Andorra 2007 After a delayed flight, we missed the only bus that day from France into Andorra, causing us to hire a car and drive. Andorra is a great place for a cheap skiing holiday while in Europe. When we arrived at our apartment there was very little snow, which had us a little worried about the logistics of skiing on a mountain with little snow. Luckily that night, by pure luck it snowed, and snowed bloody heavy! We were ecstatic, we could ski......when I said "we could ski", I mean that there was snow, so technically we had the potential to ski. However for the first hour or two on the mountain, I am not sure what we were doing was actually classed as skiing. I think a better description would be falling down the ... read more

So having breezed through a delightful Portugal we exited back into Espania. Our plan was to head east to Barcelona and what ever we discovered enroute then good luck. Our first stop was Salamanca and as it was raining we only stopped one night. The next morning another English couple, now living in France, were stuck in the mud so Rob assisted them to get out. As they were stuck good n proper we eventually towed them out. Good deed done for the day we headed off. Next stop worth mentioning was Logrono and although it was a quaint town with some good wine shops we bought some rolls for lunch from a bakery and they were Euro 1.40 each, which is very expensive for a roll, although they did feel very heavy. Good thing we ... read more

Andorra is a super small country nestled between Spain and France. We figured that we might not ever make it to Andorra in the future so why not see it now! We headed to a small ski down called Arsinal. Unlike the Spanish coast, the tourist ski season had not yet begun because there was no snow. It was just really cold! We had a hard time finding a place to eat on the first night so we had our good old sandwich in the room dinner. Of course this was accompanied by a fine bottle of wine! The next day our goal was the hike to the tallest mountain in Andorra. The trail was supposedly very close to our hotel but we were not able to read any of the signs. We saw some hikers ... read more

After a bit of unguided touring of the majority of the roads that lead into and out of Valencia I finally managed to arrive at the rendezvous point where I was due to meet up with Ricardo, the world famous protechnician, to be escorted to his fireworks factory. He now thinks that I'm a little insane after his questioning a little along the lines of; you come to Spain, drive into Valencia with no hotel booking, where did you stay? Yes a nice little hostal in the old part of town. Where did you eat? oh a couple of nice resturaunts around the old town? But you don't speak Spanish, how did you do this? Mate it was OK. How did you get to the America's Cup? Oh on the Metro. You travelled on the Metro, ... read more

I hope youve been practicing your Catalan. Yes, the only country in the whole wide world where the official language is Catalan. But its OK, French, Spanish or English will get you around - no worries!! Another interesting thing is, that out of the population of around 80,000, Spanish make up 37%, Andorran 34% and French, around 15% - the Andorran population is outnumbered by the Spanish. **** Yes, nestled neatly between Spain and France - two of Europes' biggest countries- is one of Europes smallest. Many Europeans like it here because of the shopping. This is because there is no tax on alcohol, cigarettes, and most electrical goods. In fact its like a big duty-free one shop stop. Now I am not a fan of packaged holidays at all as i generally like to get a flight and just go and figure it out when i am there. So, given i love skiing and hav'nt been since i went to bulgaria in 2005 i wasnt going to turn down the opportunity. Myself and KT, Gaz & Jen and Chris & Nic headed off to Manchester airport to get a flight to Tolouse in France where we would then get a transfer to Arinsal in Andorra. Flight time was only an hour and a half so we jumped on to a bus where we were met by out Neilson Rep "sophie" who in fairness wasnt too bad as far as reps go, she was happy to answer any questions but didnt push anything on to ... read more

Well today we collected all our ski equipment, we put the kids in ski school and met our ski instructor to start learning to ski (or try to!) we had a lesson for around 2 hours, just learning the basics, the weather was quite warm, to be honest I was really tired, today was a very long day, and we just about made the gondola on the way back at 5pm, we was all very tired and looking forward to dinner. After and nice shower and some food we all got pissed in the bar.... read more

Poco pratico. E così ... read more

There are two reasons why foreigners travel to Andorra: skiing or shopping. Now, I’m crap at skiing and I hate shopping. Nevertheless… Andorra is a Country of Lilliputian size, only 40 kms from the south border (the one with Spain) to the Pas de the House one which separates the Country from France. The latter sits at over 2000 meters a.s.l. and, contrarily to what happens with the Spanish one, it represents a true physical barrier. The connections to and from Andorra are consequently good with Spain but nearly nonexistent with its overpyrenees neighbour. Starting from Carcassone with no private car would mean to be forced to travel to Toulouse first, 100 kms north-west, then hope to catch the sporadic bus service to cover further 200 kms south. Not very practical. Hence the idea to rent ... read more
