Our time for the clinic in Belle Anse was limited so we had decided to leave directly from the airport and get to Belle Anse that first night. In theory it was possible, but I began to have second thoughts when, even my co-director Guesno Mardy, who generally thinks anything is possible, was a little hesitant. ( He had seen the road I had not). Driving through Port au Prince for the first time is always a shock. So many people, so much happening, tap taps and woman selling food and everything else right beside the road. One of my favorites [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Port au Prince on the 4th around 12:30. Getting off the plane into the humid heat and walking across the tarmac, several team members were delighted by the temperature which was a really good sign for the rest of the trip. The Haitian band that sits in the entrance to the airport for the passengers played away as we lined up at the passport check point. We all got through without a hitch and into the baggage claim area. I think of this part as "Welcome to Haiti, get ready, it is an intense place" After you have [View Full Entry]

Hello, We are all back home now. The last 4 of us made it back from Haiti late last night. The travel blog was a great idea, but it turned out our hotel in Port au Prince did not have it's internet up an running! Other than a few hours every morning we were on the road and working hard everyday so had no time to look for other online options. Being -unplugged was particularly hard on one of our teens! The trip was amazing. I find it hard to find the words to describe how well it went. Awesome, fantastic, [View Full Entry]

Hi, We are on our way!! Thank you for all, the well wishes on the blog! And thanks to everyone who came to our bake sale in Canyon yesterday. It was a huge success! We are on the plane now to Miami where we will stay overnight and leave for Haiti in the morning. I thought this would be a good time to write more about our trip and our team. I am not using the ‘royal’ we. There are 6 of our 11 person team members on this plane. I hope that everyone on the team will have a chance [View Full Entry]

The plan Still on the plane so I will keep going ☺ As I wrote before, bringing a medical team to Belle Anse has been our goal since we first created Sionfonds. So it has been 4 years of planning. By planning, I mean first we start talking about it, then we set a date, then we asked for help from many, many great people who shared their knowledge and helped find resources and gathered funds, then we get postponed and then we try again and find new folks who want to go and more funding and then at the last [View Full Entry]

Here are few quick notes and pics of us tonight we are staying at the embassy suites hotel, So far we jammed up an elevator with our giant pile of duffle bags, we weren't sure if it was the weight or size...... then we did some sort of Laurel and Hardy put a bag or person out and then leave it on one floor going back down and then up. Just a few minutes ago the fire alarms were going off and the water has been off for several hours.......but really it is a beautiful hotel. And the beds are [View Full Entry]

The day after tomorrow we leave. Still plenty to do........and I decided to have a last minute bake sale to raise what ever funds we can. I know it sounds a little silly, a big medical trip 10 or so boxes of medicines, 200 ponds of supplies lots of other important donations and I am wanting to sell cookies to get every last bit of funds I can to take to Haiti. But that is how Sionfonds has grown. I do everything I can to raise funds and get other people involved too and every bit we do really does make [View Full Entry]

Hi Belle Anse is the main site of the medical trip and where we will be creating a clinic. All of the children in the slideshow are in the Sionfonds educational sponsorship program. The green building in the background is our office. Sionfonds has been working in Belle Anse now for 4 years it has always been one of our goals, to bring medical teams to the village and create a clinic. It is so exciting to be taking the first step in fulfilling that goal, in just a few days. The medical team will be staying in a school [View Full Entry]
