Europe » Greece May 28th 2008

Well, we are reaching our last days here in Greece and to be honest, we are both a little homesick. We are having a blast here, but we both think it's time to go home. Time to catch you up on what we've been doing. After Paros and Naxos we went to Santorini- which was awesome. The place we were staying had a pool, so when we got there in the evening we decided to take a dip before bed. All the Greeks thought we were crazy because the water was cold, but we are Canadians so it didn't phase us! When we arrived at Villa Manos (the place we stayed) they offered us homemade wine... well I should say they 'made' us drink it. It was actually pretty good, I think it was wine mixed ... read more

Hi Everyone! It's been a while... we keep passing by internet cafes, but the beach is so much more inviting...:P We have been pretty busy in the last few days. Last we wrote, we were enjoying Olympia- the next day was our big travel day to make it across the Peloponnese on our way to the rest of the islands. That was a looooong day, but it was definitely worth it. We woke up bright and early and made our way to the train station, which had a sign saying it opened at 7:30am. Well... according to the Greeks that means 8:00, which was also the time that the first train left. We had to rush to get on the train, but we made it just in time. We had a pretty nerve-wracking trip because nobody ... read more

Time sure flies.... We are already in Olympia, and there is lots to catch up on. We didn't have any internet access in Zakynthos. Lets start from the beginning. The night ferry from Corfu to Patras was a lot nicer than our first night ferry! It was much bigger and there were even escalators on it. We had a decent sleep but it was pretty chilly. We had to put on lots of layers, and Jess is just getting over a cold so there was a lot of sneezing etc. (I am almost 100% better..) We arrived in Patras really really early, 5:00am. It was still pretty dark and we had to walk around the entire port to find the exit because everything was fenced in. Finally we got out and we roamed the streets for ... read more

Europe » Greece May 11th 2008

Well, it's our last day in Corfu and we are sad to leave... Bella Vista, the place where we are staying, was totally awesome. The people were so friendly and the beach was incredible, not to mention the great tasting food!! We spent yesterday exploring the northern part of Corfu in a place called Sidari. It has a very special location called the Canal d'Amour, which is a really cool rock formation that has eroded away from the tide. We took lots of pictures so you will be able to see it soon. We are just killing time before we catch our next ferry, maybe we will have time to upload pictures later. Anyways, we really like the canal, but the rest of Sidari beach was a dump compared to the beach we have been enjoying ... read more

Europe » Greece May 9th 2008

Hi Everyone! It's been a while, we've been busy traveling to our next destination. Early the morning of the 7th we caught a train from Rome to Bari, it took about 6 hours. The Italian countryside was absolutely beautiful, lots of mountains and orchards. Oma would have loved all the colorful flowers we saw. After the train we caught a bus to the port in Bari so that we could catch our ferry. Along the way we met an Italian guy named Bruno... he was pretty interesting to say the least. He was 60 years old and had a brain operation at the age of 28 so he no longer had short term memory. Nevertheless, he was filled with interesting stories and philosophies about life. He had just returned from spending several months in India, a ... read more

Europe » Italy May 6th 2008

So... it's our last day in Rome and we are definitely sad to be leaving, but still looking forward to exploring Greece! We didn't update the blog yesterday, but there really wasn't much to say... We headed out for the Vatican at about 10:00am with a New Zealander from our hostel who showed us the ropes on the Metro. However, when we got to the Vatican we realized that we should have gotten there much much earlier. The line up went literally around half the city wall, it was insane!!! We stood in line for an hour and a half in the hot hot sun and finally Jess couldn't handle it anymore and we threw in the towel. It all worked out for the best though, because yesterday was rainy and dreary all day once we ... read more

Europe » Italy May 4th 2008

Last night we decided it was about time that we figured out how we are getting to our next destination! We booked a ferry from Bari to Corfu online, but had to go to the train station this morning to book a train from Rome to Bari. We got everything sorted out, and we will be leaving Rome on Wednesday morning to journey to Corfu! We got a night ferry, which is good because we didn't have anywhere to stay on the 7th! After we got our transportation in order we headed to the National Museum, actually there are about four national museums, we just went to one. It wasn't half as cool as the Capitoline Museum that we visited later, but we got some funny pictures! After this museum we ventured to Villa Borghese where ... read more

It;s 930am Sunday morning and we are just about to go out, thought we would write a little something first. So yesterday we had a pretty jam packed day. We started out having breakfast at a local pastry shop. Sean got a gigantic donut (of course( and I had a croissant with crema! So tasty. Then we headed down to the Colosseum to try our luck in the really long line ups, and they WERE long. We gave up on the Colosseum and moved on to the Roman Forum, BIG MISTAKE. We waited in line in the hot hot sun for about 2 hours. Anyways, we finally made it and got a pass for the Forum, Palatine Hill, and the Colosseum. The Forum was incredible! So much history in one place, we will post some pictures ... read more

Europe » Italy May 2nd 2008

It's about 7:30 am right now, and I couldn't sleep so I made Sean get up. Thought we would add a few more details before we headed out today. We went out last night at about 8:30pm and just sort of wandered around. We grabbed some gelato *woooo*, Jess had coconut and Sean had strawberry. SOOOO GOOD. It was kind of confusing to order though, because everything here is in Italian. Then we walked down a couple main streets, where we soon realized that Rome possibly has the worlds worst driving record. Sean was in heaven though, because almost everyone here drives a scooter or a really sweet compact. We decided to head down to see the Colosseum at night, since it was the closest thing to our hostel, and it was awesome. They light it ... read more
