Short memory
Jenny you've asked me to remember names of various bars and streets. My memory has already faded- or was I too busy enjoying the martinis to notice?! I think Pamela actually reduced herself to saying 'right right right'... I already miss her!

My calves still remember that hill!!! I never have, yet, been to Salt Spring Island, although I have friends with a house there, but Vancouver Island holds a huge place in my heart. Uncle Brian and I were going to move there (just outside Victoria) after we were married but then he was offered a job back home in England. It really is such a beautiful place. We really loved the couple of days we spent there last September - such memories! Enjoy for all you're worth! xoxoxo

Saltspring Island
Hello you two! Hope you are having a wonderful time. Just let the magic of the island seep in. I'm never sure if Saltspring or Gabriola is my favourite island. Thinking of you both all the time and all the wonderful chats you must be having, catching up on news, and getting to know each other as adults. All is well here, not much sun this week, but at least it's not as dreadfully humid as it was last week. Will call on Sunday, during your morning. Lots of love from both of us.

Wow!
It sounds and looks as if you are having a terrific time and I am SO jealous! I've never been to California but it is right up at the top of the list now. I don't think you'll ever want to come home! Carry on enjoying yourself and keep writing the blog so we can enjoy it too!

You have a wonderful way with words, Jen. You're really bringing this whole trip to life for those of us 'left behind'. It hardly seems possible that you've been galivanting for a month already. Such sights you have seen. It's such fun following along in your wake, as it were. Keep the missives - and the photos - coming! xoxoxo

Alex driving Jenny crazy - or the other way round?
Anna, I have to say that letting Alex drive Betty Boy felt like I was giving her my newborn child to look after. She's an excellent (and stylish!) driver, so it was fine but I was a terrible passenger!
7th July 2009

photos are great!
Thanks for adding the photos, they are great and worth the (impatient) wait! I am impressed you are letting Alex drive your beloved Betty Boy but she looks very stylish behind the wheel ;)

Thanks for that flattering 'boob' shot of me in Vegas! I thought we agreed not to put that on;-)

Mirror, signal, manoeuvre
And I would like to see a photo of YOU driving, please Jenny! This Saturday the local pub in Seer Green is celebrating Independence Day and it is already booked up - how come we're not so patriotic when it comes to St George's Day!? Anyhow, when we are eating our ribs and burgers, shovelling down popcorn and knocking back the Bud, we will be thinking of you... x

Apologies
Sorry everyone for the delay in getting the posts to you - definitely a glitch with the programme. My neighbour Doug thought I might have been kidnapped, and was kind enough to offer to pay the ransom. Fortunately it didn't come to that! Anna, you are looking forward to photos. Well, as you may have noticed, the Grand Canyon was missing from the Vegas blog. We never got there :( - it's just too far. My mistake. As for Yosemite, well, we only managed to drive through the park. My decision - figured I would rather drive straight through this time and give myself an excuse to go back another time for longer and do some proper exploring. What I did see was amazing. Mel, I did drink vodka, but no roofies, floories or stag dos, so maybe that's why we didn't get into any trouble. Still, would have liked to wake up with a chicken in the hotel room. Right, must be on my way.

and the road trip is about to continue
One more week and I'm on a plane to San Francisco! By the sounds of it I guess I might not need to pack my fleece that I am constantly cuddled up in right now! Say hi to yogi from me. See you soon...

Really!?
This explains why I hadn't heard from you in ages. I thought you were both too drunk to email. Nonsense I have been three times to LV and nothing like any of those things have ever happened. I think the movie is more a warning of why you must never take Ruffies ("roofies" not "floories") whilst drinking vodka on a stag do. And Diane Kruger!!! Oh my god. She is gordeous. And speaks fluent german and french. And Nobu??? Edward thinks you are seriously living it up. Nobu is one of the most over priced restaurant in any country. But I agree the chocolate spring roles and blackened cod are amazing... And clearly it is the best place for celebrity spotting, after all didn't Becker have that unfortunate incident in a cupboard at the London Nobu? As for Jigsaw...? Jigsaw? Honestly, of all the stores to visit in the States, even with Hersey's. Bath and Body Works, Bed, Bath and Beyond....

