Cuba - Beautiful Island in the Carribean Sea During wintertime in Switzerland we decided to escape the ''coldness'' of Switzerland. We've been flying with Edelweiss Airlines, a Swiss Charter to Varadero with stopover in Holguin. We've enjoyed 2 weeks in Cuba. The journey back home was kinda turbulent. Even I got a bit scared while we approached Zurich with lots of crosswind. Finally the Airbus A330 needed to carry out a touch and go and repeat the approach again...We finally landed savely in Zurich and we are reminiscing Cuba as a wonderful, friendly country.... read more

Onze eerste echte vakantie (trip). Onze volgende bestemming ... read more

When you land in Havana (or anywhere in Cuba - expecially if you go there during the summer) the humid air strikes you in the face, and oppresive heat, even in the evening. It takes you a few days to get accostumed, and then you are fine. Already at the airport you can see, that this is a different country. Cars are older, there are plenty old US cars parked and a few Lada taxis. We got a ride with the Lada taxi, and that returned me in the 80's when my dad used to have Lada. Even I had a Lada Samara, but that car was in much better state than the majority of cars in Cuba. Of course Lada driver never experienced air condition, and he understood open windows as air condition device. ... read more

Cuba is the land of music, hand rolled cigars, fabulous antique cars and old spanish colonial architecture. Havana was like time travel back to the 50's. The whole trip started with an exciting plane ride from Nassau, Bahamas to Havana. The old Russian Antonov aircraft was rickety and was filled with white smoke for airconditioning before take off. It felt more like smoke at a disco, but with no disco fever music. As soon as the plane took off, the overhead bins started popping open and the toilet door started shaking. The whole plane ride of 1.5 hours felt like ages and there was clapping all over the aircraft when we safely landed in Havana. Through out the trip, I stayed with cuban host families and was a great way to get to experience the cuban ... read more

Geo: 23.1168, -82.3886De hecho ... Viva Cuba! El lema...My very first visit to Cuba...I went together with my best friend from Switzerland, we met 1993 in Bangkok and promptly planned our trip for 1994 to travel together into crime-ridden Manila, Philippines...and beyond.Que no hablo español...también no hablo bien Inglés...Basically...Conversation possibilities were non-existent...That didn't stop the Cubans from frolicking with me...Back in the 90's the Jiintero/Jintera quota was low-key...truly wonderful walking around the streets without having someone on your tail every second trying to part you from your money in any way imaginable...I was staying in districto Vedado, just opposite the hotel Meliá Cohíba towards the infamous La Rampa...do you see the lonely looking high-rise, Russian looking apartment building? On the very top floor,... read more
