At the moment I'm in a Colonial city in the south of Peru called Arequipa, it's a beautiful city with heaps of volcanoes around it to climb and also the second deepest canyon in the world that you can hike down and back up if you're keen, but since I was still on the rebound from the Inca Trail I opted for the lazy 2day tour where you end up up at a Condor sanctury for a bit of bird watching - and it was great. Pretty strange though, we turned up at about 7:30am and saw nothing untill like 8:10 [View Full Entry]

Machu Pichu

South America » Peru » Cusco » Inca Trail
I just got back from the 4day Inca Trail to Machu Pichu and it was absolutely amazing! We walked for about 6hrs a day, camped each night and ended up at the old Inca ruins of Machu Pichu. It was hard work with a lot of uphill and big steps, and the weather was pretty cloudy and foggy for the first three days and it even rained a bit one day, but when we got there on the fourth day the weather was perfect so we were all so stoked! My group of 14 was made up of a lot of [View Full Entry]

South America » Peru » Puno » Lake Titicaca
Well I'm In Peru now, I crossed over about 3days ago with a Frech guy I met in Bolivia, and we stayed a couple of nights in Puno and which is a little town on the edge of the lake and one night on an island with some locals out on the lake which was cool. [View Full Entry]

Me and an islander
Floating islands 2

Shoot I'm buggered. and yes I did get eaten by a lot of things. At the moment my feet are swollen up even fatter then normal because I got so ravaged by mozzies and sandflies and ants and caterpillas. But the rest of the time I had an absolute blast. It was hard work but well worth it. The first 4days we spent hiking with our backpacks fully laden with food and mosquito-nets and stuff, then we got to rest on days 5 and 6 after we made our raft out of balsa trees. I saw a gang of spider monkeys [View Full Entry]

Worst road in the world - Bolivia
Worst road in the world - Bolivia
Oncoming traffic was always really interesting
Last night I came up to Rurrenabaque from La Paz on a 15hr overnight bus and the first 5hrs(in daylight) where on "the worst road in the world", and yes it was bad. Rurrenabaque is a really cool town though, it's more of the Bolivia that I was expecting to see and it's actually hot here which is cool. I came here to go into the jungle for a while, so this morning I did a bit of asking around and found a guy who "knows the jungle" - so I talked him into taking me out there for 6days of [View Full Entry]

I really liked Sucre, it's a beautiful town
Well over the last week I've just sort of been hoping around between cities before arriving here in La Paz. No really great stories to tell so I'll just let the photo's do the talking. [View Full Entry]

The mine in Potosi

 South America » Bolivia
Shoot what a hardout day!!! I can't even describe how tough the conditions are here, basically it made me realize that I've never even come close to working hard in my life and that these guys are hardnox!!! Thousands and thousands of people have died in this mine over the 70 odd years it's been open through health problems from the acidic air and apsestos down there or by accidents, and now the average life expectancy of a miner is 15yrs, so when some of them are starting at 12/13yrs of age it's not looking good for the population of Potosi. Welcome to Bolivia
Welcome to Bolivia
Well this is the big hardout border crossing between Chile and Bolivia. That snowy bit is the highway and you can sort of see the pathetic little barrier arm across it further up beside the shed. not ... [more]
Well I've just spent the last three days between 4-5000m above sea-level in the back of a dodgy old 4x4 toyota with 3 germans and a couple of Bolivian locals. It was great. Bolivia is really beautiful and would strongly reccomend this trip to everyone. You can start it from San Pedro in Chile or from Uyuni in Bolivia and there are heaps of differant companies that do it. check out these pici's (Pink flamingos are so cool!) [View Full Entry]

Well San pedro is a beautiful little town made out of mud way up in the north of Chile where the sun shines all the time . I've been here for four days now and I love it here but tomorrow I'm off to Bolivia. This place was set up just for tourism because right next to it is "Valle de la Luna" - Vally of the Moon, which is amazing, a salt lake with Flamingos and there's also a whole heap of great mountain-biking downhills for those hardout types. Pisco is the national drink here in Chile so this is like - really cool!
Well it turns out you can have an average time in South America sometimes, my last few days since I left Viņa del Mar have been much les then enjoyable, check this out.  I got to Vicuņa after a 8hr overnight busride from Viņa and it was cloudy. now usually that wouldn't bother me but half the reason I went there was for the World class Oservatory that's there which of course needs a clear night for a decent view of the the stars. so with the just about overhead-projector style slide show of our solar system and a two second [View Full Entry]
