide windowsill, we promptly left the bag outside on the sill for the night. Breakfast is served from 8:15-9:30. Again, our hosts have been thoughtful for Jackie, and have fresh fruit, soft farmer cheese and yogurt for her. The cheese and yogurt was actually “artisian” made by their neighbor who has a dairy farm. We have baguettes, homemade brioche, and homemade apple and apricot jams, too. We have a table for four to ourselves. The other guests are all down for breakfast by the time we return to our room. The French conversation is lively. ... read more

The second day in St. Malo, we visited all other places which we couldn't visit on our first day. We wondered around the city wall and spend most of the time window shopping and taking photos. There were a lot of visitors compared to the previous rainy day. Whenever we felt hungry, we ate mussels and chip, then gallets and caramel crepes to the end. During our meal time, we tossed our glasses up filled with cider glasses. The time ran faster than we expected. We headed back to the train station 30 minutes before our departure but we forgot to get our tickets checked only last five minutes before the departure. I ran like a lunatic on the platform and reach the ticket checker to realise that I had the wrong ticket in my hands. ... read more