Website problems
Ah, so you're not getting notification e-mails? Would explain why so fwe people have read the last two entries. I think there has been a problem with the site - serious problems putting on photos. Will rectify asap. E-mail is the same as always, jennyinthe.....No skype as yet. Have webcam though so will get on with that too! So much to do!!!!
1st July 2009

enjoying your blog
but we've apparently stopped getting e-mails to tell us you've updated it. This means that your even more elderly aunty just can't keep up... BTW you've not yet given us either your e-mail or skype..

photos soon please!
Can't wait to see the pics, hope the technical issue is resolved soon! (sorry, i'm a bit impatient!) Especially can't wait to see Yosemite pics, have always wanted to go hiking there. Assume you're not climbing El Capitan on your way through?! (Wouldn't put it past the two of you!) Hope Betty Boy is looking after you both well, hope the handbrake is a bit more user-friendly than the hire car for the 'Jenuary' weekend!! Sounds like you're having a fantastic time, can't wait for the next installment xx

I would think that most people from our side of the Pond think only of sand, sea and sunshine when they think of California, but just a few miles inland (certainly south and east of LA - the only part I've really seen) leaves a lot to be desired on the scenic side. Your trip through Death Valley sounds very similar to ours through Josuha Tree and the Mojave desert last year - breath-takingly hot and barren, barren, barren! Sounds like you're having the best possible time. Keep it up! Quite like the sound of fish tacos.

Great Bolg! (ooops.. the dylexia's no better.)
Dear Jenny, Thanks so much for the links to your blog. Great reading! And such a good way to keep in touch. Pleased to see you both enjoying the West Coast. Send our love to Alex. Hope Las Vegas lives up to expectation. Best wishes, Ray

Santa Barbara
Wonderful account! You make me homesick for California - even though I've never lived there! Have you been to San Francisco yet? - did I miss that bit? (The only part of California I've visited.) Maybe on my next trip I'll hire a car and drive south!

Welcome Alex
Hi Alex. Glad you arrived safely - an upgrade because your headphones don't work!!! Can hardly believe it. It's nice to know that my little niece, Jen, now has someone mature (love the photo on the rings!) to look out for her at least for a while as she jaunts around that big country! Have fun and don't get too lost.

Howdy
hi there you two, so nice to read your brilliant blog, and yet so envious... never said thanks before for the invite to the lovely bbq at your place Jenny, so thanks! better late than never. i see you are enjoying yourselves in LA. i went to Santa Monica about 10 years ago, visiting venice beach and malibu, etc. so its making me reminisce to read all your annecdotes. i remember rather a lot of freaks prominading around but also some very nice eye candy to compensate, so you wont get bored whilst sipping your beers beach-side topping up your tans! drive safe in betty-boy and have loads of fun. gxxx

Not sure if my first message actually registered. Something seemed to go wrong. Will try again! This really is a wonderfully descriptive account. You bring it all so much to life. We had planned a short visit to Oceanside when we were staying in Temecula last year but the unexpected detour up Mount Palomar to the observatory took too much time and we hit Oceanside in rush hour!! Straight back up the road to Temecula! Hope your back is feeling better now. What better therapy than to spend a few days sunbathing on a California beach!! Continue to enjoy - we're loving ready all about your exploits. xoxo

room for me!
Of course my sweet there will be room for you. I have established nada, rien, nichts just yet. We can always get a roofrack! Not that I need an excuse to visit you down under again, but surfing lessons with Mr Flatmate could convince me!

room for me?
Is there going to be any room for my pack and tent in the back of Betty Boy? Have you established the dashboard garden yet? We have a surf board in the kitchen now, a proper surfing household! You'll have to come back to visit so he can teach you how to surf!
