At The Crew Bar - Feb. 15th
L-R: Me, Kristina, Luis (chief purser) and Marlize Spending my birthday away from home and everyone I care about could have been really difficult. I certainly greatly missed everyone back home. But I’ve been showered with emails and online messages of love - thank you! And people on the ship have been so kind. Brooks made a “Happy Birthday Jeanette” banner, hung it on the wall outside of my room and everyone signed it. And I’ve received sweet little gifts and cards and more drinks than I needed.
I’d originally planned to go on more great excursions this week, but we’re rather busy and the tours were booked up with the guests, so it turned into a beach/party week.
The day before my birthday, I went with Ricky and two of his friends from college who are dancers on another Carnival ship that was also docking in St. Maarten. We headed over to the French side of the island to Bikini Beach to soak up some sun. Lovely relaxing day. After work, in the crew bar somebody announced it was now my birthday and started buying me drinks. That’s when the celebrations began . . .
The day of my birthday we were in St. Lucia.
I went with Brooks, Ricky, Marlize (one of the social hosts) and Michael (production trumpet player) to Marigot Bay. There we met up with a bunch of the dancers. The bay is surrounded on three sides by mountains all covered in lush trees. The water glistened under the sun. There’s a little marina, a few waterside restaurant/bars and a small bit of beach. I could not get over how gorgeous it was. I spent the day just reading, sleeping, swimming, lying in the sun and trying to keep up with the beverages that kept coming my way.
When we finished at Marigot Bay, we took a water taxi along the coast back to the ship. It was stunning. I love St. Lucia and definitely recommend it for a vacation destination. The sun began setting over the water and we were continually amazed by the sights. I’m so happy we took that boat ride. Back at the port, we still had a half hour before we had to be on the ship, so we went for more drinks. After dinner, a nap and work, there was a crew party - a movie/pajama night.
Yesterday we were in St. Kitts
for another day of lying on a beautiful beach. I went with Ricky to Turtle Beach where we met up with a few other people. The drive there was incredible. The road snaked up and around the mountains. Around every turn was a breathtaking view down the mountains to the ocean below, beautiful beaches and across the water, the island of Nevis.
Then last night, Brooks, Ricky, Kristina (production singer), Marlize and I went to The Golden Fleece - Supper Club - on the ship. This is the formal fancy gormet guest dining room. What an event! We were all dressed up and I felt so spoiled and pampered. The food was incredible. A five course meal that lasted nearly 3 hours. I had the best escargot ever, a salad, huge broiled lobster tails, grilled vegetables, sauteed mushrooms and the most phenomenal chocolate trio dessert you can imagine, plus wine and cosmopolitans. We had so much fun! And I felt so lucky to have great people (who really I’m just getting to know) who care enough to celebrate and make my birthday special.
After supper club, we went to the piano bar, listened to the pianist, Garth, play
and sang some songs with him. We went to the photo gallery to have some photos taken - and they’re so great! But you’ll have to wait to see my scrapbook I’ll eventually make to see them. The night ended with more hours in the crew bar and everybody there was in such a celebratory mood. So much fun and craziness!
Now I’m worn out. It’s been three fantastic, but exhausting, days of fun and mayhem. And amongst all of this we’re still working! Thank you again for the love sent my way. Next cruise hopefully I’ll have more luck with getting excursions and therefore I’ll have better travel stories. And I promise, an update on general ship life is on it’s way.
