So to pick up where I left off. We scored the 3 person private room at the first Panama City Hostel. Well sort of 3 person room, there was a double bed and a single, so I took the single and Catherine and Jenna took the double. The room didn't have A/C and was pretty damn hot I have to say. First night we just ate at some cheap diner before the next days activities of going to Miraflores Locks to see the Panama Canal! We were there for about 3 hours and I finally got to use my ISIC card and get a student discount on something! Watch a few barges get tugged through, had a few beers and just generally relaxed. Was a very nice afternoon. Evening time comes and we decide we want ... read more

Just a short blog update today. Well after making the bus ride which wasn't too bad. I had 2 seats to myself for a while until some German girl appeared from nowhere 2 hours in and said she needed to sit next to me. Okay, where have you been the last 2 hours? Anyways all good, still enough room to get comfy and try and sleep. Spent most time listening to MP3 player on random. Jeez I have some random shit on there that I never listen to. Nothing exciting about a bus ride really is there. Made a pit stop and I took a few photos of an empty Costan Rican village that obviously serves as a stopping point for long distance drivers. Few hours later we make the border. All good getting out of ... read more

Since I always fly Copa Airlines when travelling in the Americas, I always have to connect flight in Panama. Sometimes it’s just an hour in transit and other times it’s a day. Panama is a beautiful country, apart from time spent here in transit; I have visited this precious country twice in the past. First in Dec 2009 for a month and later in April for 2 weeks, this means I’ve been blessed to visit the beautiful places the country has to offer. Well, when next you find yourself in transit in Panama and you have a few hours before your next flight, there are several sites to check out in Panama City. The Panama Canal is one; there is Albrook mall (a bit far from the airport); Metro mall (very close to the airport and ... read more

Hey all, after an initial scary moment at the airport I made it to my hotel without issue. It is absolutely gorgeous down here. Of course, LAX had to be a freakin madhouse at midnight for some reason, crawling inch by inch into departures, so I had to run into the airport from Sepulveda. Then the lady at check in woudn´t issue my ticket because I don´t have a print out of my return flight on a different airline. Thank god for the iPhone, I showed her my confirmation on my phone and got my boarding pass. Then got harrassed because I ¨smelled of booze¨. Ya, no kidding, I was just at a bar and had to run a 1/2 mile into the freakin airport. Yes, the booze is gonna come out a bit. No law ... read more

Geo: 8.95163, -79.5318A bit dazed this morning, not having had the best sleep - given the lack of sleep the night before flying out, I'm working on something like six or seven hours in the past two days. Hoping to take a stroll around the neighbourhood to get my bearings, the sleep deprivation and confusing layout made for a disorienting experience. Streets aren't well-labeled here, and the ones that actually are labeled don't provide much help - many street signs aren't oriented such that they line up with any street, so they don't tell you much. A number of streets also have two names, so the one you see on the map doesn't necessarily correspond to the signs you read. Making things even more confusing is when you come across something bizarre like an intersection with ... read more

Geo: 8.99427, -79.5188Travel to certain Central and South American countries can still elicit a certain amount of surprise in people, as they aren't some of the top destinations for most. I'm used to being grilled by customs agents with those frequent trips passing through London, but I had to chuckle a little bit today - I wasn't asked any questions that I hadn't heard before, but the tone was amusing. "So I see you're going to Panama. What are you going to do there????" Uh ... visit the canal, and just hang out? But I'm only going to be there for a few days before going to Colombia. "Colombia ... hmmm ... and what exactly are you going to do there????" Uh ... hang out in a few cities, and hit the beach?"And you're traveling by ... read more

Soooo here we go... On my way to Bocas del Torro I stayed one night in Panama City. As the name suggests it is a city, which is something I don't like very much, therefore I was happy to have a look at it from a little bit further away.... read more

Panama City We put our dogs in boarding and went to the City to apply for Residency. Hubert found a highly recommended lawyer on the internet and has been in contact with her for some time. So we gathered all our papers, packed our suitcases and off we went. We have to say that we experienced the fastest flight ever ! From David to Panama City it is just an hour flight but this time it felt like 15 minutes. We got into our seats, got served a snack and a drink and before finishing that we were landing already ! wow. A taxi took us to our Suite at the Finisterre Suites and Spa, right downtown. It turned out to be a really nice place. Separate bedroom with bathroom and a small kitchen. Actually the ... read more

We arrived in Panama on November 17 after a long day of flying. We checked into our hotel and quickly fell asleep. After having a good nights sleep we were ready to start our day. After breakfast I went and arranged for our vehicle rental and went to reactivate our cell phone. The sim card had crashed. The cost of a new sim card $3.24 which includes $100.00 of airtime. I then purchased a $10.00 long distance card which shoulf give us more minutes that we will need. We left the hotel at around 1:00 pm. I had updated the Panama maps for the GPS so it was time to try it out and see if we could get out of town. We plugged in Keins address and left Panama City with no problems. While driving ... read more
