Christmas lights - Medellin
this is the river throught he centre of Medellin, there are lights like this all around the city and they turned them all on for the first time on the 7th of Dec - big party.
Well that little side trip to Medellin turned out to be a 2week residency filled with great people and lots of dancing... my clases of salsa were excellent, so when they finished I took up a few more of Merengue and Porro which were just as cool if not cooler... I kept meeting great people and feeling very at home everywhere I went, I think Medellin is definately a place I will re-visit one day and would reccomend to anyone interested in travelling through Colombia. The only thing that helped me drag myself away, was the Carribean coast calling me for [View Full Entry]

there is fruit like this everywhere you go in Colombia, and is absolutely deliciuos so I'm usually walking around with a mango or a bunch of phat grapes in my hand
Well again nothing really amazing to report for over the last week, I've just been soaking up the festive atmosphere here in Medellin and enjoying the company of the very friendly locals. I was only going to stay for a couple of days but as always, have gotten a little bit comfotrtable, and just now I've stumbled across a humble little Salsa school out in a suburb called Floresta and so have signed up for a 4clase course so it looks like I'll probably be around here for a little while longer. What has stuck me the most so far about [View Full Entry]

Well I crossed over to Colombia just about a week ago and have spent the whole time so far just gourging myself on the exotic fruits and enjoying the thriving nightlive here in Cali, one of the biggest cities in Colombia. Colombian woman are very beautiful but I'm sad to say that I've seen more silicon over the last few days then I have throughout the rest of my sheltered life. Round here you can pick up a boob job for around $1500 and if you know someone you probably get it for under a grand, so it seems to be [View Full Entry]

The other side of the world

South America » Ecuador » North » Quito
I've been in and around Quito since I got back from the Galapagos Islands and it's been quite an interesting time... first of all I raced up to the equator to see how the water flushes on the other side of the world and sure as eggs, it does infact go the other way!!!!!! I couldn't believe it, they've got this little sink right, and when they pull the plug over the equator the water goes straight down, they move the same sink 2m to the south and it falls with the clockwise swirl that I grew up with out in [View Full Entry]

This diary is dedicated to all my fellow animal lovers and tree-huggers out there, I've just spent almost the last two weeks admiring Gods handywork out in the Galapagos Islands... that place is amazing! Snorkling with the friendliest most playfull sealions just about everyday, with the ocasional tortoise, shark, pinguin or manta-ray glyding past for a look, then exploring endless islands with differant colored beaches, cactuses, volcanoes loaded up with wierd birds and Iguanas - and eating fresh seafood for pretty much every meal... I had a fantastic time, and as per usual I was blessed with [View Full Entry]

Well I've been in Ecuador just on a week now and the sun has come out to play just 2 of those days which is apparently a lot for this time of the year - so we took it while we could get it out at at Montañitas which is a fantastic little surf town on the coast. Then sadly Christian was enjoying the party scene there too much so he decided to stay another week, where as I'm am now back in Guayaquil waiting for my flight for the Galapagos Islands tomorrow morning!!!!! I can't wait, but I'm going to [View Full Entry]

Yeh I'm starting to get a bit of colour back into my skin now after a week bumming around on various beaches on the Pacific coast in the North of Peru. The surf hasn't been anything worth renting a board for but it's definately been nice to be swimming in waves and salt water again thats for sure! I also re-discovered the joy of reading which is exciting for me, I picked out the smallest book there was in the book exchange back in Huaras(90pages long) which just happened to be a John Stienbeck classic so I finished it in my [View Full Entry]

on the way up to Laguna Churup I passed about 100 donkeys and cows carrying alsorts of things. and how sweet does that little kid have it huh? cheers mum
Well I planned on doing this 3day circut trek up in the mountains behind Huaras, but when I arrived at Laguna Churup at the end of day 1 I liked it so much that I decided to just kick it there for a couple of days and then go back to Huaras. And I had the whole place to myself apart from about 5 other trekkers per day that came up for a look, and a stray dog I called Henry who made sure that not one scrap of my sloppy food went to waste. He was a very hungry and [View Full Entry]

This is like the ritzy part of Lima, it's the beach section of Miraflores where all the rich people hang out.
Well Lima was nice, a bit expensive but really quite a cool city. I was planning on doing a bit of Para-sailing and swimming at the beach while I was here but the weather has been a bit cold so that'll have to wait untill I'm a bit closer to the equator. Meanwhile I'm off up to Huaras tonight and plan on draging out my tent for a couple of days camping - but apparantly it's been snowing up there in the national park over the last couple of days so we'll see about that too. Hope everyones good back home, [View Full Entry]

The great Nazca lines

South America » Peru » Ica » Nazca » Nazca Lines
Woziz! this morning I was in this little town called Nazca where there are these amazing lines out in the desert around the town that are over 2000yrs old and no-one really knows how they got there. Some of them make up shapes of animals but you can only see them from the sky, so although they are pretty sure that it was the old Nazca race of people that made them, there are also a few theories about some sort of alien influence. I couldn't make my mind up, but I do know that they are absolutely amazing and definately [View Full Entry]
