İlişkimiz kopmadı çocukları oldu …hepsin... read more

Day 126 – Prague – Czech Republic It was lovely and fresh this morning as we left. Foggy too. We headed to a former concentration camp at Mauthausen first up. It had some incredible tributes to the different nationalities that had been involved. We climbed down and up the ‘death stairs’ which are these steep steps leading down to a quarry. The prisoners would work in the quarry and have to climb these steps carrying massive boulders. If they couldn’t make it up the stairs they may be shot on the spot or pushed down the stairs. Just horrific stuff. There was a well displayed exhibition with photos, video, audio recordings, artifacts etc. We walked into gas chambers, crematoriums, dormitories and the mortuary. Quite confronting but good to see high school groups attending and ... read more

Today is the day we leave for Vienna. Since we had reserved tickets for the 2:39 PM train, we planned to at least complete one additional sightseeing item in Prague. Our initial plan was to go to "National Museum'. When I checked online (some folks mentioned this yesterday as well), the main museum is closed for renovation and only annexe buildings were open. We decided to skip the museum and go to Petrin hill instead. This is in an excellent location close to the Prague castle. Gardens, observation tower, observatory, restaurants and other attractions are in this area. There is a small cable car that takes you up from the street. We had to finish our showers, pack and finish our breakfast before the check out. We requested the front-desk to hold on to our luggage. ... read more

"Wow! It looks like a magazine!" Ava's eyes were wide as we walked into St. Vitus Church. I have to agree, it was grandiose. The ceilings were high covered in ornate decorations. The front of the church had an amazing altar. There were ornate and brightly-colored stained glass windows covering half of the wall space. Mom and I spoke about royal weddings throughout history taking place in this church, and what amazing affairs they must have been. After all, St. Vitus is inside Prague Castle. We walked all around the castle, taking in the grandeur. Unfortunately, it was very cold outside. It was windy and had snowed on and off throughout the afternoon. When we first arrived to the castle, I was feeling famished. We decided to go into the first English-speaking restaurant that I found. ... read more

Rich people are a riot! Well not really; but they do make for interesting people watching. I've always been a low key traveler; mud floors, hostels, train station benches are not beyond me. So when I joined Trafalgar I had to adjust my thinking somewhat and be welcomed to the high life. I'm staying at the Hilton Prague, which we use for our guests as do other operators, including 2 river cruise companies. Let me preface this by saying all the Trafalgar clients I've met are honest, down to earth, fun people who have saved and worked hard for their vacation with us, and in general are great! But it appears the "other" type of people also stay here; rich, arrogant, snobby this hotel better revolve around my every whim people. Annoying as hell but fun ... read more

While I realize this is out of order, I will catch up and just wanted to post this before bed. There's a title to start off with:-) today has been my best day here in Prague, not only because of the sights but what I accomplished and how happy I feel, sipping on a Czech beer or 2, as per my boss's suggestion. I'm really struggling with jet lag for some reason and was up most of last night in the wee hours between 12-5. Despite being exhausted, I still wolfed down some breakfast and raced to the Prague Castle, probably the most important historical site in the city. My Lonely Planet warned to get here early, while I still made it by 09:30, the crowds were multiplying in droves. Regardless, I had the pleasure of ... read more

Day three Ned travel tip number ??: if you want to find something in Prague, leave the map in your pocket. Sleep was a bit out of whack, but today was my first full day in Prague and I was looking forward to it. Quickly got ready and went down for breakfast. Remember those 500 odd guests checking in I mentioned yesterday? Well apparently they wanted bkft too, the hotel had even set up a secondary buffet and eating area to accommodate us all. Wow! Food was amazing and I stuffed myself realizing I'd not really eaten much yesterday. Then, horror of horrors; I saw them, sitting innocently whispering sweet nothing's in my direction....... Fresh true, buttery, light, European croissants! Damn diet!...... It lost and I happily ate one of those buttery, fresh little pieces of ... read more

Day One and Two A relatively easy journey: YEG-YYZ-FRA-PRG, with perfect connection times, just long enough to stretch your legs and not panic about missed connections if flight is slightly delayed. Random Ned Travel Tip:A great way to ensure not making friends with your airplane seat neighbor is to pull out your hand wipes and obsessively wash your tray table with crazed enthusiasm! It worked, he started leaning away from me when I fervently wiped the tray table, on both sides:-) I got to travel business class to Toronto, Frankfurt flight was economy but at least I was the aisle on the 2 seater side. I realized I'd never flown Lufthansa before, good German staff, bad movie and TV choices but what do you do? FRA airport is, shall we say, a very efficient airport. Other ... read more

Sorry for the gap in between blogs. We have been on the move a lot and have been really busy. In a good way. Last time I left you we had our sites set on Munich and let me tell you it did not disappoint. There are a few suggestions I have for America from this trip and the number one thing is beer gardens. Probably the best invention ever. It's like happy hour but instead of pints of beer they are liters of beer and they are outside and cheap. Half of a baked chicken, fries, two liters of beer 10 euro. America needs to adopt this ASAP. We visited many different beer gardens but the most incredible one was not in Munich. We took a one hour train ride south to a lake town ... read more

Well we are finally off the river ship. We spent two days in Vienna which was pretty good. Apart from other things I went to where all the Hapsburgs are held in a crypt (read your European history on who the hell the Hapsburghs are!). 160 of them are right there, not buried or in coffins all bricked up, but right infront of you in brass sarcophagi that you can touch. 2nd last night on the boat was the Captains Farewell Dinner. I was wondering why not the last night, but found out when I couldn't get out of bed the next day! We went to Budapest for the last two days on the boat. Pretty cool city and amazing to actually be in Hungary and Eastern Europe. Travelling from there to Prague was also interesting ... read more
