The produce isle
The produce isle
at the market in Antigua
almost two months since the last blog...so we have definitely slacked off, but then again living in antigua has caused us to settle a little more than planned, which is why i am happy to say that lindsie and i are leaving by the end of september....woohoo. until then we have to buckle down and work as much as the bar can have us...but enough of that... the time here goes quickly some days, and others we feel like we have been here for an interminable amount of time. the town is still beautiful, we have started to run out of [View Full Entry]

Aguacates

so we've been here for a few weeks now...it's a fun town and the area is extremely beautiful. we are surrounded by three volcanoes and lots of farmland (much of the food from the market is local). we ran low on money so we picked up jobs bartending at one of the only irish taverns in central america...the illustrious reilly's. we pull in an absolutely astounding 7 quetzales an hour (just shy of one dollar)...but it's tips that ice the cake (okay, so there is not too much icing, but we have been able to save a few bucks). other than [View Full Entry]

so really the best part of this entry is the photos...four different people taking hundreds of photos...we tried to choose a nice little bouquet for all ya'll. so lindsie was able to give a quick overview of our time up till flores...here's my two cents on top of that.... ...cenotes are amazing (they are sinkholes that have filled with water and created underwater caves with stalactites and unique fish) ...we have been sitting on our butts for too long (a day of swimming, biking and hiking really tuckered us out) ...dirt roads with the loads that we are carrying are really [View Full Entry]

in antigua, guatemala. it has been a while, but lindsie and i are doing well and going to try and catch everyone up on the past month or so (and more importantly post some photos). this little post covers the time from oaxaca, mexico up till we met with arin and kelli in akumal, mexico. basically we drove a lot in order to make it to a & k on time...from oaxaca we had an amazing drive to hierva del agua, a set of petrified waterfalls that the mayans considered a sacred site. the next day we entered the volatile state [View Full Entry]

Well sorry its been so long since the last blog.....but its hard to keep up with when you get to a town and want to see everything....and not spend time on the computer (which also costs money). We have met up with two friends from Bellingham, and have been to two more countries since the last time we posted. The drive out of Oxaca was amazing and I couldnt stop turing my head towards the wonderful view of cacti forests (much different than Baja), rivers, mountains and the amazing sunset behind me...in fact there were a couple times I think I [View Full Entry]

short entry, lots of photos...so much has happened in two weeks, basically some (more) beautiful drives, i broke down in lazero cardenas...but it ended up being awesome...a guy i asked for jumper cables ended up taking lindsie and i into his home and giving us amazing food and a bed for three nights...all while helping me troubleshoot and work out the bike (with some phone assistance from ncs, thanks mike)...jeronimo and martha were awesome and made us feel very at home, i even went and worked in the fields with him for a morning. the bike was worked out (for those [View Full Entry]

and that is an understatement. we are spending the evening in the touristy (yet large and with the potential to find a place that has a longer clutch cable for lindsie´s bike so that we can put different handlebars on it and allow her riding to be that much more comfortable) puerto vallarta. that of course is on mainland mexico...some might refer to it as ´real´mexico. to get here we had to cross the sea of cortez on a ferry... perhaps one of the more miserable 17 hour periods of my life. we both succeeded in getting food poisoning...my realization came [View Full Entry]

but not so much as this cacti...there are thousands of acres of these guys...
we are currently sitting in a little cafe in La Paz, sipping Pacificos and listening to late funky mexican pop music. life has been particularly sunny the past few days, a beautiful drive through the desert from el rosario to guerro negro...so many cacti...just everywhere. i´ve spent time in deserts before, but never deserts with so much in them. highway 1 crosses back and forth across the baja, and our first experience with the sea of cortez was in the tiny town of mulege. a beautiful town that hasn´t become as touristy as many of the others in baja...it has an [View Full Entry]

to the land of the cacti...i feel a song or something there, hmmm...well, we are officially in mexico (as of 3 days ago) and thoroughly immersed in a language we don't really know. however, we are getting by pretty well. tonight we are camping for free at mama espinoza's in el rosario. but before mexico, there are a couple of other things to recount.... for those with a dream of driving through los angeles on an overladen, early 80s motorcycle...enjoy. the 80 mph weaving crazy drivers are not the fodder of fairy tales like your parents told you. san diego was [View Full Entry]

hey all!! well we haven't gotten too far south since our last blog, due to various bumps we hit in the past couple days. the first being I had one of the most mierable hang over's in my life at this place called Fernwood tucked in the beautiful redwoods of Big Spur, CA. This little incedent delayed our travels for a good day as I was not comfortable to jump on a motorcycle considering the state I was in. It was an expensive campground but we met a nice friendly family from San Fran that gave Nathan a beer, offered us [View Full Entry]
