Funny faceJust before waiting in line for the Roman Forum
Last night we decided it was about time that we figured out how we are getting to our next destination! We booked a ferry from Bari to Corfu online, but had to go to the train station this morning to book a train from Rome to Bari. We got everything sorted out, and we will be leaving Rome on Wednesday morning to journey to Corfu! We got a night ferry, which is good because we didn't have anywhere to stay on the 7th!
After we got our transportation in order we headed to the National Museum, actually there are about four national museums, we just went to one. It wasn't half as cool as the Capitoline Museum that we visited later, but we got some funny pictures! After this museum we ventured to Villa Borghese where we HOPED to check out the Galleria. But no... we were denied. They were all sold out until Wednesday when we leave! So no David for us... But we weren't sad for long. The park outside of the villa was absolutely gorgeous, filled with people picnicking and riding bikes. Very beautiful!
We decided to go to the Spanish Steps on our way to
the next museum, to get a better look. Still as crowded as ever, but definitely a sight to see! After the Steps we moved on to Capitoline Hill to check out the museum. This was definitely the best museum we visited!! This place is filled with some of the most well-known ancient sculptures and some beautiful paintings as well. And get this, I ended up seeing one of my professors there... the scary one... haha. We avoided one another mutually I think.
But anyways, this museum was incredible. Every single room had the most ornate ceilings that we have ever seen, and the sculptures were better preserved than the first museum. Everything was so beautiful! From the top of Capitoline Hill we also had the greatest view of the Roman Forum, probably one of my favorite places in Rome! We decided to head back to the hostel for a bit after this to rest our feet and change for the evening.
We went to another little restaurant for dinner, I had some wierd spaghetti with chili, bacon, and cheese. Sean had spaghetti and meat sauce! Pretty tasty, but we both agree that Italian food is not what we
had expected. Its very pricey, and you don't get much. But it is tasty nonetheless. Unfortunately we were seated next to a rather bitter British dude, who almost ruined our dinner. He asked us why we would want to visit Rome and Greece, and told us that both places were dirty and ugly and not worth seeing. According to him the only places in Europe worth visiting are Paris and London. He was kind of obnoxious and obviously lonely so we eventually managed to brush him off. Some people just don't appreciate things!
But we love Rome! After dinner we grabbed yet another gelato and headed back to the hostel. My legs have taken quite a beating with all the walking that we have been doing, so we decided to take it easy this evening so that we would be fully energized for tomorrow's hike to the Vatican!! We are both super pumped and have charged the batteries in our cameras because we plan on taking tons of pictures! Already we've taken about 800... and we've only been here for three days!!
Well, that's all for now. Hope you enjoy the pictures we are posting.
Wish you
all could be here to enjoy the sights
