Beautiful Montana Sweetheart, you have convinced me good and proper! Those photos bring tears to my eyes - as does your 'encounter' with you Mum. What a truly awesome (in the very best possible sense of the word) experience you are having - even if it sounds as though you are travelling around half the world with all the different place names you'vce encountered so far! This is probably the best posting to date and I'm sure will be very hard to beat. Keep them coming!!!
Montana As you say, there aren't enough adjectives to describe it. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. The photos are wonderful, and it's good to see you looking so happy. We thought about you on the 20th - you weren't alone! If this is what Montana is like, why are we all not living there?! As you've probably heard, we are having an English summer - rain with the occasional sunny spell. We're really looking forward to hearing about Yellowstone and the long tail-backs of the cars, camper vans and trailers trying to get into the park. Do take the advice of the rangers seriously. In the Canadian Rockies, people wear bells about the size of golf balls on their belts or back packs to warn the bears of their coming. lots of love.
MIP Thanks for doing the research! Who knew MIP could stand for so many things?! And that consortia may exist to discuss them. Have a great holiday, Mel.
Birthday drinks I've been told it's Friday afternoon and I've been having a few drinks to celebrate. On reading your message I have decided that one of the drinks I had was to celebrate your birthday! Next year I promise to be in London and sociable to enjoy the happy event! I shall put forward your 'Simon' suggestion to Nicole. I think she'll like it!
Sporks! I love sporks! They are one of the best camping inventions ever! In fact I am the proud owner of a selection of sporks! Have you given your spork a name? If not, might I suggest 'Simon'!
As for your other 'challenges' - I've come up with Moustache Implantation Pack or Minimal Intelligence Permit, not very good but I haven't thought long and hard about it (honest!)
But I am struggling about UK road names - a lot of southern towns have a London Road but I guess that changes to Manchester Road etc as you go north?
Anyway, enough of me wittering on! I'm off to my birthday drinks in a few minutes so I shall have a drink on your behalf in your absence... Enjoy the next stage of your trip xx
MIP MIP usually stands for Minor in Possession (of alcohol). A misdemeanor offense that in some states results in ones parents receiving an angry letter from the local prosecutor demanding a court appearance. :)
MIP Managing Intellectual Property
Macrophage Inflammatory Protein
Marketing Intelligence and Planning
Metals in Paper
Multilateral Interoperability Programme
Multum in parvo
Malaria in Pregnancy (there is a Consortium for this)
The list is endless but in your case it means "Minor In Possession" as in possession of alcohol.
common street names 'London Road' and 'High Street' spring to mind - just about as imaginative as over there. Beautiful looking campsite and it looks as though you have the weather for it. You wouldn't be doing that back home right now - not unless you were trying out camping under water. Enjoy Idaho and all those potatoes - am looking forward to Montana. Uncle Brian and I have both always had a yen to visit there. See if you can convince us it's worthwhile! xoxoxo
Naming Anthropomorphism... easy for you to say! I am all in favour of it - as you know, Jennifer! How about SB as a non-gender specific 'name' for your sleeping bag?? Keep up the fabulously interesting blogs and great photos, I learn such a lot from them. xx
I love your account of the conversation with the border guard, although I got some strange looks from my colleagues for chuckling aloud at my desk!! Hope you have a lovely time catching up with the rellys and I can't wait for the next installment. Take care xx
border troubles hey J! this is my first blog post to you! sorry I have been on holiday and then no time on email before that because my computer broke for around 3-4 weeks! You sound like you are having a ball!
Your border controls sound familiar - I had similar problems getting back to UK on a ferry recently. In fact, the border guard asked me more questions about why I was visiting than my russian travelling partner - I guess they thought I had an illegal UK passport or something - like human trafficking....I suppose their concerns were justified as I hesitated when they asked me which country I permanently live in - still do not feel like a full resident of Belgium and probably won't until I ever decide to buy property here!
happy miles clocking for your ongoing travels! :-) keep up the updates!
Vancouver, Alcatraz and crab cakes Not Vancouver, Canada, but Vancouver, WA, which is the neighbouring city to Portland. Yes, it is confusing. No to Alcatraz because we couldn't get tickets. We really wanted to but bar swimming across or chartering our own boat, it wasn't going to happen. I'm not a huge fan of crab cakes. Rode in a cable car; went across the bridge by bike. No to Ripley's Believe It or Not.
You didn't go to Alcatraz??? One of the only things to see in The City and you didn't go? Did you go to the sea musuem? on the waterfront, with the real life wales in a huge tank. Like SeaWorld only better. Or did you go see Ripley's Believe It or Not? Best one in the States. Did you ride on a cable car? Did you cross the bridge by foot? Did you eat some crab cakes?? After all, the Bay has the best crabs apparently.
Vancouver? You drove through Vancouver, in Canada, to get to Portland? I am so confused. I spent 4th July in Llandudno, Wales, where I ate cream teas on Anglesey. Not quite as exciting. I wish I was visiting the states with you.
heh there jenny in the world............... i cant believe you didnt mention the Castro when you were in San Fran or are you keeping that to yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! enjoy and looking forward to next blog...........
miss you and take care

The Victorians If you go back to SF, I would definitely suggest going the tour we did. Despite the slightly strange guide, it was really interesting. I can give you details if you like! The next few weeks I will be driving around Montana and the Rockies - bit of a change from SF! It's going to be fun! Hope all is well in Bristol. j.
San Francisco Victorians Hi, Jenny, I have been to SF several times, and visited the Victorians but didn't kow about the three types. Maybe I should go on a tour (like you did.) Have NEVER tried driving there, think you're very brave to do so! What I like about SF is that it is a city one can easily walk around - or take public transport - so no need for a car; but of course if you are in the process of driving from one place to another and just stop off in SF as you did, it's a bit different.
Love Jackie
Short memory Okay, okay. Too many lemon drops on my behalf! I can't say I miss Pamela. She can be annoying when you know where you want to go and she tries to take you another route. 'Recalculating, recalculating, recalculating....'!
Hi, it's me. Jenny...in the world. I was jennyineesti when I lived in Estonia, and jennyinslovakia when I lived in Slovakia. Eventually figured I should keep changing countries, but not my e-mail address......
This time I'm off to the States. I have the American passport, and when needed my American accent is pretty convincing. But really, I know very little about my country of birth. Figured it was time to find out a bit and catch up with friends and family along the way.
