Wednesday, February 28, 2007 I worked a regular day at school on Wednesday. I got everything ready for me to be gone for 3 days with my parents. I made up packages for every day that I would not be there and had very detailed instructions for my students so that everything would get done and so that it didn´t matter if they had an English-speaking teacher covering my class, or a Spanish teacher. They just needed to supervision. All the work could be done on their own. I even sat with them and went over the packages with them to clear up any questions they had. We had a talk about respect and expectations too. I was set and ready to go. After school my family met me at the school with all their backpacks ... read more

Hello everyone, Last weekend we went to the Lage de Yojoa again, as a nice relaxing first weekend for the other volunteers and as we really needed to chill out. Every weekend we think, yeh we'll really relax this weekend, but then we never seem to. Even the weekend on a caribbean island renowned for its slow pace of life was hectic. We arrived on Friday, the journey being nice and short, only 3 hours. We had set off in the morning as building was cancelled due to the rain we had had on thursday making the ground to damp. So we arrived at 12 and then chilled out by the pool in the glorious heat. I read a fantastic book, which is Amys (I've finished it AMy - would never have guessed!) called Interpretation of ... read more

This weekend a big group of us went down to the lake to have some fun. There was a huuuuge waterfall that you can walk under. We had been warned that it would be really hard to see and to breathe but this didn't deter us...we went anyway! Health and safety is basically non-existant over here, (or if it's not, it may as well be!) but I think we were fairly safe...ish! We had to scramble over muddy banks until we eventually reached water. We had to jump off a rock into the water below...scary! Then we all linked hands and sidestepped into the waterfall. So hard to see and you had to look down and breathe through your mouth. It was intense. Eventually we all squished waist high in water under a rock. Our guide ... read more

Hello everyone! Hope your all well. So this weekend we went to Lago de Yajoa, which took about 2 and a half hours to get there. We went on Friday afternoon and came back on Sunday. We stayed at Hotel Agua Azul, which is literally right on the lake, which is HUGE, I think its 22km long, that may be completely wrong though. The hotel was fantastic, it was in the most beautiful location and had a quite nice restaurant (though we had a couple of people feeling a bit ill after one particular meal - don't worry mum I'm fine). There was a reception and loads of different cabins - with hot showers, thank the lord! Its suprising quite how happy hot showers can make a person. Plus it had a really nice pool. The ... read more

*** Travelblog's notifications haven't been sending out lately. I think this is the first one that has worked in awhile. I have still been writing though so check out past entries too! Thanks for reading! *** AMAZING WEEKEND! Yet again... filled with adventure and fun. Friday after school, Alisa, Meg, and I went to one of the bus stations in town and caught a bus that took us to La Guama. From there we got a bus to Pena Blanca and then from there caught this cute little 3 wheeled taxi thing (kind of like a golf cart but smaller) to the D & D Brewery… Honduras’ ONLY microbrewery. The plan for the weekend was to drink some good beer, eat some good food, go to a nearby waterfall, and visit the lake. What an awesome ... read more
