Throwing caution to the wind, we decided to cross the border into Belize and make it into Orange Walk in one go. After arriving in Chetumal, on the Mexican side of the border, trying to get a connecting bus to Belize was like an episode of "Its's a Knockout" but the obstacles weren't wearing inflaitable suits making them much harder to spot. Our first opponent was a sketchy information woman who muttered something about a bus leaving from the market place. The second opponent came in the form of a smooth talking money changer who managed to rip off a few people but we thankfully managed to side step him. For opponent 3, see opponent 2 but now in the guise of a shady bus conductor, who was willing to take ticket money from gringos without ... read more

When you get this dance down, your officially a Belizean. Check out these punta video links to the left:::::::: Me and my girls went to a dance at a place called the Garden of Eatin' a little pass where the buses come for pickup. It was cool, many youngsters though. But it was nice to watch everyone dance this dance in unison. It's as if everyone gets into a punta trance and it becomes hypnotic. It's crazy. Any how... Me and Y were ready to go to sleep by 10pm, and when Belizeans party, they don't get there till 1am or 2am and don't leave until 6am.....I'm not the one, Good nig... read more

Hello - Well it has been about 6 months since our last trip. We spent about 6 months at home recharging the batteries and pulling together a little money. We are only doing a short three week trip starting in mexico and then heading into belize, to guatamla, back to belize then back to mexico. We spent 2 glorious days running the white sands of tulum. We had an incredible beach front cabana that allowed us unending access to the beach which we took full advantage of. We had a couple of nights with a little too much of the drink and then finding ourselves rolling in the night time waves. After tulum we headed into belize. That has proved to be an adventure as the biggest bus company (novelos) closed down yesterday. That has meant ... read more

The Garifuna are ethnically descended from Amerindian and African people; their language is a dialect of the native Brazilian language family Arawakan. The British colonial administration invented the term Black Carib under which the Garifuna went before they came to the Island of Roatán and eventually the Honduras mainland. Freedom is what I felt when I cupped my hands for the experience at Y's Farm. The people, so proud of their heritage, so charming and pleasantly mannered, and very hospitable and clean and relaxed in there ways. I think everyone there is a born chef. Fresh fish, beans andd fryjacks in the morning. What a way to greet the day. Breakfast, Lunch and Tea were always on time. The children and their good mann... read more

December 20, 2005 (It's my Birthday!!!!) So, me and my girlfriends ( D, Y and another Y) decided to take the cheap route and purchase tickets from LAX to Cancun, Mexico to get to Dangriga, Belize. We arrived at the airport 1:30pm (Cancun, immigration, passport, luggage, customs) uh oh, D's luggage is missing...."Are you sure? DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!! D's luggage was lost....and BOYYY.. was she not happy. All of us we're bummed out. We paced for a bout an hour until customer service gave us a number: We took a taxi to the bus station which was about 25 minutes way. When we arrived at the bus station, we noticed that the bus we wanted to get on was departing, so we had to wait 4 hours. In the mean time we're thinking that the ... read more

Writing this, ahead of me I can see a local tourist attraction for Belizians - one of only 2 sets of traffic lights in all the country, fascinating I can tell you! Which is next to a wobbly, old suspension bridge that you risk your life on every time you cross. I'm in a busy little place called San Ignacio, which translates from Spanish as 'The Island', highlighting its remote nature in the Macal River Valley. Been relaxing here for a few days, learning Spanish, getting lost in Jungles and drinking lime juice that's nearly as good as Singapore's. I survived the pirate-island of Caulker one more day where no amount of doggy paddle stopped a tidal current washing me out to sea, before snorkling back inland. I became a pupil for an evening by hiring ... read more

(sorry it's a bit of a long one) Wandering around Belize City, it's surprisingly hard to find anything you want. For example, finding a tourist information place was an hour's quest that eventually failed, all the places having moved countless times in recent years so that not even locals know where they are. Nevertheless, although slightly irritating from a personal perspective, this is a prime example highlighting what a dynamic and vibrant place this small city is, and one that is constantly developing and changing. After spending about 30 hours travelling (and what felt like a similar length of time sleeping once here), from Toronto, through Houston's "we do not take highly to persons joking about any act of security. You will be arrested" airport, I was welcomed into Belize with a huge 'Subway' billboard. At ... read more

Ok so, its been a while since we last talked....so sorry for that but i think that its been a break well deserved from the annoying multi page ramblings of a man most of you cant really remember, and most just know as that annoying guy who never really shuts the hell up.... Four weeks in Mexico and our Spanish was, shall we say, muy poco, so it was with some relief that we approached our second border and the English speaking Belize. The border crossing was straight forward enough with charges for liability insurance and fumigation, then a signed declaration promising to not sell the car and after only half an hour and a quick chat with the immigration official, about how great his country is, we were on our way to the notorious Belize City. There are immediate and obvious differences between Belize and Mexico, but the most striking is the people, the majority now of Caribbean descent. Superpop's, a roadside barbecue and our first stop, gave us our first taste of both Belizean cuisine - rice, beans and meat - and Belizean people - big, loud ... read more
